I Generally buy darker colored clothes (your muted point) and this was just 1/8th of my wardrobe so the combinations are different. I was just putting what I've got in the past couple months. Ya horizontal lines make you look wider but I think that rule only applies to people who are really overweight.
I would never take offense if someone said I dressed poorly or they didn't like my "style". The number one thing about wearing clothes is feeling good in them and having confidence.
2 Years ago I would never have worn a purple shirt. :D

You can get clothes for much cheaper than that, just don't buy American brands. Tarocash was a relatively high end store with very nice pants and shirts for reasonable prices. David Myer carries Australian brands that are affordable. All the shit is made in China anyway. lolwut?
Tarocash has the nickname "Tarobogan" here. terrible quality clothing that looks atrocious (and not cheap by any means). I wouldn't wear anything from them. Bright purple shirts, ridiculously tight trousers, shoes so pointy you can't bring them through airport security, I could go on. There's a reason why Aussies stock up on clothes when they go to the US. We don't even have H&M here.
"David Myer" is not a store. I'm guessing you're confused between the 2 different stores David Jones and Myer. Both are known for stocking good quality brands but aren't cheap at all. $160 for a Ralph Lauren or Lacoste polo.

Really liking this thread. I have a shawl collar sweater similar to this one, except brown-grey:
My question is what to wear underneath. The guy in the picture has a shirt but I think it looks a bit weird since the sweater collar is really big. But wearing a normal T underneath feels like a waste of a good sweater. Is the shirt ok? Do I just have weird tastes?

Sad to say but, tailor is your only option. Or, and I'm being serious here, shop at the kid's section.

Don't wear a button-up shirt under a shawl collar pull-over. Just wear a contrasting crew neck or v-neck instead. You want to wear one that stands out and doesn't make your outfit look boring. Nothing too bright, though. :p
Edit: Btw, love that look. I have a few shawl collars myself. Had a grey one, but left it at a soccer game and it got stolen.

I love clothes shopping when i'm in china, korea, japan because the clothes just fit so much better when you're asian.
It makes you realise how loose most clothes you buy in australia are

As mentioned in this post, the Levi 521 are an excellent jean for those of us with athletic thighs who still want a tapered leg opening. I would like to add: do not buy square toe shoes. They look horrible. Furthermore, brown is the new black. Avoid black unless you are suiting up for a very professional meeting, attending a black tie event, or going to a funeral. I just bought a pair of square toed black dress shoes to wear with my business clothes. I disagree with you. I think squared toe shoes look much more professional than round toe shoes. I will edit a pic into this post of the shoes.

Try Guess. They're fairly light so you can wear a sport jacket underneeath and they are cheaper than the ones u posted.

If you are going to get a peacoat, please get a Spiewak & Sons. There is no better war-time styled coat.
Anyone into cutting collars off? I've gotten super into it lately... I feel like a shirt/sweater can look 100x better with a cut collar. Jocked a cut-collar t-shirt today.
Cut this yesterday:

I don't think dress shoes can look "kid-ish". I have both round and square and when I first got the rounded ones they looked really goofy but that was because of how I looked at them from above. I kept thinking they were really long but people advised me they were good and I was just paranoid.
EDIT: All this dress shoe talk reminded me that my dog chewed up 4 pairs when he was acouple months old. God I miss those shoes.

Post a picture of a round toe shoe that looks "kid-ish." Square toe went out of style a while ago but stores still carry them because for some reason people still buy them. Read #1 on http://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/fghyi/a_newbies_shoe_primer/ to see why square toe is ugly.

Have to agree about square-toe not being any good. Brown + Round is the way to be.

Wow, I'm getting paranoid about my shoes now. Should I return them and try and go for a round toe shoe? I liked these shoes...but now that you guys are dissing them...I'm second guessing myself. What do you guys think of the pictures I posted of the square toe shoes? Are they nice or not?

The other day I was walking down West Broadway Vancouver and some cute Asian chick was checking me out, I was wearing a peacoat, dress pants, I had just get off work and it was around 7pm. It was a cold and dark Christmas night. She walked past me and eyed me and when she got to my shoes I could tell she didn't like what she saw. I got rid of the square toes and now I'm rocking the rounded kickers.

They're not terrible man, they just look a little chunky. If you're wearing some nice and fitted pants, those might protrude a little bit more than you'd want. If you're going square-toe you have to get something thin as hell (you don't want a rounded square or anything puffy). For dress shoes, thinner is better anyway IMO. I'm somewhat of a purist and say the less "frills" and over-designed crud, the better. Thin laces are also nice.

Edit: Alright, it's official. I'm gonna go exchange my shoes this week for round toe shoes. Damn, I really liked these shoes, but after reading what everyone said about square toe shoes, I guess they aren't a good look. When I was at the store trying on shoes, I avoided all the round toe shoes because I thought the square toe shoes looked better. Guess not.
