Those are closer to desert boots then oxfords. Yeah, I will never buy a shoe with a white sole unless its a running shoe or a shoe I am only going to wear to the gym. If you want something similar but IMO better check out clarks desert boots they are equally casual to the shoe you posted but nicer IMO. http://www.onlineshoes.com/mens-clarks-desert-boot-oakwood-suede-p_id171572. If you want a true brown oxford, which is what I would recommend check out JWD's blog XX. My personal favorite from there would have to be the Allen Edmond's http://www.zappos.com/allen-edmonds-fifth-avenue-walnut-calf BTW you can find both those shoes for less then the website I posted if you look around.

You'd be amazed at how much respect you can garner simply by dressing sharp. I never believed it until I did. A tailored suit with the correct accessories will help you out.

But is it really that important as a lawyer to wear expensive suits in America? I'm sure the average lawyer in the UK will just wear a reasonable suit, but never anything too expensive unless they are top of the range lawyers. What is it like with Americans, do they all wear expensive clothes and well manicured no matter how good they are, or is it just a TV thing?

What is it like with Americans, do they all wear expensive clothes and well manicured no matter how good they are, or is it just a TV thing? Some people where shit, and other people dress well. That goes everywhere. There is a distinction you have to make between expensive suits and tailored suits, however. Tailored suits don't have to be expensive (relatively), and still make you look very sharp, chic, and professional. Some websites like indochino.com even allow you to input your measurements, and it will tailor anything you buy on their site. In my opinion, it's much better to buy "mediocre" clothing that fits very well than to splash your money one the expensive shit that won't even look right on you.

There are many designers, especially more expensive ones though, that carry a special brand/line that are tailored for young people. One example would be HUGO (in red), that is a subbrand of Hugo Boss. They feature usually pretty slim fits. I like their shirts a lot. And it doesn't hurt that the material isn't shabby either. Other brands, just from my head would be Diesel (or Black Gold), Dior Homme/Kris van Assche, D&G, Emporio Armani. In contrast e.g., Prada shirts aren't as tight fitted, and thus might be more expensive, but the overall look might be more dull (for younger people). Also, every brand/designer cuts their prêt-à-porter clothing a little differently. So, depending on your personal build, go around and try out which kind of cut suits you the best. I always say that the silhouette of a look has to be sharp (hairstyle, jacket/shirt/tshirt, jeans/pants, shoes). After that, you can start minding the details.

What is it like with Americans, do they all wear expensive clothes and well manicured no matter how good they are, or is it just a TV thing? its not about expensive suits at all. it's more just about dressing in clothes that FIT (something that 95% of people don't understand, especially young people), wearing shit that looks nice (color matching etc..), or wearing things that fit the occasion -- just really basic stuff can sharpen your appearance and make a better impression on someone (no matter the industry). oh yeah and it's much easier to pick up girls. in response to the OP, the J.Crew one is probably much better quality than the Kenneth cole one, for $200, that isn't a bad price.

The thing with the allen edmonds is depending upon wear they will last 2-5 years, but then you can send them in and get them re-crafted and they come back looking basically brand new and will last another 2-5 years before getting them re-crafted again. I have had my pair for 4 years now. They have been re-crafted once I love them. If you really have only 100 range to spend. Just look around zappos or some other site and see what you like post it here and get some feedback. But all 100 dollar shoes are going to be lower quality and will be no good after a year. Two if you are lucky. Or you could try to ebay a pair of allen edmonds. If you are patient you may be able to snag a pair for 150ish.

The way I laid the clothes out are some ways I wear them. I can wear most of these with darker Jeans or Chinos for a night out or with dress pants to work. With sweaters I find you can mix and match and make your wardrobe look a lot bigger then it actually is. This was really to show people that they can buy clothes on a budget and still get some nice pieces. I purchased maybe 2-3 pieces a month and eventually you have a pretty stacked wardrobe and you can mix and match to your liking. NOTE: Layers are pretty awesome.

You can get clothes for much cheaper than that, just don't buy American brands. Tarocash was a relatively high end store with very nice pants and shirts for reasonable prices. David Myer carries Australian brands that are affordable. All the shit is made in China anyway.
