i generally wear dress shirts untucked when going out. i just bought a shirt online and it fits well in the chest/sleeves. around the hips is a little tight (though i think it looks normal just feels slightly tight) so the shirt tails (is that what they are even called? where the shirt ends on each side in the bottom front middle that form 90 degree angles) face away from each other at a small angle instead of being uniform/flat across. is this ok or does that look awful. couldnt find anything conclusive googling. i personally dont mind it but trying to avoid looking like a slob picture with similar angle for reference: + Show Spoiler + ![]()

First off: Is it actually a dress shirt or is it just an oxford shirt? If it's a dress shirt, you almost 100% of the time will be tucking it in (they are made to be tucked). The only time most don't tuck is if worn under a pullover (and only sometimes) Oxford's are shorter and are in many contexts, made to be worn untucked. Regarding the specifics of your question, typically you do not at all want to have the ends hanging out like that at a 90 degree angle. It's kind of a typical example of unclean/slightly sloppy appearance.. Edit: I'll add that if you are wearing a sportcoat/blazer/suitcoat you pretty much never (ever) want to be wearing an untucked dress shirt.

^ there are dress shirts that you can wear untucked, but they're generally a lot more casual. By casual, I mean the fabric isn't as "nice", take a look at this: http://propercloth.com/reference/dress-shirt-fabrics/ You can see that the smoother fabrics are more formal, and the rougher ones are more casual. Generally more formal fabrics are meant to be worn with suits (or at least semi-formal), which requires tucking. Those shirts will have longer tails so that they stay down. In contrast, more casual fabrics (oxford cloth, flannels, etc) are meant to be worn untucked. So, the tail falling like it does in the picture isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some people use that V at the bottom (where the shirt is longer than the buttons) actively. The important thing is that the shirt's length isn't so long that it flares out, or goes below the rise of your pants (the bottom of the crotch). It'd help to post a picture of you + your shirt though

when you stand up straight in it (w/o holding the camera up), where is the bottom hem of the shirt? is it below your jeans crotch, or just above? (basically how much of the fly is visible). if below, its too long (and you can consider tucking it). if just below the button (doesn't seem like it), don't tuck. if in between, it could go either way

It's probably amoral but I go to the store just to people watch. Yankee Candles, Dad Jeans and $30 zip sweaters make me happy in some way. The most pressing part about going to stores versus online is the fact of cute cashiers which permeate the upper-middle class world we live in. I'm done. And I got some palewave stuff + black skinny jeans so it was okay seriously cute asian cashiers make vanilla ice cream melt, even in december
