Personally, I use a mixture of the two, generally Imperial for human measurements (height, weight, etc.) and distances, with metric for most everything else.

The reason being that you think US is the center of the world? Why else would it be "standard".

Decibel is not a measurement in itself but rather the measurement of the relation of two values. A decibel value without a reference is useless. And then there is the whole mess with field and energy related decibel values (any engineer will know what I mean)...

Some people prefer lbs instead of kg, because lifting 225 lbs is a higher number than 100 kg. But 10 inches instead of 25.4 cm? 25.4 > 10.

This is because the "Standard System" is the only place to "technically appropriate" use fractions. Wait what!? Saying half a meter is the same saying 0.5m. Since I study as an engineer and work part time as a trainee I think I know whether or not that is correct. Trust me, it is. And why wouldn't it be? Per definition 0.5m=50cm (So you can use fractions very conveniently, If you insist on that) No one in the world would argue about that. However you would not write "half a meter" in a written document, but "0.5m" is sort of fine. Depending on what exact item you talk about 50cm or 500mm is better. (Since somewhat more accurate but mostly because people got used to that) For example you could write "50cm of pipe from X to Y insolated with 0.3cm of blabla" And as for shoping, I get y 0.33l Can of Soda, a 0.5l bottle of beer and a liter bottle of Water. I cannot see a single advantage of the American systems of measurement. - German - Metric fo' life!

As with most things, only time will work its magic in this case I think.

In countries where you use metric you don't find 400ml bottles. Instead you find 0.5litres, 1 litre, 2 litres etc which is very convenient.

You must be one of these morons that, even on TL, use "the nation" in reference to the general public.
