I live about 10 minutes from the beach and go just about every weekend, yet amazingly ive never bothered to take up surfing. The waves just suck too much on the east coast as mentioned. I see the surfers there just sitting on their boards for upwards of 15-20 minutes at a time waiting for that 1 wave that actually has some potential... and even then they all just fizzle out.

I was going to start another thread until I saw this one. Anyways, this whole week I'll be out there pounding those waves with my http://www.rustysurf.com/website/surfboards-boards-highperformance/dozer/. Anybody else getting ready for these nice swells? added a video for more awesomeness.

I use a Santa Cruise board, pretty old, about 7", and a long board somewhere around 8 1/2 feet, can't remember the maker. I've become rather timid due to a near drowning incident, but I still love the sport very much and get out whenever I can to enjoy the 3-4 footers. That's funny about the wetsuit thing, OP: in OR you can't stay in the water for more than like 5 minutes without a wetsuit. Most of us have gloves, booties, and a hood as well as a full-body suit. So I don't want to hear it! Lol.

I'm typing this from the beach as we speak. It's pretty damn nice, love seeing waves like this when a hurricane is passing by. Sittin' on the beach during a hurricane like its 1979. You should get out there ![]()

![]() Never seen a beach on this earth, save for in the Yucatan, that matched the beaches I live literally 3 minutes away from though. Southern Orange County's beaches are stunning edit: come to think of it, Costa Rica's beaches are awesome too

But head high waves here where I live are always welcome, no matter the conditions. the wind at the moment is at 31mph for me... and there still people out here surfing this shit up. I'm in Miami Beach btw. We really don't care, it's super choppy but we have too because these are our only chances.

When you have to live with 4 foot waves every day even 30mph winds and rip tides don't look so bad anymore.

In UK you need a wetsuit to go in the water in summer... Surfing is brilliant fun though, I've only been a handful of times but I loved it. My main hobby is BMX, somehow, someway this made it really easy to pick up surfing.
