"I don't even know how to turn my computer on, but piracy is bad. I don't believe these computer experts. This bill will stop piracy for sure." "Mr Chairman, what did you vote?" 'I voted no.' "oh okay I also vote no." "I propose an amendment that will require a court order before shutting down any sites." 'no. that takes too long.' "I propose an amendment that will require companies to make sure a site has infringing material before filing a takedown." 'no. that will prevent people from getting rogue sites taken down.' "I have some letters from the people who invented all the modern internet protocols, including DNS. They claim that we can't actually do what the bill says, and it would also break DNSSEC." What's the rush?" 'Hahaha we do not need to know how it works. It's almost Christmas. Let's vote no on all the good amendmends and get home.' "I propose the best amendment ever." 'sorry, the MPAA paid me so much money I can only vote no.' - wait, this amendment proposed is unconstitutional and allows censorship. The chairman also voted yes. I vote yes also.'

This might be a good thing.... if some of the reasonable amendments are passed then the bill will seem more resonable and may completely pass instead of being completely shut down. That being said... ya I watched this "markup" and I can't imagine a thinking person not realize that the chairman IS FOR SURE paid off and everyone voting no on all the amendments that actually make any sense at all don't know anything and are just following the chairman making the whole law making process a complete joke... if you don't know wtf the amendment even says don't vote "no", don't vote "aye", DONT VOTE .... there is a reason democracy doesn't work in extremely uneducated and impoverished countries and this congress is showing us why.

Look at the list of companies in the US who do and do not support this bill and support them accordingly. Even if you aren't in the US, there are companies who you patronize by visiting their website or making use of their services. If they lose money because they are supporting this bill, it doesn't matter if that lost revenue comes from inside or outside of the country. Money is money and you can still hurt them.

I don't care even if they SAY they don't support it... a company so out of tune with technology does not deserve business. Please, take your domains elsewhere. Every major SC2 site is switching... Isn't it a bit ironic for a StarCraft site to be so mad at GoDaddy and want to boycott them when they're actively in support of a company that also supports the same bill? It's just like my friend who has been talking about how much he hates SOPA and how he moved two of his domains from GoDaddy yet he just bought TOR even though EA supports SOPA. I don't understand what boycotting GoDaddy and not boycotting other companies that support the same bill is going to accomplish other than causing GoDaddy to lose business. For the record, I don't like SOPA. I'm fine with boycotting companies that support the bill. But I don't understand the logic behind boycotting one company that supports it while actively supporting other companies that support it. edit: I am mistaken, Activision doesn't support nor do they oppose the bill however EA does support it.

Day9 + Sundance/MLG have already stated they're switching off GoDaddy. I'm in an odd position because of my attempts to stick to my word. I've had qualms with them for years. I think their ad campaigns are horrible, their UI is really clunky, and they have already squelched free speech in the past (ratemycop incident). However, their support of SOPA was the final straw. So I sent them an email outlining this, and how their support of such a horrible bill is just too much. I know that email won't be read. It might be noted when doing a count of how many emails they got complaining about SOPA, but I'm under no delusion that the CEO personally read my email and expects me to honor what I said. But I know what I said and I want to stick to it. And so I said I'll leave if they support SOPA. They withdrew their support. I was kinda using this as an excuse to bail anyway, but what kind of person would I be if I say they must renounce SOPA or lose my business, they renounce SOPA and I still leave? That makes my threats meaningless. So the stance I'm in now is I'll give them one week to actively go against SOPA in some meaningful way. A press release and a stance change is not meaningful. So I'll give them until 12/29 (the original date set for the mass exodus) to do something meaningful. Then I'll leave. In short, I really want to leave, but doing so right now makes me a liar and I try to pretend to have honor.

While you do have a point, one thing to understand is the position of those companies in terms of the internet and what SOPA can do. GoDaddy is a registrar and in charge of large parts of the fundamental networking of the internet as it stands today. EA is a game developer who makes use of the internet, but doesn't really control it. It would be like if Toyota and Walmart were both backing a bill to outlaw seat belts. One of them is in a very different position in regards to seat belts than the other. Both views are detestable, but Toyota should damn well know better.

A lot of companies that support SOPA are being boycotted. GoDaddy not only supported SOPA, but had a hand in the actual making of the legislation. Activision/Blizzard does not support SOPA, so I'm not going to bother responding to the first 1/2 of your post. Well actually, your whole post kind of falls apart... because Blizzard does not support SOPA.

You can pretend to have honor and whatnot, but supporting a company that had a hand in making the SOPA legislation, and whose CEO actively hunts elephants and really just doesn't give a fuck about his customers... kind of makes you a supporter of the dark side ![]()

Remember to post back here and tell us which provider you chose to switch to! Namecheap is recommended a lot as being good overall in their service, and their CEO recently came out in full opposition of SOPA. They even have a coupon code SOPAsucks that gives some additional discount, rofl.
