Funny how those elected by the people keep passing laws a vast majority of the people don't support (or even are completely ignorant about).
At some point there has to be a realization that we're creating too much concentrated power; not only in the US but in the EU as well. Decisions concerning millions of people are taken by those least competent (a bunch of middle aged men with no tech understanding at all).
And how ironic is it that China is mentioned and targeted so often as the one country US should not become, and is different from. Yet that is precisely the direction taken.
The snowball effect of ever increasing bueracracy is reaching a point where it's hard to conceive it can ever be stopped.

Why would you want to make an example of even after changing their position we are still going to boycott? Think about the message that sends to the next corporation that is about to cave to the pressure. Why would they change their position if they will get boycotted anyway. They are a corporation, you can't blame them for not having any morals and only thinking about dollars and cents. We should be giving a ton of positive PR to Godaddy right now so that other corporations having something to look forward to if they switch sides.
Because this is very obviously just a PR stunt. What does twittering "We no longer support SOPA" do? It just is PR to stop people from canceling contract. Is does not heal the damage done by a huge hosting company helping to make the bill and support its legislation.

They are most likely also going to stop lobbying for the bill. Without lobbyists the bill won't pass, so getting rid of people that support the bill is a good thing, and something you should want to reinforce.
On a related note, it seems that a few days ago the EU Council (a political body not elected by the people by the way) has passed ACTA for voting during the 'Agriculture and Fisheries' meeting of 15-16:
The Council adopted a decision authorising the signing of an anti-counterfeiting trade agreement (ACTA) with Australia, Canada, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and the United States.
Supporters of the bill gave $57 million Opponents of the bill gave $8 million
You can view how much each congressman got, how much each "organization" gave in monetary donations to fight/support this bill, specific companies that support and oppose it, among other things.

It must look pretty bad when "education" and "human rights" are against you.
[GoDaddy CEO] Adelman couldn’t commit to changing its position on the record in Congress when asked about that, but said “I’ll take that back to our legislative guys, but I agree that’s an important step.” But when pressed, he said “We’re going to step back and let others take leadership roles.” He felt that the public statement removing their support would be sufficient for now, though further steps would be considered.
Stick to your guns guys and burn these motherfuckers. Transfer your domains asap! Make a statement with your wallet.
On another note, DO NOT FORGET ABOUT PROTECT-IP!
Make sure you contact your senators about PROTECT-IP. About 40 senators support it and they need 20 more to pass it through. Not enough enough people are contacting their senators about this. Do the same thing you did with your Reps, except direct it towards the Senators as well.

No, dude. That's exactly what they want you to believe. Don't fall for it.
Edit: Whoops, not paying attention, turns out my link is pretty much the same thing as the poster above me. Still... yeah. This should illustrate that GoDaddy is indeed full of shit. Please don't fall for their bullshit.

Dear God really GoDaddy?? These guys are just like MPAA/RIAA. Best word to describe them...phony. I'm utterly disgusted by their attempt at saving face, because it's quite obvious they are paying the public lip service in order to make it seem like they don't support SOPA, but fuck they had their hands in the cookie jar from the damn get-go. They "on-the-record" supported every section of that bill, hell they even played a role in it's writing.
Far too late, GoDaddy, you're gonna have to try harder than this. Violence is wrong, but I'd probably get arrested if I met that douchebag CEO face to face.

I am sorry, but this sounds a bit like you are living in fairy tale land. They have not drawn back their support for the bill; they just wrote a few lines to stop costumers from moving away their domains.

So what's the problem? Now you can boycott them. I didn't say boycotting them for supporting SOPA was stupid. I said boycotting them out of spite even if they withdrew support from SOPA is stupid. If they faked withdrawing their support for SOPA then that wouldn't be very hard to prove (see last few posts).

I don't think there is a "problem". What I think is, that it is quite naive to say "We should be giving a ton of positive PR to Godaddy right now..." based on a tweet with no backup action.

The more publicity you give them for speaking out against SOPA then the more backlash they will get for going back on their word. Win/Win

Yeah, is there anything people not from the USA can do to stop this bill?
Look at the list of companies in the US who do and do not support this bill and support them accordingly. Even if you aren't in the US, there are companies who you patronize by visiting their website or making use of their services. If they lose money because they are supporting this bill, it doesn't matter if that lost revenue comes from inside or outside of the country. Money is money and you can still hurt them.
In the video above (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJIuYgIvKsc) he actually says that the best way to help, is to email legislators in the US, and urge them to watch the video and to oppose SOPA because of the problem-reaction-solution criminal actions taken by CBS/CNet and co.
There are many easily obtained email lists of US legislators, and it only takes one time sending one email, just need to paste as many emails in the "to:" field as you can, I guess.
I'm not a particularly intelligent person, I have a lot of passion for life, music, technology..this seems an easy way to help - as to the effectiveness, maybe...maybe not..but its better than doing nothing.
I don't see how it's useful to share this video. It holds limited relevance to the debate about the law. I'm sure that no one will be surprised that businessmen, even among more established businesses, have tried to use file-sharing for their own profit, even while it represents a conflict of interest (which is really the only thing the video serves to bring to light). The problem with making this video a focal point is that we turn the focus to the companies, who don't matter, giving them undue attention (reinforcing the effect of lobbying) and turn the attention away from the law, which matters. I don't care why the law is proposed, what I do care is what it will do and what this means to society. I would rather not distort this important debate by throwing mud around.
Apparently 80k + moved from Godaddy now, considering they host about 45 million domains, sadly that means they only lost about 0.2% of there total revenues but if this number could get to 4/5 times the size by the end of the month it would send a strong message to the scums supporting SOPA
I read somewhere that Twitchtv uses Godaddy. Is that true? If it is, why is a site that would get shut down be using people who support SOPA and or PROTECT IP in the first place?

They probably didn't know GoDaddy supported SOPA? What kind of question is that lol...
They've said they will switch anyways, and it's the holidays, so it will take some time.
