It's educational and a good rebuttal to the RIAA and MPAA et al's story of "COPYRIGHT IS HURTING ECONOMY!" argument.

Creating technical boundaries for the 'boycotters' to not be able to successfully move their domains and actually causing problems for namecheap in the meantime .. wow

So instead start asking yourself why this is happening in the first place. + Show Spoiler + Also this crap bill is not going to be passed, with all the legal power behind the large companies and the lack of public interest it contains.Stop overreacting.

You guys brought this on to yourself, and though I am sure this does not include everyone, I am sure AT LEAST half the people reading this post have pirated over $10 of things before. So instead start asking yourself why this is happening in the first place. How is this related? Have you even read the bill? Edit: Yeah, it's not going to be passed. But prepare for what comes after.

Would love to hear how you ended up with the 90% number And you could also turn the last thing you said on its head; with all the large companies / funding backing the bill it's dangerously realistic that it could pass

How does it matter why it is happening? It doesn't make it any more right or wrong. Or do you propose we should be ok with it out of guilt? That's retarded. Also the issues with this bill is much larger than copyright infrigements. If you can't see that maybe you should ask yourself why so many people have a problem with it instead of just assuming it's because we want to download things for free...

Educate yourself PLEASE. I understand that it feels great to stand on a moral high ground and judge others, but if you are going to engage in public discourse at least have an inkling of the issue.

If you're going to tell someone to educate themselves, at least poke at why they don't have "an inkling on the issue". Otherwise, you're just spouting off a blank statement of ridicule and not explaining why you're ridiculing. I say that to not confuse the fact that I, also, think he's wrong--but I'd be interested in knowing why you think he is.

This thread alone is filled to the brim with information. He'd basically just be repeating the same things you could already read in the past 10 pages or so. In other words, I'm saying it'd be redundant. I'll go ahead and touch on the original statement though. The law doesn't actually do anything to stop piracy and does stand to do great harm to the structure of the internet. As such, there is a clear lack of efficacy to the law and it shouldn't be permitted. There are other issues at work here but I think this is the heart of it all.

The only people supporting it are a FEW big name companies, but the people (what really matters) are against it completely. It seems as if the government had any sense, they would realize that the people want no censorship, and that big name companies are only being greedy. Torrenting and piracy does not lose a lot of profit, maybe 2% at most. That may sound like a big deal but you are still making bank, if you are companies like Adobe or Bethesda. Seems like the government needs to open their eyes and pay attention to the real foundation of this nation, which is the people, not the greedy-ass companies. Anonymous hacked into Stratfor. Dumbest move yet. Stratfor is an intelligence group, yes, but they reveal almost all their information to the public anyway. There's nothing inherently 'evil' about them, I'm subscribed to their newsletter as it is. I really don't see what the heck the point of hacking them was... it would make more sense for Anon to attack SOPA/PIPA supporters, not some open-access company.
