TL;DR: I'm betting it wont pass, the tech industry has a lot of money and influence.
I call bullshit, is that why Lamar Smith refuses to allow any Tech/Internet Engineers & Experts to speak on the matter and educate congress on the Internet these morons know nothing about, much less a keyboard???
Dear god you guys, we really need the entire world to fight this. FUCK YOU Motion Picture Association of America & Recording Industry Association of America (MPAA/RIAA), they really need to be taken down, they are lobbying so fucking hard in Congress right now it's blatantly obvious how fast they want this pushed through before opposition builds. What we have here are greedy ass corporations that refuse to adapt to modern business models paying to pass laws so people can go back to buying DVD/CDs, screw these ass hats to hell. Spread the word of their foul play and corruption just to protect their profits, they want this bill passed because it gives the MUSIC/MOVIE industries power to blackout websites, yes not just the courts, MPAA/RIAA can enforce action as well with a simple notice. So disgustingly foul, reminds me of Tobacco/Alcohol companies lobbying against marijuana to protect their own profits.
Do the research people, these entertainment industries are funneling the might of their bank accounts into these politicians pockets so that they will vote in their favor, why else would guys that know nothing about computers, internet, let alone keyboards try and regulate the Internet which they can't even use. It makes NO sense. I've been reading so many sources, but one that stood out, "this is like open heart surgery, without nurses and doctors. Where the Internet (patient) is being operated on, by students (politicians), without doctors and nurses (Internet Engineers/Experts)." The Tech Industry, 83 Engineers that helped developed the Internet, and virtually every law professor in the US oppose this bill, yet these politicians won't even allow them to speak on the matter in the Congressional meetings, it is absolutely ridiculous, it reeks of foul play. If these guys don't understand the fundamentals of the Internet themselves, they have NO RIGHT to regulate the Internet as it affects the entire world. AMERICA is against SOPA/PIPA, how can Hollywood/Music industry be so powerful compared to the voice of the people, just because they pay off these politicians??
Please spread the word about these corrupt industries.
There's so much material to go through out there, my voice is so little to none, please help me save the Internet for the world. America will not stand for this. The world will not stand for this. This level up corruption is appalling.

Nobody seems to care... Fuck this...
It seems that Naniwa 's doing on GSL can attract millions of views, but the fact that (possibly/eventually) no more Naniwa stream/play will be accessible, DOES NOT!
The many threads on Teamliquid, maybe will be no more! I will post a link here, MPAA/RIAA /Universal will see it - You're fucked Teamliquid!
This is crazy, and I find it hard to believe that Teamliquid doesnt do anything to raise awareness! Yes, its hard to believe that things will happen to our beloved site and community, BUT why the hell give them a chance to cripple Internet freedom?
In my honest and sad opinion, this should be a sponsored thread...
Dont get me wrong , I love Drewbie and coaching, but , it does feel to me that this is more important.
I signed in on Mozilla's page against SOPA , and on other protests, I dont know what else can I do..
Please, please teamliquider's , try and support this , especially if you are from U.S.
We really need the TL admins to put this on the front page. I'm fucking astounded, and frankly embarassed that they haven't.
This isn't political. This is about something that affects every single user of this website, foreign or american. This is more important than naniwa, mutalisks, game balance, the GSL, MLG, EVERYTHING.
If you do have a website or anything, do put the SOPA/PIPA info on there. Be sure to keep the parts that its a realy bad one, followed by a slightly less bad one but that both are more or less equally bad. Trying to trick people in power that might oppose sopa that if they say no to sopa they must say yes to pipa "which isnt at all what sopa was about, you know?"
If RIAA/MPAA can push politics out there. Why isnt google, facebook, youtube etc having big red labels for US ppl saying: Hello, would you like our sites to keep functioning? Waiting for thoose sites to put the info out there loud and clear. (Or maybe everyone will just keep playing MW3 =) )

I like this idea to help spread the word. We need big voice to help us shout louder.

Yes, this seems to be the solution, as well as the real major concern here.

Because major television networks are funded by the RIAA/MPAA. They've been paid to not cover this, because if it hits the television, SOPA/PIPA are as good as dead.
Is there anything a non-american can do against this other than informing his american friends? I have a lof of work for uni so don't really have the time to go through the entire thread.

He may not allow them to speak at the mark up session, but that does not stop a tech lobbyist from speaking with representatives and/ his/her staff. Lobbyists go directly to a member's office or one of his/her fundraising events. The people speaking at hearings/mark up sessions are industry experts invited by a member; the tech industry lobbyists are different people that have access to the members and their staff regardless of rep. smith says. Smith's decisions don't limit the tech lobby's influence in any way.

Thanks for clarifying, because I've been following this since mid-November, ever since the day Smith brought in 4 proponents to SOPA, and only 1 opponent (rep from Google), and the rep from Google was clearly overshadowed by the proponents, she just had no chance with Smith downplaying everything, and at the mark up hearing every time Lofgren called to bring in experts to explain to the dimwits in Congress about the Internet, which those representatives know jack about, he flat out refused saying there was no point, go figure. When I was watching things unfold live, it looks so one-sided, the entertainment industry really has such a strong foothold in Congress, and it really hurts that the representatives are geezers that know jack about tech.
I find it frustrating that as a non-american this might affect all the major sites I visit. What will their restriction be? Will they be able to bring down sites that aren't based in the US?
Most frustrating because I can't even do anything about it lol.
How is it legal that we let major corporations throw over FIVE MILLION DOLLARS at the congress members directly?
Lobbying is the most hateful, disgusting thing in politics. It's supposed to exist so things like SOPA DON'T pass. It's for the little guy to be heard. Now it's just about the big corporations throwing the money at enough people in order to get their insanity passed.
