It has been long time coming. I know what i'll be doing when it comes to europe (it's only a question of time if the US gets it). The greed and corruption from within side our own governments has gone on far too long and unchecked, thanks to outlets on the Internet for information other than mainstream media, we at least have a glimmer of hope to uncover the truth behind things. It's really hard for me to prepare for the worst here, and it's also hard to hope for the best with this coming scenario...I will believe in government this one time in hopes that they will not fail the public, and our freedoms will not be usurped by Hollywood$$.

Well if the US gets it, with the way the internet is structured, it is conceivable that you could still be effected in some manner even though you are not in the US. I doubt the government recognizes "foreign" sites because of how easy it is to set up a server in another country for a site. "This content is blocked in your country" could be the most common site soon.

So no i don't think i'll be affected until the EU passes the same law. So far only China and Iran uses DPI afaik, and soon the US.

I had never heard of this until a few days ago when I heard of it from a fellow student. On that same day I found this thread as well. Want to know what is more ridiculous, a large part of the electorate voting on this might as well be computer illiterate. The openly admit to not understanding quite a bit and suggested perhaps more experts should give input, but never less are still bum rushing this.

Could every internet company in the US move to another country and still be available to americans? Or will the law enforcers block international sites that doesn't follow this law?

Or will the law enforcers block international sites that doesn't follow this law? They would block the domain name. for example youtube.com. You'd have to use an alternate url or an ip to access it. But yes that would prevent the US companies from being liable i think. But Google, facebook and Amazon aren't going to be moving their data centers so that's not really feasible for the big companies. hopefully soon TL will be hosted in a "free country" (if the law passes) and we'll use teamliquid.ch or maybe even teamliquid.se or something of the sort to access it.
