Could every internet company in the US move to another country and still be available to americans? Or will the law enforcers block international sites that doesn't follow this law?

They would block the domain name. for example youtube.com. You'd have to use an alternate url or an ip to access it. But yes that would prevent the US companies from being liable i think.

But Google, facebook and Amazon aren't going to be moving their data centers so that's not really feasible for the big companies.

hopefully soon TL will be hosted in a "free country" (if the law passes) and we'll use teamliquid.ch or maybe even teamliquid.se or something of the sort to access it.

Im fairly certain they would be able to go after them as long as they continue to do business in the US while still hosting whatever content is deemed copyrighted. The specific location of the data center wouldn't stop them. Their may end up being more work arounds if they cant touch the data site directly, but it would also become a headache and a legal money pit for the company in question.

This bill doesn't fuck with sites like team liquid, it fucks with sites like piratebay and demonoid. Sites where you can go and pirate/steal (call it whatever you want to justify it) copyrighted materials.

Idiots and Hypocrits. You don't even understand what you are fighting for. You are too brain dead to think for yourself instead of jumping on the band wagon and taking the opinion of some kid with a community college business diploma who spent 10 seconds creating this thread.

Instead of being complete fucking morons, how about you go and do a little research into what you are reading? You criticize politicians for blindly taking money laden brown envelopes and pushing through bills without using some common sense, and then you turn around and do the exact same thing.

Stop taking the word of the people's champions (OP and TL Staff who spotlight this garbage). Use your brain, make up your own mind based on hard facts and man hours spent researching the topic. More than likely a bunch of useless mouth breathers will come and pick a single point in this post to have collective apoplexy over. But, I'm not so delusional that I actually believed I'd convert anyone in this thread into a self-concious human.

Thank god I don't live in America, the land of the "free". Seriously though, it really sucks that the US keeps bringing shit like this up because even though I don't live in the US, I will be affected since so much of the good parts of the net is situated there.

Please americans, get that shit outta here.

actually you are the arrogant ignorant who has no idea what you are talking about. Any link or embed to a SC VoD with copyrighted music, or any stream playing copyrighted music could mean domain ban for tl.net. ever read the youtube thread? i bet it's full of copyrighted embed. all the music threads : same thing, the list goes on and on.

take your own advice and use your brain before posting garbage like that, or alternatively READ THE OP.

There, I picked 5 points. Maybe next time you want to come of as the mature and intellectual person you'd be able to express yourself in a way that doesn't make you look like a complete a-hole yourself.

Thanks for proving my point.

Youtube doesn't allow copy righted material to be posted without disclaimers.

Any stream would have to give credit to the people's music they are playing. Is that such a bad thing? These people are spending money to make their music, and someone else is profitting off playing it.

As long as you are giving credit to the original author for the item's, you'll never have an issue.

ALL THEY WANT IS SOME ACCOUNTABILITY. STOP STEALING SHIT OR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OTHER PEOPLE'S HARD WORK. GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!!!!!!

You've been brainwashed into believing it's your right to play this music anywhere on the internet, or take advantage of the anonymity of the internet. Just because you've been doing it all your life doesn't make it right.

just because they don't allow it doesn't mean it isn't there. Why do you think Google is lobbying against this? Maybe you think you're smarter then Google and know better than them, ya i don't think so.

Notice i talked about streams streaming copyrighted shit ? Domain ban for tl.net right there, don't even need youtube.

I know exactly why. They are lobbying against it because they don't want to be the police of the internet which is exactly what the bill wants them to do. They would be responsible for user generated uploads on youtube, on their user blogs, on google+ on anything. like i said it's not because it isn't allowed that copyright infringement isn't there.

just like tl.net would be responsible for their user generated content. i like how you conveniently avoid the streaming issue.

Now plz oh you superior self conscious troll, take your own advice and go do some research.

edit: rofl he got perma'd. i was hoping that would happen. TY mods.

only thing there is to do if you aren't from the US is sign one of the online petitions i think. It isn't much but it's something.

Here's one: http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet/

But if you are form the US, go sign the petition on whitehouse.gov and call your representatives.

We would if we could bro. Our whole election process is broken. Hard to boot all these yahoos out of the capital when our system is built to support them.

Most of us are just waiting for the baby boomer generation to die off. It will take a lot of these batshit crazy radicals with them. If it makes you feel any better the post-1980 age group in America is far more moderate.

So we just have to bite the bullet for another 20y? That's not good enough. In 20y everything will be fucked.

I'll be in the street in front of the European parliament when this shit comes to Europe, and i know i won't be alone. I'll take days off work if i have to.

Of course you will get pepper sprayed for expressing your opinions, just another reason not to take their shit.

This massive censorship of the internet seems more in accordance with Iran or China's ideals than the United States. It actually doesn't protect anything since pirates will find a way around the block no matter what is set in place (look at China). It also will almost surely destroy many websites by either having them taken down completely or forcing website designers to so drastically restructure their site that it won’t serve its functions that it was previously created to do. Restriction of information and freedom on the biggest and most crucial frontier of the 21st century will only harm everyone involved, even the corporations pushing the bills. I implore you to vote against these bills.

Here is mine in case anyone wants to use this.
