Lobbying is actually a great thing. It encompasses much more than just rich companies and people sending gifts to congressmen. Lobbying is exactly what you do when you attempt to contact a congressman about an issue.

This is actually pretty true. Lobbyists allow citizens to donate to organizations and "vote" for legislation they want.

The issue is when corporations finance things they want that doesn't benefit the average citizen. But yeah, lobbying really isn't a terrible thing.

Who has more wealth, corporations or middle-lower class people? It will never work how it's supposed to.

trolling? We wanted that amendment.. We just lost 10-24. Unless you're Pro-SOPA, I suppose.

The reason they call for recorded vote is 1) waste time, advantageous to those against bill. 2) get the votes recorded so that people are accountable for their votes later down the line.

unfortunately, lobbying requires money. what ends up happening is rich companies tend to have more time/influence because they have more money to spend.

there's nothing wrong with the concept of lobbying. what's wrong is the way it's implemented.

It's what's wrong with the election system. If we had laws and regulations towards national elections which severely limited the influence of money in those elections, then we'd have a system where moneyed lobbyists would be at a much smaller advantage.

Just requires reform. Not an abolishment of lobbying.

It wont matter as long as the wealth distribution is so lopsided. As long as someone with immense wealth can lobby freely it will be a mess. Reform is irrelevant because there aren't enough politicians that dont benefit from lobbying to support reform.

My watching of this stream has opened my eyes at just how ignorant many of our representatives are. The fact that some of them do not even understand the ease one could just bypass the new rules are astounding. What is even more ludicrous is that some representatives are willing to vote on the bill even without testaments by experts and other individuals who actually understand what it is that they are talking about.

Surely this bill would never pass with the way they are heavily stacking this bill in a very idiotic fashion! Of course it has to pass through the House of BatShitCrazyRepresentatives! I don't think it could pass the senate unless the whole bill is a poison pill that people will play politics with ("Senator Derp did not vote to stop foreigners from stealing our jobs and to stop the bleeding out of American money from internet piracy! He is the reason you are unemployed!)

I can't believe they are even discussing this. This would be practically impossible to enforce and there is no way that they would have sufficient founds for it.
