Here is the fact of the matter: penises are funny. Vaginas aren't very funny, boobs aren't very funny, fallopian tubes are actually hilarious but that's besides the point. We live in a culture where middle schoolers have a game where they yell penis really loud and laugh. It's called the penis game. And it's funny because you yell penis really loud. See the point I'm making here? It's not funny because a man went through a horrible amount of pain both physical and mental, it's funny because his DICK GOT CUT OFF. Just because certain men might not find it funny doesn't mean it is offensive or some sort of commentary on how sexism has evolved in our culture when a woman finds it funny. It's just a fucking story about a severed dick. You find it funny, some found it disturbing (as I did). I find it weird the people who find it harmlessly funny are the ones writing the rantiest posts. Some jokes piss people off. They're going to say so. That's art. You're not defending art by shielding it from criticism. You're killing it. People have the right to point out when Sharon sticks her foot in her mouth. That's what she gets for putting her face on my goddamn TV. Except, you're not bitching about sharon's bad joke. You're bitching about gender inequality, and you're strawmanning the most intelligent post in the thread in the process. "Strawmanning intelligent posts" seems like a contradictory term, so I have no idea what you're talking about. And I've said nothing about gender inequality. This is more about people having the right to point out poor taste without being accused of some form of censorship by sensationalists like yourself.
Yo dawg, if you want to say "well laughing at that is in pretty poor taste" then you go for it and you'll get no response from me. My post was (mainly) focused on the people trying to construe this story as a commentary on sexism against men. I know I said no one should be offended by what someone thinks is funny but that's a separate argument. My main point is that this shit has nothing to do with sexism or reverse sexism or anything you want to call it. Also I'm not trying to censor anything, I'm just saying it's fucking retarded. Disagreement =/= censorship.

Someone's life did get hurt specifically, and Sharon made a joke of it on TV. That's blatantly rude, hardly funny. People want to point that out, and you're berating them for it. Why? Alright there's some MAJOR miscommunication going on here. Let's take a couple steps back. There is far, FAR more going on in this thread then "well that's not funny" or "that's totally tasteless". The source of my rage (found in the original post you replied to a page or two back) was mainly this outcry over sexism against men that is getting all over the internet and all over this thread because of this supposed "incident", NOT the fact that people thought it wasn't funny. Like I said, if you want to complain that these women were saying things that were uncalled for or disgusting or something then go for it. I wouldn't agree with your decision to be offended by what some people think is funny but once again like I said that's a different argument.
For the record, I think these girls are just as annoying as anyone else does. I just think this outcry is completely and utterly pointless and a prime example of how sensationalist everyone gets over the littlest things that don't matter in the slightest. Waste of time and effort.
edit: I guess the argument is between you and the other guy now but I felt like I should chime in cause it was my post that started it.

The whole situation surrounding the story is kind of absurd so I'm not that surprised they are having a laugh or two. Filing a complaint at CBS is not the manly thing to do imho. Being butt-hurt about a talkshow is something best left to christian moms.
|
props to the actress on the left - in the maroon and white striped top - trying to be more human about the matter and not a giggling sexist like the others. that took some courage to do on national TV when everyone in the room is laughing. HUGE respect!
she looks alot better here than in big bang theory :D what's her name?

I really seem to feel very condemned towards the hosts of the talk show. To no surprise, the entire audience is female as well. Even though men are mostly and still considered to be dominant in society, this is unacceptable. (I am male). I do not understand why those women were even laughing at that matter. Rape is not a laughing matter. Men don't go around laughing about how women get raped. These cases are serious matters and I am very indignant of this situation.

This is so disturbing, especially that talk show @_@

Watched a minute or so. It disgusted me. I hope the prison guards give her a jolly time in prison

I don't see anything funny about a man's penis getting cut off.

lol i'll ignore the religion bashing but there certainly are people in this thread that only argue that it's a double standard for the sake or arguing it without realizing that not once in the history of the internet has anybody been convinced they are wrong.
i'm sure all the female rape victims are really hurting over this disgraceful thread.

That man probably has some good dick if his soon-to-be ex-wife would rather sit in jail than risk another women getting all that good sausage in the future. If she cant have it...no one can.

What a massive double standard, it's such a fucking disgrace to humanity, not just women that we have such "humour". I am livid, this is actually really upsetting. I'm boycotting sexism. I am going to be an absolute sexist prick, laugh at womens rights forever.
SAYING that its NOT the same, Gahhahahahahahaa Im so fucking mad
fuck these hosts, at least one realized how sexist they're being, to mad to think. Going to bed... lol so ur denying that there is sexism towards women just cause 4 women were being sexist towards men on a tv show? i agree with all this outrage and indignantion (over the actual incident, and maybe sharon osbourne) but you can't just go hating all women and denying that women get treated like shit all over the world Women aren't treated like shit by me or anyone I know >.> Actually, I have not seen discrimination (between ppl I know) against women in real life in years. The other day I saw a guy being a dick to his gf on the bus.... And I was about ready to defend his gf when she did the same thing to him. I wish I could prevent ppl from being pricks all over the world, but I am not going to be condemned for someone elses actions. It's the same thing with racism, I have never been racist, I will not tolerate being limited because americans owned slaves and had jim crow laws and other crap before my family immigrated to america.
As far as mistreatment of women, tens of thousands of girls and women are sold as sex slaves every year, and millions are second rate citizens in various countries. Several also receive secondary priority when it comes to education.
My issue with this thread, and youtube comments is "Sharon Osbourne acted like a (insert rude anti-woman word here)" is something I'm reading far too commonly. Can't you just say she was very rude without using a spiteful (against women) word?
If people think they can force other people to act nicely with foul remarks, well, that's not really the intent of their remark is it? It would make more sense to say something nice if you want nice back. Join in some ever-escalating game of hurtful language, and you get a person acting like Sharon Osbourne or Don Imus as the result, or more lamentably, the modern population of youth (on average, I know there's still some young people who keep it clean ).
No, this isn't censorship, it's advice.

I don't think anyone condones this behaviour, but let's get some things straight. People seem to be upset about the following things:
- A poor bastard had his pride and joy removed
I think every man, woman and child can appreciate the gravity of the situation for this poor man. No man should have to live through that.
- These hosts made a really tasteless joke given the situation
Disgusting, disrespectful and downright stupid come to mind. The arrogance and naivety to try and jest as this poor bastard's predicament is pathetic.
- Apparent double standards
If this were a group of men, they would be hauled over the coals for any behaviour remotely similar to this and it seems these women have gotten off, scott free. I would argue that whilst this may be true, it is hardly worth getting upset over.
Think of the previous two points, they deserve your rage. Not some thinly veiled double standard. So men are hard done by, this poor guy had his nuts chopped off and then these hags had the audacity to laugh about it. That is what you should be raging about, not whether they get off lightly because they are women.
