I know you may not understand because you are clearly lacking it but for people that have empathy ya the talk show would piss you off. What a massive double standard, it's such a fucking disgrace to humanity, not just women that we have such "humour". I am livid, this is actually really upsetting. I'm boycotting sexism. While I am ok with humor in the media, they took the wrong side of the situation. News flash, both rape and chopping off someones dick is not ok, they are both problems. | ||

what circumstances? even if he DID do something terrible like cheat, he was filing for divorce is ALL we know. so if this was the other way around. a guy drugs his wife who wants a divorce, ties her up, and cuts off a body part of hers, lets not even say it's her genitals, lets just say it's her thumbs instead since people like to make weird male vs female genitals comparisons. under WHAT scenario, would this EVER be brought on television, and people would laugh about it, and say "oh it's just a joke, grow up, get real". under WHAT scenario would anyone say "well, really, it was fabulous, that'll teach her a lesson, well really, i guess it depends on the situation". Really? so if the woman was caught cheating on the husband, and filed for a divorce because she wanted to be with her beau, then it'd be justified for her to lose a limb or two? cmon what the fuck, this is a sick situation and the way this was handled was terrible. a group of guys on say the manshow joking about this would have feminist rights activist protesting at their fucking station within hours. the simple fact is this is fucking terrible, no human being deserves this, and no one should ever think it's a laughing matter regardless of the "situation". | ||

You're comparing it to a rape-joke -- what rape-joke in particular? I've heard rape-jokes, but not so much from celebrity daytime talk shows, and never have I head a rape-joke based off of a recent real-life event. George Carlin may have told a rape-joke or two, but he's not an idiot. He knows where the lines you don't cross are. Humor, like all matters of taste, is subjective. Bu that doesn't mean that any humor is in good taste. "Good" taste and "good" humor and all subjective matters of what is "good" are defined by consensus. I guarantee you that in this case, the consensus is going to be that Sharon's "joke" was tasteless and not funny. Not good. The question I ask isn't why do people care enough to discuss this -- that's a stupid question really. They discuss it because they can. The question I'm thinking of is why do you care what people discuss? Does it bother you that people are offended when real-life genital-mutilation is used as humor in daytime T.V.? Why? Ok, so rape jokes are poor taste and 9/11 jokes are poor taste and dead baby jokes are poor taste and whatever. THERE ARE REAL DEAD BABIES YOU KNOW! That's comedy, big deal. Get over it. If somebody made a dead baby joke and you said "that's in poor taste", I wouldn't be posting in this thread. But if you tried to turn it into a crusade about how unfair it is that somebody got away with a dead baby joke, because everytime you made one nobody laughed, I would appropriately judge you to be mentally unfit. | ||

Here is the fact of the matter: penises are funny. Vaginas aren't very funny, boobs aren't very funny, fallopian tubes are actually hilarious but that's besides the point. We live in a culture where middle schoolers have a game where they yell penis really loud and laugh. It's called the penis game. And it's funny because you yell penis really loud. See the point I'm making here? It's not funny because a man went through a horrible amount of pain both physical and mental, it's funny because his DICK GOT CUT OFF. Just because certain men might not find it funny doesn't mean it is offensive or some sort of commentary on how sexism has evolved in our culture when a woman finds it funny. Was the talk show lady being a little immature? Yeah, I'll give you that. Is she a sexist, a hypocrite, and a terrible person? Maybe, but it's impossible to tell from the video. It's just a fucking story about a severed dick. | ||
