Only because "some" Nazi's murdered about 2 million jews
lol it never gets old doesn't it?
u do realize that was almost 70 years ago? why are we always the bad guys? a long time ago the north american continent was populated by natives, where are they now? most of them are dead... u know who did it? you people and dont get me started on the church and how many they killed...
I gained an ounce of respect for Vancouver through these riots. Rioting shows that the people of Vancouver really, REALLY like their hockey, and are motivated enough to emotionally react in a visible, active way. Business owners have insurance, so I would not view the looting/destruction as completely annihilating a owner's savings: I do acknowledge that insurance doesn't wipe their losses clean, however, and I feel for their extreme loss. All in all, it was a relatively controlled riot that showed spirit and heart for a team destined for a cup soon; it was not the riot of '94.
The above statement does not apply in any way, shape or form to riots regarding the Oakland Raiders football team.

so get over it, shit happens
Pretty much this. Too much blaming going on. We need to act like people functioning in a society. No more "Japan bombed pearl harbor." "Nazis killed Jews" "Americans killed indians." "Slavery." If we keep bringing up what our ancestors did, how can we move forward? No more excuses.

People were planning to riot and loot regardless of if we won or lost, so this doesn't really add up. If trashing our own shit is something that gave you respect for us, we really don't need your support, thanks.

Don't post your retarded opinions about how Vancouver hockey fans should be embarrased. I watched this with thousands of other people. Everyone there went home depressed.
The people you see here, are in no way related to hockey. They were just looking for an excuse to destroy the city and the fans are the ones who rallied up to clean this mess up starting this morning.
there are tons of pictures of people decked out Nucks gear. The hell are you talking about???
a lot of people just showed up for chaos like in '94, but there was definitely plenty of canucks fans there.
Wearing a Canucks jersey doesn't make you a Canucks fan.

you realize how little difference it makes by wearing a canucks jersey?. only a fraction of nucks fans are doing this, it's just dumbasses looting/people wanting to start shit.
idc if hate on nucks from a hockey standpoint but this doesn't have anything to do with hockey. when shit happens and people start doing stuff with 50000 other people it's a chain reaction.
i know a lot of people who went downtown just to take pictures and they weren't canucks fans. they're just people who want to be involved in this stupid shit
and 80% of the people i know who actually went downtown were just bandwagon fans. they don't care if the canucks are doing bad, or mediocre. that isn't a real fan. 80% of the people who are watching in vancouver are guys who never watch hockey in the regular season let alone 1st 2nd round of the playoffs
ah yes, I too generally spent $100 something dollars to buy a shirt that I completely and totally hate!
while there was plenty of dudes in black who came for the sole purpose of fucking shit up, there were assloads of canucks fans there. I don't see how one can deny that.

I have a $150 Habs jersey and I don't particularly care though.

You funny =)
ok, change that in "shit happens, if we let it happen"
They breaking stuff as if they were not paying for it in the end... come on guys, torching police cars, breaking theyr own city, who you think pay the taxes? you think the cops are like ** oh fuck they burning our cars !! ** hell no! they more like ** look at those monkeys, they want more taxes **
Pretty much every major sporting event will eventually turn into a shit storm if repeated enough. Here in Edmonton we had riots and the Oilers didn't even make the finals, or were at home.
What Vancouver did was merely a interesting example of mob mentality and had little to do with Hockey. Hockey facilitated the gathering of people which was the catalyst and possibly in some cases put people in the state of mind where they were susceptible to escalation but all it really is is interesting; Nothing remarkable about it as far as riots go.

I agreed at first, I just thought it was a funny way of saying it =)

define fan
i think of fan as a person who regularly watches the team. through ups and downs, everything. a lot of these people are in downtown for the social aspect and not for the actual hockey game. they like to be pumped and excited. i know people wearing the jersey who don't ever watch hockey.
sure they care about the canucks but they weren't fucking stuff up JUST because they were in grief or mourning over their teams loss. it may seem like it but it's just a bunch of people conforming to the small fraction of people who did shit. alcohol helps too
gofarman is right, hockey was just a catalyst.
i actually think the police could've handled this better. they knew it was going to happen, i fucking knew it going to happen if we lost.
This happened quite a few times recently, here in Montreal. Everytime it was started by dumb anarchist groups, who don't care about hockey at all, and just see this as an opportunity to fuck shit up. They even found facebook groups planning some vandalism, whatever the results the Habs would get in the playoffs. And then, of course, every drunk (or stupid) hockey fan gets influenced in vandalism.
Just a picture from the cleanup scene I wanted to share. Planks of plywood were used to board up some shop windows, this is what has been done. These are the true fans.
I'm surprised this pale little twerp has enough strength to carry the stick. It looks like he's never played a sport or had a physical job in his whole life. Seriously, that's about as undeveloped as a human body can be!
