I think they were just booing Bettman, because he hates the Canadian market and wants desperately for Black people to watch hockey games. He is probably sick that Atlanta is moving to Winnipeg. Bettman relished giving the cup to Chara though, I could hear it in his voice.
Everybody boos Bettman, but they definitely continued booing and also increased the volume when Thomas was handed the Conn Smythe.

I'll blame this on media in general. And on the culture that kind of exists as a result of that... which is just ridiculous. Sports? Really?
There are many things in this world to riot about, to be upset about, but Hockey or any sport is not one of them. It actually makes me more upset to think of all the other shit wrong and that people WOULD actually riot but only if their blue colored team wins or loses. That's just sick.
All this crap on TV and Radio and in print just blows up the importance of this crap in people's minds. It's really just a joke. And... if you've got the balls to get drunk and charge police lines and burn shit... do it because of a G8 meeting or a war or the IMF... just goes to show actually WHY our world is so fucked up and where priorities are.
how on earth can you blame this on the media???
I'm sure that for the last 3 weeks, not to mention the last 20 years, sports stories are front page, first on the commercials for TV news. Instead of... say... something important? Hence... people think this is actually something consequential to get upset about- because it's everywhere on TV and in magazines and always has been. Their team is their identity. Which can also be blamed on media always selecting entertainment value over actual meaningful content. ^.^

Greeks - Your government is broke and can't fix itself. Egypt - Prime minister is terrible and people are being sent into forced disappearance WWII style Libya - Your leader is killing civilians Canada - We lost the Stanley cup.
I witnessed only one major riot in my country and it also had a political/economical background. But I guess those are the joys of living on a rich country; you destroy things that you may end up paying with your own taxes just because of the most banal thing you can imagine. And don't play the passion card on me, my country is also very "passionate", but in cases like this you normally see the stadium and adjacents getting damaged, not people rampaging over the whole city.
Also, there is one thing that surprises me. Don't they have laws, judges, jails and stuff in Canada? Because I saw a lot of people with the face uncovered and nonchalantly posing for cameras. Even if drunk you have to be incredibly stupid to do that.
What country do you live in? Do I have to remind you what happened when Nueva Chicago was demoted to the B league last time?
I see Mauro Martin with his face uncovered every time I go to the stadium, and he has done worst things than burn a couple of cars and break some windows so please stop making ridiculous and untrue statements.
Minor looting, couple of cars and small fires, this wasn't even a riot. 94 was a riot. after L.A won the championship, that was a riot - this was retards jumping on cop cars.

It would be awesome if people would STOP pointing that out. Everyone who watches hockey is fully aware of this, it's not about the players, it's about the CITY the TEAM is from, it has nothing to do with the individuals.

Don't be . We're not all the same just because we live in the same country! Being Canadian just means you live in a particular country with some geographical boundaries, that is governed by a particular entity. That's all it is...there's no reason why you should be ashamed for what other people do. There's no connection between you and them, except that you were born in the same country!

It's like a rule... hahhaha. Some people in the thread said that the riots aren't started by the fans but some other idiots starting shit and it's true. The first riot a couple of years ago in Montreal wasn't STARTED by the hockey fans, but by people who got their Wu Tang Clan concert cancelled the same night. They started shit, walked around downtown, then the Habs fan saw people breaking stuff and they joined in.
ahhah... like my nicknames says it, im a huge wu tang fan and i live in montreal
I was there the night the riot start, april 21th, but the show wasnt cancel at all, I saw the wu tang that nigh bro. the only thing its they were only 4 instead of 8.. (but seriously, everybody knew they would not be there all..) and the riot was started before the show was finished, when I got out of the metropolis, there was already police car flaming. it was a pretty nice night.

I'm surprised, too. I have relatives in Richmond and I thought Vancouver's demographic is mostly retirees and Chinese immigrants.
You think Asians can't throw down homie???
Ahahahahaha. That pic made me laugh. I think my cousins there are still too FOBby to watch hockey.
Whether it's math, violin, or going on a violent drunken rampage after the Stanley Cup there's going to be a skinny asian kid that does it better than you
Yeah, I get it's the Stanley Cup. And yeah, I get that they're Canadian and they're supposed to "represent" . But... really? Not exactly the most mature reaction ever -.-'
