sorry for bad english.
Yeah, if that's what you think, we don't want you here.
"What kind of city do you want to live in?"
"One where crazy sports fans beat on each other and try to burn the city down."
Why do you guys find it acceptable? What about all the people that got hurt? The people that got robbed?
It gives you something to smile about? The fact that millions of dollars of damage and countless people getting hurt is something to smile about? You are a sick person.

God damn, I am embarrassed to say I'm from Vancouver.
Edit: Apparently, someone got thrown off a bridge and 9 people were stabbed too.
Just gonna correct this post,
The guy was drunk and thought he could jump from one part of the bridge to the next and he fell. He didn't die though.

well, i am against any sort of violence against an individu. but i dont really give a dam about the "million of dollars of damage"
On June 16 2011 18:58 svettis wrote: so i watched the game, why did the vancouver fans have so many canadian flags up? its a little weird..
because the cup hasnt been in Canada for a long time and alot of canadian from anywhere in canada are supporting the cannucks to get the cup back in canada.
also i think alot of them are recycling their canadian flag they bought during the vancouver olympics of 2010.

You don't care about the millions of dollars of damage that are coming out of tax payers' pockets to clean up the damage? We are talking about people that probably got off work and just wanted to go back home and watch TV and got stuck in downtown because of the riot. Not only did we not do anything we are paying for the damage too. You'd like that to happen to you?

If this would have happened in Boston I bet that most of the reactions would be shame on America rather than these groups of idiots don't represent us.

by paying for the damage u mean tax and shits? its just another couple million on the national debt, nothing to worry about. the canada's economy will collapse before we'll pay for this.
I really don't understand. Lose a game, destroy your city? At least rioting in the other city somewhat makes sense.

I am completely disgusted and disappointed with these so called "fans"
What did he do? Did he just happen to be close by?
just want to point out no one has actually been confirmed dead yet... otherwise it would be in the news
disgraceful shit, but there is no rule that says anarchists can't be fans of something, it's better then rioting when you win i suppose, although it's still terrible
I'm a born and raised Bostonian. No need to be so jeaous
EDIT: These seem like some pretty half-assed riots. Not terrible, but not too bad. Last Red Sox riot we had, I'm pretty sure a few people died with Rubber Bullets through the Eyes. And turning over cars is much more common than fires.
EDIT 2: If all of what i'm reading hear is true, i'll take my words back. This is a pretty respectable riot. It needed some more overturned cars, though.
On June 16 2011 14:10 EcstatiC wrote: psht thats nothing. thats literally the only car theyve torched. personally i was expecting much worse, but the vancouver PD has been preparing for this moment since the last time they lost in the finals 20 years ago, and things are going much, much better than they were last time.
and you're embarassed? fuck that, watching a riot caused purely by the loss of a hockey games gets me going all patriotic. nowhere else in the world is the greatest sport ever appreciated so much.
We'll see in the morning if they ACTUALLY riot, cuz right now I would call this a bit of a rollover on the part of the fans.
Edit: it appears they have begun to actually riot, so:
This is how it works: Every Canadian dreams of raising the stanley cup from the moment he can think for himself. When 99% of them realize that they aren't good enough to play any more, it becomes their dream to watch their team raise the cup, and for Vancouver, a team that has been around for 40 years without ever having won it, and now they not only had a chance, but they were expected to win. Most of these fans rioting have been cheering and carrying the colours for 15-20 years now, through all the trials and trebulation, and now it seemed to them that they would finally achieve it, until tonight. If you had been dreaming of something for 20 years, and then had it promised to you, only to have it ripped from your fingers at the last possible second, would you riot? I fucking would.
And @ people in this thread, man up. Seriously. This is Canada, and we go through hockey riots every year at this time, whether its montreal, vancouver, edmonton, or montreal (did i mention montreal?). Why is anybody even surprised about this? I thought we had come to expect this, and we've definitely learned how to handle it. Just stop being a bunch of pussies.
Edit 2: Okay the riots basically over. i give it a 4/10

In all seriousness... I love you Vancouver! Though some may think this isn't a good way to show your support.. it sure as hell gets the point across! And really What better way to show support for Swedish twins and a one eyed god(Malhotra for those that didn't get reference) Then burning looting and pillaging! Epic!
Don't worry Canucks you'll slay the frost giant (Lol Chara) next year!
Spoken like a couple of teenage/early 20s idiots who have a lifetime of menial jobs and never owning property ahead of them.

"Ashamed to be canadian" lol. I'm proud of those people right now, they should be mad. It's incredibly important to canadians.
Anyone surprised that the ones who started the fires and started jumping over burning cars happened to be of Aryan descent?
Do you mean 'white'? Because I don't think that there were conspicuously more blond-haired, blue-eyed rioters than brown-haired, brown-eyed rioters. And there definitely was a substantial contingent of Affliction-garbed Indo-Canadian rioters coming in from Surrey.

The same thing happened here in Edmonton when the Oilers had their run in 2006. And in Calgary when the Flames made the finals in 2004. In Edmonton a guy got stabbed during the finals. I know a some people that were on Whyte Ave when they rioted then (I actually lived only a few blocks away) - and its not really about being a fan of hockey, its about mob mentality mixed with lots of alcohol and a little adrenaline from the games. It's completely nonsensical.
