dyonehara is there any way you can copy the file of CNC instructions so i could load it onto a computer and not have to program the design? I have a friend with access to a machine but he wouldnt have the time to program it in, if he could just load the file and run it it will be perfect. Also have you any plans for a terran and protoss one? Haveing all 3 hung next to each other would be baller.

What 3D modelling software do you use? It wouldn't be PRO Engineer would it? My father works at PTC, and i'm sure he'd love to see this. Let me know!

I did a search and noticed most fanart postings were either blogs or in General, so if this isn't the place to post this type of content I apologize. About the piece: The logo is machined from a solid piece of 6061-T651 Billet Aluminum using a Bridgeport CNC machine. The surface is brushed to give it a semi-reflective finish, and the edges are all left as a machined finish give it a mirror look. It runs about 9 inches from head to tail and I tapped two holes in the back, so could mount it onto something. I haven't really figured out what to mount it to yet. About the creator: I'm a college student, like 99% of you out there, but my family operates a small machine shop, so on my spare time I make parts and other pieces of interest. I've always been a huge fan of Starcraft since it's inception over a decade ago, but I've really grown attached to SC2 as a whole. A month or so ago I really wanted to create something that I could send in to one of my favorite casters but wasn't sure how to go about it. I ended up creating this piece and I want to make one more for him. I was curious if anyone knew what the legal implications were of doing so. This would be a gift, and I don't plan on making any more after these two, but I realize that Blizzard aggressively pursues anyone who creates content based on any of their copyright material. A long as it's not creating any legal complications, I might end up doing a Terran and Protoss logo later to show off here as well. I look forward to the feedback of TL's community, and thank you all for viewing! ![]() ![]() ![]() Someone might have already said this but as long as your not trying to make a profit off something that they have copyrighted (or trademarked) you should be in the clear. If I were you I'd send one to the blizzard offices as a gift and see if they give you any kind of response (at least something like "hey thanks for being a fan").

I used AutoCAD to generate the images, but I use Master Cam to create the programs. I've never heard of PRO Engineer, but since the files are proprietary most CAD software can read files regardless of what program generated them. I really like the idea of a trophy. I'll be machining some work this weekend so if I have time, I'll try to create something worth sharing here. I wouldn't say I wasted any aluminum in making this, but depending on the grade of aluminum used, the price can vary heavily. I used 6061-T651 grade aluminum for this. It's one of the most common aircraft grade aluminum alloys you can find at most metal dispensaries. The tooling and holding fixtures are where most of the sunken cost lies in making parts like this. Sorry for not being able to provide an exact figure. ![]()
