also to note : John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, was one of the greatest and the mongels didnt have the biggest the British empire was ...by only a little bit but total land owned by the British was more. Aswell as Erwin Rommel not ever being great , started as good, but had the advtange in weapons making even a bad plan hard to fail. But then when things where evened out he was bested by some one who wasnt a great either and the dude was depressed as hell for most of it, like all the letters to his wife show just how bad it all was. <3 for the epic thread tho been lots of fun reading it ![]()

If he had let his generals who actually had military knowledge order the German military, then the outcome of the war could have been very different. On many occasions Hitler's incompetence as a commander cost the German army dearly. One of the most notable occasions this happened on was Stalingrad which was the beginning of the end for 3rd Reich Interesting in which ways you can talk about Hitler in USA...

I agree, he was a great commander as well as an inspiring man. In a force full of SS supporters, Rommel dared to stand up to Hitler for what he believed in, and the Germany that he believed in, earning him the admiration of both his peers and his foes. Truly a great man, showing that even in the darkest hours of humanity the good of one's heart comes first.

He decided to take the reserves at Toulon, walked up to an english fort whilst the main French army was getting ripped to shreds, scaled the walls, and raped the cannon crews allowing the French to boot the English who were trying to help the Monarchists destroy the revolution ![]() When he was stranded by Nelson's fleet in Egypt, he managed to get back to France and take complete control of France. It took alliances of something like 6-7 countries to manage to defend europe from his Grande Armee. After losing and getting exiled, he decided to escape and retake control of France, Like a boss! he was crowned Emperor by the Pope. anyways, he rocks :D also, Sun Tzu isnt a real general, historians agree its a fictional persona made to aggregate a lot of Chinese Generals' best ideas/strategies

Lee, perhaps the most successful commander in history against numerically and materially superior forces, was the gentle genius in charge of the Army of Northern Virginia and most Confederate forces during the Civil War. He developed a reputation of near omniscience among both enemies and allies, and soundly thrashed Union forces soundly on numerous occasions. His losses, few as they were, were generally more devastating to his opponents than himself, and Ulysses S. Grant, the only general to successfully corner Lee, was forced to adopt a strategy of attrition, rather than any attempt to outfight Lee.

Generals from the nazi germany often go under rated and rarely received any credit, but some of them were fucking genious.
