So I believe many of you know about this button that exclaims GG when pushed. Well, the first time I saw it I thought "wow cool, a button that triggers a macro which types out GG in the chat and leaves the game". As I soon realized that wasn't the case though and I was very disappointed
Recently though I came across a website which lets you submit ideas for products, and after going through a voting process they may or may not be produced. So I decided to try it out with this idea!
It probably is a bit too "niched" to be chosen through that site (which generally produces stuff that solves small everyday problems), but if the SC community helps out and votes it just might work Or if it doesn't but people like the idea perhaps I will try to get it produced some other way.
So please vote/rate if you like the idea, and we'll see how far that takes us
Wouldn't this be against blizzard's TOS by completing two actions via one keypress? Pretty awesome idea though, I'd buy one just so I wouldn't ever bring up the help screen while furiously trying to F10-N a game.
Better yet, put the macro into the nose of a teddy bear or something that I could set up on my desk, and when I lose just punch the shit out of the teddy bear. POW RIGHT IN THE KISSA!

...but what if your opponent loses and types out gg You can't respond by pressing the button D: Typing out gg would sorta defeat the purpose of even buying the thing =/

Yea...this is probably illegal.
Reminds me of ghostclaws buttons
If things like this was illegal nobody would still be playing wow, they would have all been banned. Chat macros are fine.

This is probably the biggest concern I have. At this early stage where I honestly doubt it will ever be more than an idea I just don't want to focus too much on problems like this quite yet. What I do think about this is though that it would be programmed in such a way that it should be impossible for Blizz to detect that a macro is being used (making the intervals of the key presses random for example) and then sell it with a warning that it may violate TOS and it's used at your own risk. I have yet to work out details of course.
Fixed link btw, don't know how it got messed up :S

macros are allowed in WoW anyways, they even built in a macro system to the game. However you can't use external software or keyboards to run the macro's in tournament settings.... you aren't even allowed to use addons, you can only use what you can setup with the stock game.
SC2 doesn't allow fore macros that perform multiple actions with one press, WoW actually is the same.... the in game macro system makes you press the key for every action you want to do exluding chat macros... chat macro's probably are fine, they can't tell if its a macro anyways and they won't ban you for it.... but any other macro's can get you banned.
I'm really not sure what to think about this. On the one hand, it's a funny idea. On the other, it makes me sad that there would probably be people that throw away their money to buy something that does nothing but enter 4 keystrokes that they could do within a split second on a keyboard that they already have a hand on...
I tend to gg when i loose but it is usually followed by something like "you fucking douchbag". I would buy this because it would reduce the amount of my BM.

Well, as I should perhaps emphasize this button is not mainly for cutting down on keystrokes. Simply put it's for the lulz
I would get it if it had a "BM mode" that would trash talk your opponent from a pool of random insults. Also, there should be a professional edition that knows what matchup it is, so it can deliver targeted trash talk about Zerg imbalance and so on.
but in all honesty I'd rather have the one that speaks, because it's not as satisfying just seeing "GG" pop up on your screen. Maybe if it did both I would get it.

I tried
How would it plug into your computer? one way to make it wireless is if you're going to use bluetooth, but then you need to have something that has a usb header so you can make an interconnect of some sort into a bluetooth radio? tough hardware hack to say the least. Wired is comparably easy, I would need to probably look up what it would take to get a keyboard driver set up in a device that small, but at least i could take apart an existing keyboard to look...
Not sure that's the easiest though, as it requires me getting the resistance right across certain parts to fake the analog motion of the keyboard. I think that it might be easier to drop a microcontroller in, although i'm not convinced that one is easily going to fit, and I'm really not that interested in printing my own board.... =_=
I guess that the cool thing would be that if I used a microcontroller i could start to use the computer as a head unit to control other stuff. hrm.
A rage button would be much better. Whenever you get cheesed and have to gg out, you punch it and it does something like punch you back in the face or whatever, so that way you stop raging after you lose.

I think it would be funnier if it was an "Idra" button where it picks a random Idra rage quote each time you press it, types it and leaves the game without a "GG". Of course it would have to constantly be updated with new ones and royalties could be given to further support Idra. :D

if you havn't noticed this is a chat macro. And using a extra keyboard isn't frowned upon aslong as it doesn't give any unfair advantages and a external keyboard with one button isn't a advantage. as for leaving the game you would just need to press it 3 times.
Or you could just GG when it was actually a good game and just F10>N when it's not?
TBH I don't really see the point off saying GG after every game. In tournaments, sure but every ladder game? I really don't see the point.
What really gets me is when people GG only to follow it up with "you cheesy faggot" or something which is basically saying "you played good" followed by "you played awful"

Bluetooth or some other wireless technique would definitely mean the most awesomness, but it would up the price too much so I think USB would be the overall best choice. Perhaps a BT version for those who already have a BT receiver.
I have no clue really but it seems from an earlier comment you're the one who made the "original" button? If so and you have the means to make this happen I would totally like to work with you on it
Also for those who suggest different uses for it like rage and stuff; it would hopefully come with some customization software with perhaps presets and the option for the user to program it however s/he wishes
The problem with this is that roughly 1/3 of the SC2 community **Cough Z** has learned how to press F10-N within .0000001 seconds of them knowing they lost already, so why bother moving your hand to a huge button which takes more time?
Haha I'd like to have that too. It'd have to leave the game as well, though. So you can just slam it when you're done with it.
Isn't it possible to ask Blizzard whether this is allowed? I mean, as long as you specify in detail what it does i'm sure they could give the green light, if they don't they're pretty sad.

Does it do anything other than shout GG? No, it just shouts GG. It has 4 colors and 4 audio themes though, with more to come.
Does it let me record my own "GG"? Nope, but it will in the next free update.
I actually really love the idea, but I realize I can just reprogram one of the keys on my keyboard to do that anyway lol. Still though, it would just be awesome to be able to smash an actual gg button on my desk and be done with it.

As seen on Machinima Respawn, used be Sark. Such as in this video:
It may not encompass the needs of everyone in this thread (especially in game chat needs... unless they implement voice chat), but may just be what some people are looking for.
