Where's the beef? According to a class action lawsuit filed by the Beasley Allen law firm out of Montgomery, Alabama, it's certainly not in Taco Bell's "taco meat filling."
The "seasoned ground beef" contains less than 35 percent beef - the other 65 percent of the meat-like mixture is: water, isolated oat product, salt, chili pepper, onion powder, tomato powder, oats (wheat), soy lecithin, sugar, spices, maltodextrin, soybean oil (anti-dusting agent), garlic powder, autolyzed yeast extract, citric acid, caramel color, cocoa powder (processed with alkali), silicon dioxide (anti-caking agent), natural flavors, yeast, modified corn starch, natural smoke flavor, salt, sodium phosphate, less than 2% of beef broth, potassium phosphate and potassium lactate.
Whew, did you get all that? Oh, there's also caramel color and natural smoke flavor added.
Taco bell was my favorite fast food and the beef grilled stuff burrito is amazing. I think I will only be getting chicken products from them now as the lawsuit contends that the chicken and carne asada have been tested and are what they are claimed to be.
No wonder their meat tastes so good though, it's all salty and sugary.

What do you have against oats?

its tilting how companies always find ways to sell u less meat. Like its common practice to fill chicken with salt and flood it with water so u pay water at meat prize. Just gotta nitpick ur meat better I guess.
|
Nobody who has eaten Taco Bell's beef thinks that it's real beef. I mean come on, it's the grossest thing on the menu by a landslide.
Bean Burritos all the way.

I just hope carl's jr is like that because I seriously love the beef there more than any other place. I'm going to look into it.

Some of the articles have really cleaver titles "Taco Bell Accused of Not 'Meat'ing Standards." "Lawsuit Claims That Taco Bell's Meat Is Indeed a Mystery" "Taco Bell 'beef': mostly not beef"

Is that a problem? I mean, when I make tacos they aren't 100% beef, they're probably 90% beef and 10% filler. I realize the ratio is off here, but the top ingredients are still food. Oats, water, chili, tomato, garlic, etc.
I don't eat there often, but I guess I just don't see the issue.

In unrelated news, the USDA requires beef taco filling to be at least 40% meat to satisfy requirements.

Think about it this way: You can enjoy meat in abundance while saving the lifes of 65% of else doomed cows.

hmm... yeah i never expected the beef to be truly mostly beef. i mean i still ate it because it tasted good, but i didn't expect it to be all beef. if i want cheap nasty but tasty fast mexican food, ill get my taco bell. if i want real stuff, ill go elsewhere or make it myself.
but at least it's confirmed.

I fully expect a product labeled "beef" to be at least like 51% beef.

A guy about ten years ago who worked at Taco Bell told me the boxes of beef actually said "Beef flavored oat product" or something on them. But I was never able to verify this and thought he was making stuff up. Guess not.
Does it really matter, though? Did you really eat Taco Bell because you thought you were getting beef or did you eat it because it tasted fairly good and is dirt cheap? Surely you're not upset that the quality of Taco Bell product isn't quite what you thought it was.

Its the fact that many stupid assumptions like this are so common that is the cause for so many lawyers and silly class-action lawsuits like this one in the US
Edit: I just realized you are the OP and I'm wondering if you know what "yo quiero" means xD

Fuck, I thought Taco Bell imported their beef from Mishima. Then made it super cheap cause they are just a kind-hearted business. Not cool Taco Bell.

Come on you ate it before you got informed, so the food is perfectly fine according to your own standards >.< Dont blame taco foods, blame yourself.

Well I think the lawsuit is kinda pointless, but I think it might force taco bell to put up a little asterik that says "beef contains XX% beef product. More details upon request" on their menu and commercials somewhere.

No, I did think that what I was getting was at least like 80% beef though. I do understand why their prices are so cheap now. I will still go there probably, but will get my chicken burrito instead, even though that grilled stuff burrito is truly amazing.
