I just got Sennheiser HD650s and they sound amazing. I'll be selling my old cans soon so I can support a better desktop amplifier. :D

They were way uncomfortable and sounded really thin to me.
I really wish MP3 files didn't exist. Or at least, anything below 256 kbps.

Ya it's a real tragedy to have double the battery life playing 192VBR mp3s on a DAP than FLAC for exactly the same transparency.

I just opened up my etymoic mc5 in-ear headphones and I like them a lot. The sound isolation is far and away the best I've ever tried and they sound great. I recommend them if you're looking for good middle-/low-end in-ear headphones with ridiculous amounts of sound isolation.

Gonna get a TurtleBeach HPA2 for christmas!

anyone knows about the Sennheiser HD280 PRO? 99$
|
I have them and I absolutely love the HD 280s
Very comfortable, but can be tight when you first put them out. They seem very sturdy (I've only had them for 3-4 months), and isolate you fairly well (excluding bass of course)

Ehh for 99 there are better options. I've had mine for 5 years now and upgraded to the AD700's and it's leagues better. The 280's are closed compared to open, so if you need more sound isolation then that's obviously a better bet. Overall though I think the soundstage superiority and comfort of the AD700s make them better in that price range.

I dunno, it depends on what you're listening to, how much ambient noise there is, and what you're listening on, etc. I've encoded a couple CD tracks at different bitrates before, and there were definitely a few oddities I noticed in blind tests at lower bitrates, even 192 kbps, without top-end playback equipment. Some are maybe a little jarring even if you're not trying to listen to the artifacts. With synthesized music, bad recordings, ambient noise, or any type of disturbance, I agree that I wouldn't sweat the small differences though.

thx. i need some headphone closed with minimal leak. And ive been reading a lot about HD280 and people say it doesnt have bass. Is it true? The AD700s is a good choice? My budget like i said is 100$. thx
|
You definitely want closed headphones--not the AD700--if you want minimal leaking. The HD280 has bass and good isolation, but there are other good (better?) options too. The bass according to some is a little rolled off, but there are much worse offenders than that. I just can't think of many alternatives at the moment for some reason, other than a used/discounted Audio-Technica ATH-M50, or a Sony MDR-V6 maybe (less than $100).

Hey guys is anyone here using the Razer Moray ? Im really thinking of buying for my on xmas ^^ http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169418600/categoryId.35096300 I think I have really nice knowledge about mice but not about Audio so I need some help. 1. Have they clean sound ? This could sound little bit dumb but I bought 3 weeks ago really cheap (2,50euros) earbunds just because they were fancy and they got it in blue and red but I LOVE LOUD MUSIC I LOVE IT ! and yea they cant handle it :x 2. What is the difference between Razer Moray and Razer Moray + ?
Thanks
|
I have heard that the moray's are decent for the price, but I do not know the difference between the moray and moray+. What are you going to be using these earbuds for btw? If you're using it for gaming/ just inside your room it might be better to get headphones instead of IEM's at that price point.

HD600
Although the 650 and 800(i think) are slightly better, in terms of smoothness of sound i find them best. If you like alternative, classic or anything that dosent involve huge bass(rap&hard rock), i would strongly recommend them.

I've had a pair of audio technica's AD900 for about 4 years now, and there are 3 primary reasons why I love them to bits:
1. Strong, punchy bass that doesn't overpower the mids/highs 2. Excellent build quality, and the comfort with the floating suspension/ low pressure design are still by far the most comfortable i have EVER tried. Seriously, the impact is so low i've been known to stand up from my computer chair and rip my headphone jack out because i forget i'm wearing them. 3. For the quality vs cost, if these headphones were released by a brand starting with 'S', they would be double the price.
The open design suits me, as i don't have to worry about roommates or anything, and to hammer in the point about comfort again:
I watched a lord of the rings marathon a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't have my speakers blaring for 9+ hours. Wore the headphones for the last two movies, and there was no strain on the ears, zero pressure on my head that is so common with a tight banded set of headphones, and no neck strain (they're very light).
Was and still am a very happy customer. One of the best purchases i've ever made.

So it's christmastime and I'm in the market for a new pair o' headphones. My wonderful Sennheiser HD280 pros are finally crapping out on me after at least four years of heavy use -- I have to struggle with them minutes at a time in order to get sound out of the right ear, and the slightest movement ruins it again. Time for some new cans, then! I'm the kind of dude who likes to try out different things instead of sticking with the same-old, so let's try something new. I can spend up to $200, and was wondering if you guys had any thoughts.
My requirements: -Looking for something portable. I take my headphones places. I loved being able to fold up my HD280 Pros and put them in my bag, as I tend to want to listen wherever I go.
-Must be sturdy. I realize that this often doesn't go hand-in-hand with "portable", but I tend to be a bit careless with expensive things I own. For me the cord is usually the first thing to go -- wherever it plugs into the device just gets twisted over time to the point where the connection is just no longer made. So, a hefty cord would be nice. I'll probably sleep with these on, ride the bus while listening, stuff them in my bag, drop them occasionally, tangle the cord horribly into what could be mistaken as a tentacle pron monster, etc. Just to give you an idea.
-Can't make me look like a freak on the bus. Yeah, I care about aesthetics. Sue me.
So far, the set I'm most intrigued by are the Audio Technica ATH-WS70s, which look pretty, supposedly sound pretty decent, and fit in my bag. The only thing holding me back is that I'm not sure I want my bass as big as these supposedly pump out. I listen to a bit of everything, so balance is nice even though heavy bass is cool. I'm also a bit skeptical of phones that are "on-top-of-ear" as opposed to "cupping ear", though I suppose it doesn't matter as long as they're actually comfortable for long stretches of time. I really really dig the overall design of the things, I'm just not quite assured enough to take the plunge. Anyone have some experience with them? Any other suggestions?
Any and all help / ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

I've been using SR80s for a while now, however they broke on me (The wire had given, so sound would frequently cut out in one or more of the ears). I was very sad when this happened, but it was an excuse to look at more headphones! I had settled on the ATH-M50s, eagerly awaiting their arrival
|
@Node: I'm a total noob at portable headphones, but while you're waiting on better advice from someone else...
A little poking around seems to indicate that people think the ATH-WS70s are not that comfortable, and I am not reading ringing endorsements of the sound quality compared to the price. According to here (link in Japanese, but the frequency response graph in the middle needs no translation), the bass is fairly big though.
I'm not sure what the alternatives are though. It's hard to get portable headphones that are comfortable, preferably around the ears, with good bass.
