I DJ all over, perfect for that but also awesome for any type of audio. Closed, but not heavy on the head and comfortable when worn for for hours on end. All parts are replaceable too, but I think that's normal for Senn's? Oops spoiler cos I'm noob and can't resize... + Show Spoiler + ![]() Amen, DJ knows what's the best :D. Had the same for more years than I can remember, replaced once the earpads. While the DJ up there seems to know his stuff (I respect anyone with an HD-25), most DJ's use overpriced junk from Pioneer or some silver Sony headphones. DJ's have very little concept of sound quality, they seem to prefer loud. Anyway, I am thinking of buying a Stax SRS-2050 set. I heard the 404-LE's from a higher-end Stax amp as well, which to me was the best I have ever heard. The Omega 2's might be even better, but honestly I could hardly imagine. I would love to get my hands on a set of those baby Stax SR-202's, and I am trying to sell my Audio Technica W-5000 and Meier Audio Arietta to finance them. Anyone else have any experience with these Stax? Nice to be respected. Only bad thing I can say about them is that they don't look as good as other headphones in the same price bracket. Everything else is pretty close to perfect. Sound, comfort and being closed so they leak almost no sound and also take in very little noise from the outside. (they do eat through mp3 player batteries like a beast :D (70 ohm is not to be played with.) I've had mine for over 6 years now. And I changed earpads about 2-3 years ago and it seems to be time to change them again. By the way aren't Tastosis using HD25 + mic when casting or are my eyes playing tricks with me? PS. I wasn't sure how to vote, I wouldn't say these are midrange but I don't have a separate amp for them so... ![]() They do use the HD25's. It's a different version with a mic attached that a lot of sports commentators use.

Don't blame the file simply because you're unable to hear a difference. It does not mean that the difference is not there. Thanks. Anyways, if you're listening to music on headphones for the first time, it doesn't really matter what you get, because you have no reference. Once you've listened to a few headphones, then you move up a bit, notice a difference (or not), and decide whether you want to continue. Don't blindly go into buying several hundred dollars of headphones when you don't need it, or can't see the difference between them and cheaper headphones.

I had a look at the wesc bongos and like the look of them but apparently the sound quality is pretty poor. Any tips or links would be really appreciated! Thanks! After some research I just picked up a pair of Grado SR60i's. From what I have heard, the sound quality is amazing for most people (mostly rock listeners), however they aren't made with an eye for portability, and sound leakage may occur at higher volumes because they are open ear headphones.

I'm mainly gonna use them on the go for music and movies, so closed back and noise cancelling is preferred. Also, good build quality would be nice since I always seem to break the cable or something, so only one side would work. Any suggestions guys?

@buhhy: By noise canceling, do you mean active noise canceling? Active noise canceling is pretty rare, it makes things sound worse anyway, and it's usually only good for constant noises. If you don't need active noise canceling, think about the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. Normal price is around 110-130 USD I think, so hopefully that's in the price range. It's fairly rugged and folds up. Sound quality is good for the price, according to many reports. @jambam: dunno about Denon, sorry, been meaning to try some. I think most of the Denons are not known for sound isolation, at least compared to most closed headphones.

320kpbs CBR or VBR is the highest bitrate for mp3s. 256 isn't bad either. edit: misread your post.. best way to get high quality music is to download FLAC/320kbps mp3s. Try to get an invite to a private music torrent tracker like what.cd. Or just use demonoid/piratebay and/or warez-bb.org forums, but it's not as easy to find high quality downloads from there.

I have a couple of porta pro's and I'm quite happy with the way they sound but what would be a good step up from there? I mostly listen to edm but also a fair amount of old rock etc. to this guy akg k240 studio, 99$ usd right now, they have the same driver as many of the more expensive AKG headphones in them, they sound freakin awesome, worth more than 100$ for sure. ![]()
