Could somebody please link me to some of the best <200$ headphones off of amazon? I like to listen to all types of electronic music, classic rock and some hip hop. I like how the BOSE AE2 has a detachable cable attached to the cans so that if the cable gets stuck in my chair the headphones don't break. It'd be cool if any of the links have something like this to protect the headphones Thanks whoever takes the time to do this!

Also, is there a way to tell what sound card i have in my computer? Could somebody please link me to some of the best <200$ headphones off of amazon? I was talking about amplifying the onboard audio. For future reference, on a side note, "trash in, trash out" and double amping tend to be misunderstood a lot. + Show Spoiler [side note] + Suppose that one device has high distortion running headphones. This doesn't necessarily mean that it has high distortion when instead connected to the line input of another device like an amplifier. A line input has an impedance of thousands of ohms, so it's a much easier load to drive than headphones are. A trash output (for headphones) can be a good output to another amp. Once you connect an amp, you may no longer have "trash in", so to say. If it was the source's D/A that sucked, then there's nothing to be done though. It's also very possible that the amp output will clip at a given volume setting into headphones, particularly low-impedance headphones, but not when driving a line input. Anyway, double amping is often not such a big deal because even poor amplifiers are okay at driving line inputs. Depending on your perspective, you can think of the insides of mixers and other pro audio gear in the studio as having dozens of amplifiers inside—something recorded in the studio passes through a pre-amp and all sorts of other op amps and devices, so that's double / triple / whatever amped already. Most of the degradation in the audio chain comes from the headphones or speakers anyway, and maybe a bit from the amp driving them (since that one has by far the hardest job), or a really sucky D/A. People tend to ignore or misunderstand that the load makes a huge difference. They just think about Amp 1 (how bad it is driving headphones) and then Amp 2 (driving headphones). When you connect Amp 2 to Amp 1, then Amp 1 may no longer suck nearly as bad as when it's responsible for actually driving headphones. That was an interesting read. Still stand by my point to get a FiiO E10.

I do wish people would stop posting things like this. Imagine going into a watch enthusiast thread and saying, oh I have this 5 dollar digital watch from the flea market and it tells the time fine. Wat?

So far I have read through about 1/4 quarter of this thread and it seems that many people recommend the Sennheiser 555 or its newer model the 558. I look on Amazon and I could not find the following information: How hard does the headphone press against your ear ? From what I read in the thread here the headphones are differenciated between open and closed as far as if they let people in the room hear what music you are hearing. My questions is now, does closed headset always mean that it that its pressed very tightly to your head ? If so is the 555 / 558 one that presses the headphones very tightly to your head ?

Obviously your best option would be to go to pretty much any major electronics retailer and try them out for yourself i have yet to come across a decent store which does not atleast carry the 555/558.

From what I read as well, people often find the AD700s lacking on the lower end of the spectrum. Never tried one myself though so take what I say with a grain of salt.

This is almost exactly my experience. You can get some decent bass using an EQ, but I find it just a bit lacking, and I am by no means a basshead. It is however amazing in the mids and highs though, so you kind of have to decide whether the low price and great soundstage are worth the lack of bass. That being said, I'm not a true audiophile (read: I haven't spent at least $10,000 on headphones), so take this with a grain of salt as well, though from what I've read this is a pretty common attitude.

With their impedance of over 100 ohms rofl, they won't sound nearly as liquid without.
