Obviously it's not as simple as that, but hopefully you get the picture.

I don't need them now as I still have my Sony MDR-XD200s, but when the warranty runs out I will be looking for a new pair. Probably going to look for some HD428s, and if I can't find those i'l just look for some other over ear Sennheisers. Is that half of $250 = $125 for headphones or is it half of $500 = $250 for headphones? I think it's $125, but that's still way more than HD 428s cost. Do you need closed-back or is open-back (and thus non-isolating) okay? Currently Sennheiser HD 555/558 aren't particularly priced well, and there's plenty of alternatives to many in the HD 2xx and 4xx range.

Basically its for gaming / general music listening. I want to be able to hear which direction footsteps are coming from and that bass dropping in my pendulum! It also needs a microphone Pref not detachable, i hate those things. I have about..idk say £120 as a rough estimate to spend can go up or down really, not much of a problem (although i dont want to start pushing £200s) I just want something that is going to give really good sound quality, last me a while, fit on my head comfortably for hours on end :D Not much eh? ![]() Also would i need a sound card to get the full benefit? Put that into the equation too if i do. Thank you :-)

I don't really know about cheaper headsets (Steelseries, Razer, random gaming oriented crap) to recommend anything cheaper. I want a pair of headphones (obviously, since I'm in this thread). Now, I understand that more expensive headphones will need an amplifier of sorts and so I've though about getting an ASUS Xonar Essence STX sound card which has an amplifier for headphones. Is that a good choice or is it better to get a dedicated headphone amplifier? The STX card costs about 200 bucks here in Sweden so that's a good chunk of the budget. For the headphone, I've looked at Beyerdynamic DT880 and Ultrasone HFI-780. I've also glanced at some by Audio Technica. The Beyerdynamic is supposedly very good at everything but bass where it's kind of lacking. The Ultrasone is, to my understanding, better in this regard which is why I've thought about getting that instead. I listen to a lot of electronic music where bass may be something that I really want but it's hard to say how lacking the bass really is in the DT880's without actually listening to them myself. Don't know anyone that has a pair of any of these though and no retailer in town sells them. Do you have any suggestions for me, any tips or anything at all? Am I thinking right or not? Thanks.

For electronic music the Denon D2000 is a beast, however you should buy it from amazon or something (since hifiklubben is really expensive). Pair it with a decent dac/amp (like audio gd sparrow ver. A) and you're set for a long time.

[Edit] I tried to look for them on amazon and they can be found there for less than here in Sweden except the ones selling it won't ship electronics worldwide. Is there another site than amazon that sells them? Also, looked for the amp/dac that you recommended and found this site: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/Sparrow/SparrowEN.htm How exactly do I order from there? : D It's quite the weird website. Can I perhaps order from someplace else? Will look around a bit more and will edit out any questions that I find the answer to myself.

You just have to send them an e-mail. Read a little on the site and then you can ask question to them. They have bad english but they are really nice ![]()

It isn't very clear how it's done here or I'm just stupid (can't leave out that possibility, it's way too big). Oh, and btw, thanks for the help! I appreciate it.

HP dv6tqe Quad Edition Core i7-2670QM, Radeon HD 7690M 2GB, FREE 8GB RAM, FREE Blu-ray etc etc etc Now I want some headphones to go with it. I don't want to spend more than 150$ for them. I'll be using them for gaming and some music, but not a lot of music. I'd also like them to be able to plug into my iphone 4S. --Thanks guys

It isn't very clear how it's done here or I'm just stupid (can't leave out that possibility, it's way too big). Oh, and btw, thanks for the help! I appreciate it. I'm not really a fan of Audio-GD's design philosophies and practices (intentionally altering the sound and anti-feedback audiophile marketing BS tactics that rebel without basis against well-established theory, for example), though it's fine if you're sure that's what you want. There are plenty of alternatives though. You can often pay hundreds on gear with lower fidelity than a $30 sound card. Arguably the device with lower fidelity might sound better in some circumstances to some people, as audio preferences are a subjective thing of course. What kind of games (is a good sense of positional audio important, or not)? Any considerations like thick glasses, preferences on clamping force and size, etc.? There are some tradeoffs involved with these things. If you want a random decent suggestion under $150 that may or may not be appropriate, try the Shure SRH840.
