Unfortunately, these are nowhere near the same price range. Like 300% the price, or is it that much different where you are?

Nothing yells "no" other than the fact that you have a typo. It's STX for the PCI Express version and ST for the PCI version.
Both have around 10 ohms output impedance, which is a problem when driving say multi-balanced armature IEMs and potentially an issue with some headphones, but definitely not for high impedance headphones like the HD 600.

Hey guys I use crappy LG Rumor earpiece for my 64gig i touch and I need some boom. I am thinking FiiO e11 for 64$, Shure SHR440 (75$) or 840(140$) whatever is available. I understand there is a sale on US amazon exclusively so I am having their asses shipped to eastern canada. Might grab a crap mike or earpiece microphone too. + Show Spoiler +http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Microphone-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=pd_rhf_pe_shvl5
This whole frankenstein of an order is gonna supplement my varied music collection and will be completely portable and i can bring it home and game to my hearts content. Does this sound about right to you headphone enthusiasts? Do you suggest the Fiio 5 or 7 instead?

FiiO E6 seems better then E5 and E7 in terms of amplification to me. It uses the same op-amps as the E7. Technically though this doesn't mean that they sound the same; there are people claiming that they sound even better then the E7. The E11 is just the amp portion of the E7.
$30 CAD is an awesome deal for the E6. It's worth it even just for the equalization let alone the amplification. I personally can't tell if the E5 makes a difference or not, doesn't seem worth it to me either.
Now that the LCD-3s have been shown at RMAF I hope they'll be a nice drop with used LCD-2s. Been meaning a pick up a pair of those but I can't afford brand new ones...):

No, E11 has AD8397 output, not the same as the TPA6130 chip amp powering the output of the E5 / E6 / E7. That doesn't necessarily make it better though. The only thing for sure is that the E11 has a higher max output power than the E5 / E6 / E7 as a result.
Always take RMAA results with a huge grain of salt because of the bugginess and lack of very many important features and capabilities, but here's a comparison of the E5 with the E6: E5 / E6 - 16 ohms, 32 ohms
I'm not claiming to hear what you hear, but this makes me skeptical that the E6 is significantly better than the E5. (But note that the E6 has a bit higher gain in normal mode than the E5, so that explains the mostly worse performance. With higher gain you're going to have higher noise level at a given signal level, and other things are tougher.)
The typical modern iDevice has an integrated headphone amplifier that's not bad, just limited to about 1V output. That's enough for the SRH440, SRH840, and most headphones that most people buy. I don't think getting a relatively cheap portable amp, would be an improvement. This is assuming you don't need or want a hardware EQ setting or whatever other feature the amp may have.
E7 is potentially useful at home if whatever sound card (integrated or not) you're using is no good, since it's a DAC + amp. i.e. if whatever you're using on the computer sounds worse than the iPod, then you can match or improve on it by using the E7. E7 integrated amp is about as good as the E5, just slightly better, so not worth using as a portable amp with a iPod. edit: but if you were getting the E7 for that purpose, the new E10 (or maybe...something that's not a FiiO product, not that FiiO is bad) is probably an improvement over that if you don't need the portability.

PCI is older, and modern southbridge chipsets no longer support it natively. The PCI slots you see on new motherboards are run through a bridge chip. However, because of the prevalence of a lot of old PCI expansion cards, the standard is slow to die.
PCI Express is the newer (current) standard, so if you have an option, that's what you want.
Unless it's a graphics card, a PCI Express card will usually use only a 1x slot.

Hello TL community,
I found this thread and thought it is the right place to ask for help.
I'm looking for a new pair of headphones which will be used for gaming, listening to music (all kinds of music) and i want to use them with my mp3 player/mobile phone.
Do i need a headphone amp?
I wear glasses so the pressure on the ears shouldn't be too high.
price: max 150€
Thank you for your help!

So much fluff on my headphones >.<

I have about $100 to spend, what are some good headphones to get? Are the Shure SRH440's good? Any headphones people recommend?

Quick guide for Desktop Headphones Grados - Rock and Roll sound, More music inclined. Bright with punchy bass and very forward midrange.
SRH440 - Excellent Closed Headphones in its price range. Very good if you need isolation but most open headphones in its price perform better
AD700 - Recommended mostly for Gaming because of its wide soundstage (almost surround sound-esqe). Music wise favors classical and ambient music.
M50 - Bassy headphones. Recommended if you want more 'doof doof' than what the 440's can give

Can anyone suggest anything in the range of the Bose ae2's? I want them to go around my ear and id rather have balanced sound than a ton of bass.
I've owned blackbox m10s and they were alright. The sound was a little quiet and i want something a little warmer. Im new to headphone terminology so i dont know if the bose cans are open or closed and what kind of sound they produce. In the price range of 150 USD, I want phones that are plain and simple like the bose headphones (around the ear, dont need to be super portable, and a removable cable would be nice!), but from what i've read there are headphones that produce better sound quality for that price.
I want something in that price range, but as all of you surely know, bose is overpriced so if i am going to pay that much for bose phones might as well get something better in that price range that still offers exactly what I want, right? Well with so many different brands/models out there it is hard to find exactly what I want so I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction!
Thanks in advance.

Open means non-isolating, like sound intentionally leaks right in and out almost as if you're just wearing a set of speakers right next to your head. Most larger headphones consumers are familiar with are closed.
Shure SRH840 is a popular closed model in that price range and seems like what you're looking for.
edit: AKG K271 as well, but those are relatively quiet.

Can anyone recommend me some headphones between $100~$200USD that has a mic on the cable for handsfree? I commute a lot and I usually have my university notes on my lap. It's impossibly hard to hold my phone to my mouth whilst wearing conventional headphones.
I tend to listen to a lot of classical and solo pop singers. I like the sound of a good acoustic guitar too.

ooo i like the akg's and they are more in my price range than the shure phones. Do you know about the sound quality? I know the Bose Ae2s have decent base and a well rounded sound. I listen to some bassy music but I would rather have a balanced, fuller sound. Thanks!

Has anybody used the Razer Electra's? They look interesting but I can't find a review anywhere.

so since this thread kind of convinced to go with more high quality audio, via the sennheiser HD558, forgoing getting something with a mic included, can anyyone recommend me some type of clip on style microphone to ggo with it so i can still talk to people via skype and vent etc?
something in the ~20$ range. im only looking for a recommendation because i would kind of like to get something of fairly good quality, yyou know so the mic doesnt sound awful and have people yelling at me to just throw it away rather than use it
a PM would be most effective and appreciated.

I just bought a pair of klipsch s4's from a private seller from amazon (38$ used) and the sound can get pretty fuzzy/scratchy in the treble bass range. I can hear some very light popping here and there... they're probably fakes right? Is there a surefire way to confirm this? I've already checked for some of the obvious signs on the klipsch forums and my pair have passed thus far, but the aforementioned defects(?) can get pretty annoying -.-".

I wish I had found this thread earlier...
Anyone here has any experience with the RE-ZERO? (http://www.headphiles.org/index.php?topic=569.0)
Bought this 2 days ago, awaiting on its arrival. Will use mostly at home, I used to only use headphones but since I have a habit of watching stuff laying down and the headphones are just terrible for that, I'll try some earphones this time.
I have no idea how they will perform when playing games, though.
