I used to think wikileaks was a good thing.

The problem with these leaks anymore coming from Wikileaks is that they have established themselves as biased when they released the helicopter gun footage with an editorial attached. I hadn't really followed them previously so I suspect that wasn't the first time anymore but still from that point on I really can't take them seriously anymore. I suppose if you know what their bias is you can work with it. But I feel like something like wikileaks should be straight up a dumping ground for documents no matter what they implicate.

To be fair to Wikileaks though I have heard that they released a lot of information that contradicts their own narative.

Wikileaks isn't a technology through which to indiscriminately publish documents. They're an organisation with stated goals that they actively pursue, so yes, they'll editorialize.
Why you would see this as bad is beyond me, as well. Every single news outlet has some set of principles they follow, whether this is articulated honestly or not. The Washington Post's coverage is way slanted to neo-conservative ideology, for example. That's unfortunate, but you can still read the stories and decide for yourself if you find them valuable. Wikileaks is quite a lot better in that regard, as they do publish the raw data (or at least, they'll do so eventually). Similarly, feel free to make up your own mind on if you consider those legit or not. Any statements by Wikileaks are completely irrelevant at that point.

Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

Realize that this Redlist isn't an actual Warrant for Arrest, because they can't do that for the current charges, but a notice to "inform police about his whereabouts".

Hrm I wonder who might want that information?

I'm glad the America has the Interpol in there pockets too.

It is a warrant for his arrest issued by Interpol at the request of a Swedish court, and it's under "sex crimes" whatever that may be.

WikiLeaks founder Assange suspected of sex crimes

Interpol has issued an international warrant at the request of a Swedish court for the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in connection with alleged sex crimes.

The Stockholm Criminal Court last week issued an international arrest warrant for Assange on probable cause, saying he is suspected of rape, sexual molestation and illegal use of force. Sweden asked Interpol to post a "Red Notice" after a judge approved a motion to bring him into custody.

Wouldn't be suprised if those sex-crimes accusations are merely made up by US in an attempt to make him loose public face and therefore stop him and his organisation.

Of course, you could never be certain, but it's one possibility.

From BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11880965

In another development, Interpol issued a "Red Notice" on Tuesday saying Mr Assange, 39, was wanted for sex crimes.

The Interpol notice is not an international arrest warrant
but the public is asked to contact police with any information about Mr Assange's whereabouts.

I know it sounds like an Arrest Warrant. I would imagine thats the point.

The charge was dropped and then changed to a less serious accusation, one they couldn't issue an arrest warrant for.

But apparently Interpol needs to get involved. lol

A single, domestic case of consensual sex with not even close to enough evidence to convict of even minor sexual harassment?

Time to get Interpol on the case right away!

Not really, the rich don't need to be reassured that their sociopolitical situation won't change so long as the government processes remain hidden. The poor don't vote in appreciable numbers and already know they're fucked so there's no need to pander to them.

The rich appreciate the status quo and hate anything that could threaten that.

The poor tend to be more poorly educated and thus the sort of people who buy into Fox News and want the WikiLeak people to for treason.

Interpol issues a Red Notice when the originating country (in this case Sweden) requests that they do. It is required that there be a legally issued arrest warrant and that the request not be made for political reasons. There are currently 446 outstanding Red Notices involving a "SEX CRIME" (the crime listed in Assange's notice). In 2009, Interpol issued 5020 Red Notices.

Interpol does not actually do anything except coordinate information between those nations who wish to participate. Think of it as a message board for the investigating authorities of each country. Interpol's involvement is par for the course when there is an outstanding arrest warrant for a person who has gone missing/fled the country, though that says little about the motivation for the original arrest warrant. But there's no reason to conclude Interpol's involvement is nefarious.

Interpol is not the super police who are only "involved" with extraordinary cases. They pretty much get "involved" in felonies of all sorts if extradition may be involved.

I lean towards the opinion that Wikileaks has lost its vision with these new leaklets.

The State Dept. is tasked with maintaining peaceful diplomatic relationships with the rest of the world and these leaks really undermine the trust that it has with the foreign heads of state. I don't understand why an anti-war group would want this at all. I think it's clear that anymore, Wikileaks is in it for scandal and a sort of twisted authority they've found that they can have over one of the most powerful governments in the world.

There's nothing in the cables that wasn't already known by every relevant country. Their goal is not to be solely anti-war; it's that, but it's also being anti-authoritarian, and breaking down the ability of powerful governments to communicate in secret helps. Governments habitually say one thing in private and one thing in public, and this is another step to force the media and such to discuss the issues as they really are.
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.
