I believe the NSFW tags are working as intended and exceeding its expectation. I don't see why there is need to change.

Yes. Pictures are preloaded when in spoiler tags. Reading ftw.

Yes I did read that. I just don't get why it matters as long as you don't open the spoiler. Are companies going to see that pic got loaded and somehow you get in trouble for that?

I don't think many people work at places that would have such stringent monitoring. I always figured the NSFW was more for so if someone walks by they don't see a naked chick on your monitor in which case NSFW spoil tags suffice.

And isn't it just firefox that pre-loads the pics? Use a different browser. I mean I understand the purpose of this I just think it's going to annoying to have tons of threads start with NSFW now.

Plus think of how we won't have the stories of how people are like "shit the cute secretary just walked by and saw a naked guy on my screen, fml."

What makes you think that? Anyway, some people, including me, work in places where the entire internet traffic is monitored and in countries where porn is a criminal offense that get's you thrown out of the country or in jail.

I dunno, I guess I figured people with "real" jobs couldn't browse TL so freely.

I do not understand the concept of NSFW tags in general. "Not safe for work" would be viewing or doing anything not directly linked to one's job duties. This site would most certainly fall under that category for just about any sort of job. If I were an employer, I would not be any more pleased to know that my underlings were wasting valuable time and resources reading a gaming site than I would be if they were openly watching pornography, unless viewing this site could somehow be justified as advancing the company's interests.

I think your definition is the problem. I believe "not safe for work" is used to mean "unacceptable in a public place." You could even add "if you want to be respected" to the end of that if you like.

I have no idea where you get these ideas from other than that you haven't worked a real job before. Everywhere I worked so far using the net there for private use was fine within certain limits. Porn being outside of these limits.
I don't get what's even to discuss it's not like TL is breaking new ground here. We are just making official policy what is commonly agreed upon on basically every community website on the planet.

Thanks for informing us! Sounds like a completely reasonable set of rules. I was actually under the impression that NSFW content wasn't permitted at all, and there are certainly plenty of community sites where that is the case, so I don't think this is overly restrictive at all.

I assume the "placing them in spoilers is no solution because some browsers preload images in spoiler tags" rule is to protect people whose employers (or other authorities) monitor all traffic from false persecution? Very smart.

I'm glad this has been done. Teamliquid is the center of foreign pro Starcraft, so it's good to keep it respectable. It's not exactly ESPN yet but we want to be getting there.

Lol at the NSFW video at 1:32. Look at the guy's computer in the background.

I know this is irrelevant, however it's an issue that I think should be discussed, especially when there are mods looking at this topic. I opened a topic about google chrome and it's issue with loading flash objects, particularly flash embeds on this website. This causes a major surfing problem, as you need to open a different browser and paste the URL every time you want to view a VOD.

hot_bid told me to "please use google" and closed the topic without further discussion.

I did, before posting the topic, and I found little discussions here and there about a similar issues, but I found no in depth or definite solution. I saw "re download the flash player" several times. I did that, and I'm still having the same issue with flash embeds (including streams).

I bring this to the attention of the TL community because if I'm having problems with chrome, a now very common browser, then other users are bound to have similar problems. I chose to post the topic to find a solution for not only myself, but for the whole community. Also, there are others who are more knowledgeable about technical troubleshooting than I am, and the collective findings will be valuable.

So I ask again, Is anyone having similar issues? When you open a TL front page article which includes embedded VODs, do they show completely blank? Does this piss you off? Tired of switching browsers and just want to use the simple and safe Google Chrome browser? Would you like to fix it? Lets talk about it.

I highlighted the relevant part. I *KNEW* before I even hunted for your thread, that I would find absolutely no mention of your prior efforts to google a solution, and I was absolutely correct.

The problem is, it looks as if you did not attempt to seek out your own solution, but rather, came here looking for an answer on a silver platter. Threads like that are highly frowned upon, and essentially, instantly closed. With good reason.

Several years ago, we had an epidemic of 'homework help' threads. People would literally post their homework questions, make no effort to figure it out on their own, and expect an answer. Hell, some people got angry if they received an explanation of how to do it, rather than just the straight answer. Since then, we've had a bad taste in our mouths towards the "can you just give me an answer?" vibe.

Now, if you had explained in your original thread, like you did here, that you attempted to find an answer on your own but were just stuck, your thread would have remained open just fine.

Spoiler tags use javascript. If you change javascript settings from being automatically enabled, it won't load the spoilers.

This is not true, spoilers will still be loaded.

lerjars: Many many people use Chrome and you seem to be the only one who has this problem. In any case, you are the first one who is complaining. What's there to discuss? Fix the problem on your end. Apart from that why would you post that in here, a thread about a new NSFW rule?

Hmmm, if you disable javascript all spoiler tags won't do anything if you click them. So displaying it definitely uses javascript. But I checked the headers, and the images are indeed loaded. That's kind of bad design. If the script itself outputted the forum code, there would be no problem.

Just put it inside the onclick handler, which already exists.

Some utilities:
Image block add-on. Just toggle each page to load automatically or manually. Smart idea if you're on a work computer.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5613
Or in firefox go to Tool-Option-Content-Exceptions (to the right of Load images automatically).
