There's no way you can be that good and stuck under 100k ranking unless you don't know what gives points. You only need to get like 30-40pp scores i think to get well past 100k. If you're FC-ing anything, even non-insanes then your rank should fly.

Well, I honestly didn't know until I looked it up today. Probably really stupid of me to not take the time to figure out how the game works, but I just downloaded maps, played until I beat them, and then repeated with harder maps. I've never played for FC, I think I've gotten an S on like 2 songs T_T

Will go back to some of the easier songs I've beat and try to FC though, hopefully that will boost me up.

So I've been playing this game on and off for over a year, but I've never worried about rank or how good I was in comparison to others. But after browsing this thread a bit I'm now curious. My overall rank is 177461, which from what I can gather is pretty much bronze league lol. I'm playing ~4.5 star maps and have beaten a handful with AR9, but only with about 85% accuracy. Is my assessment of bronze correct, or is there more I should take into account.

Also going to start participating more in this thread and perhaps take the game more seriously. Using keyboard/mouse atm

I'm rank ~55k and I can't pass AR9 maps ='(

36k and I can have a hard time with Ar9 above 4 stars. Same boat. You can still somewhat farm ranks, although it isn't as bad as the old system.

Yorbon, what do you usuaally watch for when you spec others? I did that a few time, but I don't really get what you can get out of that like a replay in SC2 or Dota 2 if you're good enough to analyze them.

Timing and aim consistency for the most part. Although spectating isnt really perfect, you can still catch a lot of hints as to what are the weak points of the person playing. If i see someone miss at certain patterns over and over again, i'll mention that to turn their attention to these patterns. Same with timing; you can hear if one's timing is decent, or very bad. Especially at rythmically more challenging parts, the difference between being able to manage those patterns and not being able is quite apparent via hitsounds. Also, someone with good aim will go straight to the goal (the next circle), while a person with worse aim will make his cursor go inefficient ways (for example a curve instead of a straight line). Also, (easier) sliders are often only crudely followed by beginners. That's also a hint towards aim problems/deficiencies.

Because spectating isnt perfect, conversation with the player is key. Does he recognise what you see? If he does, you might have a point. If he does not, at least it gives the player stuff to think about. Most of the time (if the skill difference is large enough) you're right though..

edit: I never really watch my own replays though. I think it's key to realise what you're doing when playing, meaning you're able to identify what went wrong when you miss/get a load of 100's, while playing. Learning to be self critical on the spot is imo a very important part of improving.

I see. The timing you're talking, is it the hit error bar at the bottom when it is enabled? Asking to be certain because I usually rely more on my sight to do well.

Also, I never knew you added me for quite a while after I saw mutual friend

Anyways, seems like the problem I have with streams is that I don't alternate fast enough. It may carry me for low BPM like Lily - Marie-Luise, but most maps above 4 stars are usually 150+ BPM.

Then it is really definitely not alternating fast enough for streams. Usually, it starts out at center or a bit to the left then it goes straight to the right side.

iirc for streams, the right means you are streaming too fast so you need to slow down the clicking.

If you're more than a little bit off for streams, it can fly to either side because the keystrokes go to circles that you didn't intend for them. It's best to slow down until you can get somewhat stable

Can you hit this? I don't think you could hit this. There's no way i could do it on mouse~~~

<3 <3 <3

i am so happy, the ability to use equivalent of ~300dpi (comparing to a mouse on a 768 height osu window) and reach around the screen like this

There's only one smaller circle size. HR cs7 (cs9.1) and i feel like i could spam it and get an FC run, but it wouldn't be nice, clean and accurate right now. This is already so many levels more than i could have hoped for though - it's amazing :')

This is my first try, so not really good. Keep in mind though that ive been awake for 5 minutes (lame excuse) and that these are the smallest circles i've ever played in jumpy situations.
I had to correct a lot of my jumps during the jump itself due to not being used to it, causing to miss the next note or grip problems. So i definitely have to work on these kind of things to get it to a normal level.

edit: 2nd and 3rd try were 85 and 87, so im going up, albeit slowly.
Edit2: 2nd and 3rd try i saw the part you played in the vid, I always miss the second note in the left top corner (the circle closest to that corner).

Well i'm like rhythm illiterate and I'd like to think I'm not that terrible at this game >.> so if I can do reasonably well then that means you will probably do a lot better.

Hm, i'd say taking pros as a reference is not really a good start, tbh.
If you don't have a lot of time on your hands and still want to play, i think it's best to get some songs you like and try to become familiar with the way osu works. Just playing will then be enough to get you into being a decent player, provided you're doing your best a little. By decent i mean understanding the basics. Getting further into osu (in terms of rank maybe 10k and up, and in terms of skill being able to A most insanes without too much trouble) probably requires significant time investment.

Most important part, though, is just having fun. Osu doesnt have to be as competitive as some people (like me >.>) think it should be.

Yeah. Personally I feel that focusing on rank kills all the fun in the game to begin with. I don't understand how people can sit there and retry a song 50+ times just to get that slightly better score, or how people can mass play godawful trainwreck maps just for the PP.

Honestly i dont have a problem because the best way to rank up is to have fun. Sure, the fastest way for me to get 5k ranking would be to go out and farm it - i could do it right now, i only need easier scores (like 150-130pp) to pad out my ranking, but that won't make me a ton better in the long run. Fastest way to sub-1k is to enjoy my play time so that i actually play more.

I don't think anyone really spams out maps that they don't like, there's always another map just round the corner that gives the same amount of PP that you like

I restarted this ~500 times, which was only actually like 1-2 hours iirc, to get fc with 0x100 on this part just as forced practice:

but it was still fun and felt good to hit

Yorbon could you take a look at this? Not sure what i'm looking at (timing bar on first half)

finger desync?

also, anyone who says this map isn't worth like 160pp for a ~97% fc is wrong

Unfortunately i can't find the map. I do know it, and have played it a lot, but i lost all my maps a while ago and i cant find this one. ):

I'm not really sure what problem you're referring to. The miss stroke seems to be aim-related, as your cursor speed seems to vary just before your misses. This also explains you missed everything, which is highly unlikely at (only) rythmical mistakes, especially at normal od's.
In the song in general it seems your timing is good enough to get good accuracy, but it still varies within the blue area, which means that your timing is not good enough for higher od's. The more variance in the timing bar, the less consistent your timing is. (but i'm sure you had figured that out yourself...)
If the song is od8, your timing is decent. If it's od7, i think i'd probably pay some attention to timing, by playing higher od songs/editing songs into higher od.

That's not what i mean

^not how timing bar is supposed to look? I'm getting half of my hits earlier on the bar than the other half, it's not just "a bunch of hits scattered randomly" but "a bunch of hits 5ms late, then a gap and a bunch of hits 15ms late" for example

It's od7, but that kind of timing is exceptionally good for me on such streams. Previously i was unstable to the point of patterns like that not even showing up - point is now that it's more stable, there's a pretty clear pattern of.. hmm

It feels like i might be alternating fingers like:

1---2----1---2----1---2----1---2

instead of

1----2----1----2----1----2----1----2

Did this earlier

nice to combo that part @~1:15-1:25

i know timing was bad, but i'm faster and more consistent than before and better at reading too

also my hands are confusingly ugly on camera
