new game mode osu mania Pretty fun except the difficulty vs 4key 7key is too large former being too easy/boring and latter way too hard haha Like they need to make 7 key maps that are easy so I can get used to the control/button finger orientation 4 key is pretty easy because I play stepmania/FFR

You can play any number of keys on any normal map just using that mod to pick what you want to use. That's how I got comfortable with 7-key.

I was not happy when I saw that because I knew that it would create a dynamic where players thought 4k was inherently easier than 7k and vice versa. 7k might take a little while to wrap your head around, but the actual physical demand of 7k isn't bad until you get to the top level of difficulty. EDIT: this wasn't directed specifically at you, your post just prompted me to bitch about it. I listed off some mania maps earlier that you might want to check out. Entozer, Chonicle, and DJPop all have ranked (well, Chonicle's Sweet Rain just got deranked, but it might be re-ranked by now) charts with a difficulty spread. Entozer has a few charts with easier diffs as well. Don't be intimated by 7k. It does take a bit of time to associate the keys with your fingers properly, that only makes sense given that you have nearly double as many as 4k and a more complicated setup (middle key, etc.) As for key setup If you want more, I have a mediafire with o2jam conversions. Quick rundown: See this: [e1 n2 h3] in front of the names? That tells you how hard each difficulty is. E N H = easy normal and hard. The numbers are o2jam level numbers and it's hard to really explain them. Start low and keep trying them till you find a range your comfortable with. It's not completely accurate. I can pass some level 30+ charts in o2jam and still fail some in the low to mid 20's. All the conversions here use OD5/Drain5, so they're very forgiving. If you want an idea of how it is playing them in o2jam, jack it up to Drain 9. (OD doesn't really matter, because o2jam's timing windows are huge, higher OD will mean you get a lower acc, but won't really make them that much harder to pass/fail) There's no preview music, and some charts are missing part of their music. I'll be updating that once the converter is stable and works properly. If a chart there is off time, it was not sync'd properly in o2jam before the charter released it. Unofficial charts are usually harder but Kuliner's easy difficulties range from 8 to 18, glenn joseph's cover a wide range starting at lvl 1, ruby/apenix has a few easier diffs, all proguy's easies are between 5 and 10. There are also a few easier ones in the misc folder (but some of them may be bad maps or off time).

edit: and I just assumed 7 key is harder than 4 key because well theoretically you can put more notes at a time in 7 key than 4 so I just thought at the higher difficulty it would be harder

After playing this game a ton for a few months having read very little about advanced strategies/explored very little of the competitive community, i have some random questions. Do the majority of top players only play maps to get the highest scores? I've only ever found myself playing hard maps and trying not to fail, while not caring at all about my score. Are there maps that even the best players struggle to pass? (without mass mods) Is there anywhere i can find a list of "staple" beatmaps that are recognized as very good and competitive maps and are around my skill level? (i can beat most insane maps, but i usually get like a C or a B). If you had to rank me into an SC2 "league" equivalent for osu, like gold platinum etc, what would you put me in? Also my username is Xebeche in case it's relevant

Are there maps that even the best players struggle to pass? (without mass mods) It really varies per player. There are players in the top 100 that only got there because they abuse the ranking system. Then there are also players that are ranked far below their actual skill, simply because they don't really play a lot of ranked maps or don't care about perfecting their scores. None is better than another, it's simply what you find the most fun in that matters. Uhh.. the monthly ranked charts are usually pretty good as a start. just download a couple of those and you'll be fine for a while mappack list. Once you've played a lot of maps you should start looking at who made the maps you like and download more of their work. This is really hard to say with just looking at your profile lol... I guess you would be gold from the looks of it. I do like your taste in beatmaps, looking at your most played list. Wahrheit, Manima ni, What I found, Remote Control and Dear You are great maps!

Also my username is Xebeche in case it's relevant There are a few maps even the top players struggle passing/struggle getting FC on. The most popular example would probably be Freedom Dive [Four Dimensions] and more recently The Creator [Nyaten] (for FCing, mostly. Maps that pros physically can't PASS are rare). Besides the first 1 and 2 top ranks respectively, there are no high scoring FC's. A lot of maps that pros don't have FC on are absolutely ridiculous though, and are out of the picture for 99% of the player base. These maps often are not ranked (approved probably) and many are not even meant for a single player to tackle (eg. TAG 4 maps). It's quite difficult to rank you because an Insane map can have a huge variance in difficulty. I would just recommend downloading beatmap packs and finding maps that suit you. Eventually you have will a big enough compilation to practice on/realize where you really are, and can hopefully try to find other related maps that way. You can also go on multiplayer and try to find maps with difficulties that suit you. I did the same and I'm satisfied with my collection of songs right now. I know there are many players that don't play osu! standard and there are those that don't play "competitively" enough to pass Insanes, so I'm going to guess you would be around Platinum. I wouldn't really worry if this estimate (by me or others) is accurate or not though; like SC2, there's a huge variance of skill in the leagues.
