The crashes, I can't do anything about. The main sound issues I've noticed are: some will have certain samples that are really quiet. Some will simply not have sound at a certain point. Both of these may be fixed with the new converter whenever wanwan fixes his hitsound handling. (It should be able to handle hitsounds correctly with the new osu v12 file format coming and allowing custom hitsound filenames.) Mania mappers you should follow: http://osu.ppy.sh/u/djpop (no idea how often he'll be doing mania maps, but he has a history with djmax, ez2dj and o2jam) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/entozer (pro as fuck o2jammer and mapper, active in #osumania) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/ishimaru94 (o2jammer, no idea how much he'll be doing, has worked with rubythespammer) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/chonicle (good mapper, active in #osumania) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/doorknob (converts IIDX charts to 7k, they're hard though, active in #osumania) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/[IIDX] (converts IIDX charts, doesn't speak much english) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/NekomataMaster (O2jammer staff at o2perfect, responsible for this) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/hinarika (no finished ones ATM, decent mapper though I think) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/Sp3ct3r (o2jammer, i chat with this guy a lot, pretty good mapper active in #osumania) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/Lieselotte (good mapper, doesn't know much english) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/diamdiam (converts IIDX charts) http://osu.ppy.sh/u/hanyuu (good mapper, active in #osumania)

Am I wasting my time practicing on maps that osu generates from standard maps? How accurate is it at replicating the style of these games? I havent played any of the mania maps because I havent found any songs I like yet. I've just been grinding on 5 star hards with 7k mod on, but I've noticed that I can play lots of 5 star non-mania maps pretty easily, but I can't even pass most 'hard' and even normal maps that were made for mania.

The autoconversions are not even remotely close to a real mania style map. I wouldn't say you are wasting your time, because practicing on them will help you learn to hit the right keys when you see a note coming, but the patterns generated in the are absolutely horrible, and don't look anything at all like real mania maps. Check out these maps: https://osu.ppy.sh/s/71255 https://osu.ppy.sh/s/73883 https://osu.ppy.sh/s/65365 https://osu.ppy.sh/s/78512 (still a WIP) https://osu.ppy.sh/s/63089 I think all of those should have difficulties you can play. If you're looking for more, check out my mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?qsk9mqzkx45eg In the main folder are a bunch of o2jam songs I've converted. There are some issues with them, and they're from an outdated version of the converter tool, but they will at least give you some more to practice with. The first part of the filename tells you the difficulties in o2jam levels.

Like, I can pass the hard of ChaiN De/structioN pretty easily but I can't even get past the first verse of I Like You, I Love You on normal lol . I can't read chord/slider patterns at all... Guess i'll spend the weekend working on these, thanks!!

Luckily for you the best option is to play anything. At your level it is more learning about how to react to basic patterns and increasing accuracy/speed. Just find songs/beatmaps you enjoy and play them.
