Do you alternate for EVERYTHING or do you tap with like one finger for the slower stuff, like little runs + holds and stuff, and then use both fingers for triplets and streams?(obviously kind of have to for the last two) Main reason I'm asking because once the "slower" runs start to become pretty damn fast, it gets hard to keep up with doing just the one finger for that stuff, and I'm having a ridiculously hard time adjusting to not doing that, cus it's obviously not as efficient and can hold you back once you start to play faster songs. And I've noticed that quite a bit. I guess one example would be like for gold dust, at that speed do you guys use both fingers to hit everything or do you use one finger? Because you can get away with one finger(like I do) and it can work fine, but if you start adding triplets/streams inbetween the little runs(like some harder songs) it'll start being hard to keep up with switching between one finger + alternating for triplets/streams. Then the extreme of this would be like look at chipscape, you kind of HAVE to be able to do everything with both fingers if you want to be able to combo the majority of it. Like the single note runs inbetween the streams are almost too fast to do with one finger unless you tense up your (fore)arm and then you'll loose speed when you trill with your fingers. And this is kind of what I want to combo but I'm nowhere near the twofinger control needed for that, and it's insanely hard to switch over cus I'm so used to using 1 finger for everything not streams and triplets. Dunno what the point of this post was, just venting a bit how it's a pretty bad habit to only use one finger like I did and having to adjust once you can't do that anymore at some faster songs.
I use one finger for single notes on the beat, and 2 fingers for everything else. This means I use 1 finger for almost the entirety of gold dust. I can only hit with 1 finger at about 180bpm, so songs over that almost instantly become nearly impossible for me.
I don't really care about being able to do every song though, so I'll never practice 2 fingering single notes, but it's necessary for faster songs.

I use 1 finger in gold dust on everything that isn't a stream. Haven't really had any of the issues you mentioned on maps like this. Only time I alternate z/x at non-stream situations is at maps with 250+ BPM like http://osu.ppy.sh/b/123374&m=0 or http://osu.ppy.sh/s/28561 I guess you should just play more faster maps till you get the hang of it

I can 1 finger up to roughly 210 BPM 8th notes. At that point it's hard, but still doable for shorter periods of time, I will eventually get tired at 210. Anything like doubles or triples I will always alternate, but other than that, the pattern itself affects whether I 1 finger it or alternate. Something like say Slider-circle-slider streams, I always alternate. But 8th note circle over slider, I won't. I'll alternate when a circle is a 16th under the end of a slider, etc.
I'm actually kinda random on when I alternate and when I don't, but basically it goes by feel. If the song feels too fast to accurately 1 finger, I alternate, if I feel like I can get better accuracy with 1 finger, I'll do that.
Sometimes I switch between alternating and 1 finger in the middle of 8th note streams, too. I also find that when there's a stack under the end of a slider, or something like a deathstream with a repeating slider in it, I will sometimes use Z for both the slider and to begin the stack under it, which can sometimes backfire, and is awkward. I hate starting streams with X.
I wish I had a video of me playing, it would look weird.
Also, I felt like I was going to fail this, but after failing a few seconds in my first try, I managed to pass it. It's nice that I can seem to keep finding songs roughly this hard. Gives me a chance to improve a bit more. + Show Spoiler +

Yeah, will do @ abuse.:D I guess it also alot comes down to speed control if you want to be able to combo stuff like chipscape and renard songs(fast streams with shit inbetween). It's cool how you have such good knowledge of your speed bobbias, I have no idea where my limits are in terms of speed etc.:D
Currently working on Lily - Scarlet Rose, holy wow that song is fast. Good thing you can actually just trill and as long as you're following along with the mouse then you'll not die(because of how holds work). Feels like a cheat pass if I would pass it, but the ending is way too nuts, it speeds up even more like last 20secs.
Was working on that song too Bobbias, but I can't come anywhere near your accuracy on it, can't even break 90+%. Fun song though!:D

I used to alternate everything when I played with keyboard, but switching to tablet tap pretty much forced me to improve my singletapping speed because alternating tap and x can become pretty hard to coordinate on spaced 1/2 beats (1/8 notes). It's really just about practice, play lots of doubletime and you will get faster. When I started tapping, I could barely manage 200 BPM singletaps, nowadays I can pass Scarlet Rose with tap only (320 BPM, effectively short spaced 160 BPM streams) Singletapping is also definitely more accurate if you practice it because your brain doesn't need to coordinate two fingers. That's not to say that you can't achieve amazing accuracy with alternating, it's just harder to keep a constant rhythm without messups.

Might not be as accurate, but you got a much better combo, lol. It's gonna be quite a while before I can get a 300+ combo on that song.
Part of the reason I know my self so well is because I've been playing music games for years, and to me, learning a new game isn't as big a deal as it is to someone who's never really played one before, or never played one seriously before. (I started stepmania 8 years ago, and have played O2Jam, Beatmania, DJMax, and Guitar Hero/Rock Band/DJ Hero too)
Having played Stepmania gave me a huge leg up for learning to ZX, since those were 2 keys I used when playing my stepmania spread layout. In SM, I was able to manage 240BPM 16ths. Not well, but enough to survive anything less than the most abusive tracks.

Gave a shot @ bamboo dance aswell awesome song btw, loved it

Oh, and Void, I'll agree that single tap has the most potential for accuracy, but unless you get REALLY good at single tap that doesn't matter anyway... But yes, I do sometimes stick with single tap specifically because it's easier to time, but I have too much trouble tapping really quickly to get that accuracy, so alternating on stacks and stuff is still better for me right now.
The fuck. How did I do this? + Show Spoiler +

I'm not saying you should singletap everything - I just do that because alternating hands can be confusing. While many people choose to 1key slow streams (like 110/120 BPM) I still like to alternate on those because it's more fun. My point was mostly that with a bit of practice 1key can become really fast, so alternating absolutely everything instead of at least attempting to singletap might not be the best idea - as I said I used to alternate everything and my accuracy was pretty poor back then. Really fast stuff (like Scarlet Rose) or long streams should usually be played with alternating buttons even if 1key is possible, if only to conserve stamina.

Nice night tonight, played a bunch with abuse from this thread.:D Got so many new hard songs tips from him, very nice! Got nothing special today except for one song which was a decent enough pass.
+ Show Spoiler +
edit: @Bobbias yeah, I basically just played stepmania a bunch as music game history and got pretty decent at it(youtube "tenox stepmania" if you want to see some stuff, it's not self promotion cus I'm not an active youtuber:D), definitely helps for doing streams. Alot of trill speed is left from those days in my fingers.:D

Gah, nice pass on that. That song was far too much for me to handle.
I don't have any footage of me in my stepmania prime :/ Never did pass FotS, but I was able to pass the challenge/oni difficulty on Salieri Strikes Back. I passed Quasar at 1.4x once or twice.
I'm surprised everybody decided to try their hands at Bamboo Dance lol.

slipped on that slider at the very end -.-;;

I hate coming home so much, I can't get my arm angle as low as I need it to be, so I have to wait 2 weeks to be able to play osu comfortably...set up should not be as important as it is.

bit sloppy, but i've finally FC'd it n___n;

Well, this session turned out rather well.

Was expecting to beat my previous best, simply because I could probably pass it now. Wasn't expecting to actually beat it all around. + Show Spoiler +

Time to quit mouseonly forever, wooozy too good.
I'll just be a generic tablet player now thanks :3

Fingers hurt so much after this. My wrist is destroyed. So many triples. On the bright side, I can almost pass it.

Will upload a video whenever I can find a decent solution for encoding this stuff. (the current video is 4 files and 13 GB, and that's not even the resolution I play in)
EDIT: Woo, beat my previous best.... With a lower max combo. lol. + Show Spoiler +
Another "Beat my old best". I hit one section and did kinda shitty and then recovered, otherwise this would have been even better. I could definitely do a bit better on one of those random fluke runs though. + Show Spoiler +
