So, thanks to Testie (;D) I was able to get my hands on some of the Touhou games, and I've liked it a lot. It's certainly a lot of eye candy and incredibly difficult on Lunatic difficulty, but this is all about the Shoot 'em up games. Then I finally stumbled upon Touhou 7.5, the fighting game by the name of Immaterial and Missing Power. I am truly surprised that this is a doujin (fan-made) game, because it truly is on par (or even better) than games like MvC and such. Seeing as how I've been busy with stuff lately and a game of DotA has seemed virtually impossible for me this week, I've been fitting a match or two of IaMP when I'm breaking, and I realized there's a lot more to the game than I initially thought, and it actually has a pretty competitive element to it. Also, they integrated an English patch for people to understand wtf is going on, and there is also a netplay program, both downloadable from http://iamp.mizuumi.net/index.php/Main_Page. So if anyone is interested in some online IaMP matches or any other Touhou game, feel free to ask.

woah what? I could fight you online in a touhou game? :O
Social Justice is a fools errand. May all the adherents at its church be thwarted. Of all the religions I have come across, it is by far the most detestable.

You might want to play the second one then, Scarlet Weather Rhapsody(10.5), if you liked the first one :3. A few of my friends and I play that game, so maybe you and I can get online games going :o.

I'm so bad at these games.
I'm much better at normal Touhou.

I can't get into 2d fighters for some reason. Soul Calibur and, to a lesser extent, Virtua Fighter were the only two franchises I ever really played.

Also, I've been playing Mountain of Faith and Perfect Cherry Blossom for while now. Such fun games, I'd recommend them to anyone. Mountain of Faith feels as though it has smoother control. Perfect Cherry Blossom seems to run at a faster pace, yet the bullet patters aren't as tight as MoF. PCB seems just a touch easier (on normal), so it might be a better to start with.

Bleh, I personally thought MoF was pretty bad compared to 6-8 (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Perfect Cheery Blossom, Imperishable Night), it just didn't seem the same and it was a lot easier. Not to mention, it used a new system for power ups, bombs, and lives that a lot of fans didn't really like. Though, 11 (Subterranean Animism)kind of redeems the series, apparently 12(UndefinedFantastic Object) really brings Touhou back to how it was, looking forward to its release.

EoSD, PCB and IN are the best imo.
Touhou 9, Phantasmagoria of Flower View is designed for multiplayer but it's not working very well.
MoF is bad
SA is very very good.

I've cleaned all of these in normal (hard EoSD and IN) and also cleaned their extra stage.
I'm currently working to finish PCB in hard and PCB phantasm mode (it's like super extra mode).

Strange, I found PCB easier than MoF. It took me a couple weeks to get to Stage 4 on normal in MoF, then the first session I ever played of PCB I reached Stage 4. Of course, I did use a continue or 2, but I got past stage 1 and 2 totally unscathed on my first run. But I guess it depends on which setting you play on. Plus, the fact that MoF was the first TouHou game I ever played made the learning curve steeper I guess.

There's a lot of controversy over this, but IaMP is objectively the better game. I would say SWR is better casually, though.

Consider that in Japan, which has more offline tournaments than you can count, it's harder to get a 32-man SWR tournament set up than it is to get a 64-man IaMP tournament.

In terms of the shmups, ease is around this:

Imperishable Night (If you've never played a Touhou game before, this is a good way to ease in)
Perfect Cherry Blossom
Mountain of Faith
Subterranean Animism
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Shoot the Bullet <--Fuck this game

Obviously, depending on what bullet patterns you're comfortable with, the difficulty can change, but I would say that's pretty accurate.

MoF is ridiculously broken. You have an infinite amount of bombs and they are insanely powerful. Just learn to dodge the last pattern and you can one-life it easily. One of the girls is broken too, Marisa B kills all the bosses in just a few seconds if her power is 3.xx...

This game is so fucking hard.
I've almost cleared level 8, but it's ridiculous.

Harder =/= Better

Things like what flandre mentions, along with the removal of gameplay elements like graze and power-dependent Point of Collection detract from the experience in MoF. Fortunately, graze returns in Subterranean Animism (and good grazing gives PoC like collection, which somewhat makes up for the fact that you don't have to have full power to have PoC).

I've gotten through Perfect Cherry Blossom and Imperishable Night on Lunatic(that is, using all my continues and getting the bad endings because I'm crap, but eh, what can you do.) I've never been able to give Scarlet Devil a chance because the production values sicken me.

MoF really put me off, the feel is just different and the stages/bullet patterns didn't really interest me as much as the previous games. I finally gave SA a try though and I'm working on beating it now, although that mostly consists of me dying on the first or second stage repeatedly.

~Also, I have it on a rather unreliable source that the Touhou fighting games are a joke. I should probably give it a try and form some sort of valid opinion, but meh.
