* It is no longer possible to create Loan contracts. Furthermore, existing in-progress loan contracts will become invalid in January 2011 as a part of a major Contracts refactoring. If you have a loan contract in progress you are encouraged to complete it before the end of this year to avoid any possible inconvenience. Welp. I guess I'm never coming back to EVE.

I guess you've never played WoW before. 8 hour maintenance every Tuesday regardless of patches. Patches usually result in 16 hour downtimes, occasionally running on and on endlessly. When the servers finally go up, they end up lagging like a BITCH and take a day or so to stabilise. This is my first ever patch in Eve and it is a dream.

Decided that we would head down towards Weld, an old missioning ground of mine in lowsec. Why mission in lowsec you say? Well it was not long ago I was little more than a liability to our war targets near home and I was trying to train myself to actually pay attention to local/scans and the like. But I digress. Anyway the reason to head down here is that there is a particular corp, "The Humbleless Crew" that live out that way and were a pretty big thorn in my side during my missioning there. Now that is all fair, that's what comes from running in lowsec. They never managed to get me but I did have a few close calls, and the obligatory comments in local ensued about "do you ever get tired of running?", "This is our space" blah blah etcetc. These guys were chasing a 2mil SP char out of mission pockets and feeling pretty good about themselves for it, well, they had their glory and I decided that if I ever had the chance I'd get mine. So on to the op. Kwark mentioned we were going to go poke around in lowsec and that I would be FCing with full reimbursement privileges, no pressure. So we started in Teonusude and made our destination Weld. The first few systems were pretty bare, Bosena was busy as it always is but there was not much going on that we could have gotten in on. Nothing through the next approximately 5 jumps as well. Kwark was scouting in his Rapier on WP and I felt confident that if there was an opportunity he would make it known. Egbinger was empty and we poked in to BVIP long enough to see local empty as well. Starting to get discouraging. As we got closer to Weld we acquired some company. A few fleet members noticed that there was a cloaky Pilgrim following us but we didn't think about it much. We got to Weld, which we found relatively empty, and decided to circle up around Osvetur and make the loop back home. It was then we caught two more pilots from the same corp as the cloaky pilgrim spike local as we consolidated on the out gate. This was great work by our guys noticing this because within 10 or so seconds they were on us on the out gate. They had Scimitars with lots of force multiplication and I passed fleet command off to Kwark as I am very inexperienced with actual fleet tactics and I'd like to not have everyone die to that. The situation was managed well and Kwark had us draw agression from just about all of the enemy fleet before jumping through the gate and executing a burn off the gate behind the cover of his Rapier's amazing webs. This would have gone off without a hitch had Johnny Business been on vent and known what was happening. He returned fire on the opposite side of the gate and was unable to warp through when the call was made, donated his Harb when we could have escaped cleanly from a FAR superior fleet. We successfully disengaged with the exception of Johnny and regrouped in the next system. We made the decision to continue on the roam, having dodged that bullet. As we pushed on we ran in to the pilgrim again 2 jumps later with the rest of the fleet holding on the other side of the outgate. We made the decision to jump through in to the camp with the plans to perform the same maneuver we had before again. I failclicked and broke my Rifter's cloak a few seconds after jumping through, which I frantically crashed the gate and tried to get back through. This was not smart of me and I barely made it back through. The fleet successfully disengaged behind the cover of the Rapier once again on the other side of the gate and we took no losses and again escaped a far superior fleet which was showing some impressive coordination. We decided we'd not push our luck any more and turned back to head home the way we came after that. We got back in to Weld and...surprise, a pirate Humbleless pilot is in local. We come through and he shows up on a gate with us about 50k off in a Cynabal. We got a point on him but he promptly turned to outrun us and bail out when Penguins showed up with the Rapier and locked the shit out of him.at this point we pointed him up and started pouring on the DPS. Capqu got in to structure before we finally broke the tank but kwark showed up and "finished the fight" in his words. I'm not sure about "finishing" the fight but he maintains that the presence of his Drake ended the fight. Even though he was at 20% armor when he showed up, we'll let him have that one like we do every one. Anyway, fuck yeah, vendetta fulfilled, the trash talking corp that runs 2mil SP noobs out of their mission pockets in lowsec and pounds their chest over it just lost a 300 mil Cynabal. But it got better. We headed home and 2 systems later we ran in to the same Humbleless pilot again, this time in a Hurricane. We found him on a gate, he warped through, we gave chase. We got a point on him on the other side and Penguins busted his webs again as the Cane tried to burn back through. I did not engage and instead took my Rifter through the gate just before he was able to jump back through. I was barely able to land a point on him before he warped out on the other side and the cavalry poured through the gate and finished the kill as my Rifter went down. A 500k isk loss for a 300m Cynabal and a 50m hurricane. Fuck. Yes. At this point, for me, the op was over. I flew home in a shuttle with a big banana grin on my face for what we had done there. It may not seem like much but I've only been in this game for 40 some odd days, that was awesome. Wow, so this got a little lengthy. It was my first op so I decided I'd be comprehensive. In the coming weeks I hope to get a better feel for different ships and their roles in a fleet, fleet composition, and combat maneuvering as I have incredibly little experience in all of these. Thanks to everyone for coming out. Kwark, Karah, capqu, as always great to fly with. Phisp was a new guy on his first op in an Incursus and did a great job following the orders of the more experienced pilots and was a contributor. Good to see new guys proactively getting out there on ops, same as I did. Sorry for the long write up, I figured I'd be comprehensive on my first op, hope it was interesting. It certainly was for me. Looking forward to doing this some more. =] Edit: obligatory KMs from the kills mentioned. http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11848565 http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11848861 And Kwark having some fun on the way home. http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11849481 http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11849482 http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11849484

I obviously finished the cynabal fight. We spent like 3 minutes grinding against it and messing around while the damage dealers tried to get into a position to engage (because the entire battlefield had move about 110k) and the battle ended about 4 seconds after my drake finally got in on it. Also a great call by Orandos not to tackle the cane after Capqu called point on it. We had four guys in position, a drake with a shortpoint (essentially useless for gatetackle but can force the deal once a fight starts) on one side of the gate and the rapier, ares and rifter on the other. Once the ares called point he couldn't warp away and the rapier meant he couldn't burn away either. Instead he attempted to burn back to the gate and jump back through where anyone aggressed (rapier and ares) wouldn't be able to immediately follow and the waiting drake wouldn't have been able to tackle. Orandos demonstrated excellent situational awareness to recognise that if the cane didn't burn back he was fucked anyway, there was nothing to be gained by throwing himself into the fray but by showing restraint he was able to jump back through with the cane, tackle it on the far side and hold it in place for long enough for the drake to get a secondary point and then clean up. If I'd been on the ball FCing that engagement I'd have said something like "whoever gets the point call it, the rest hold". I let that slip through but the guys beneath me had enough experience and discipline to execute it perfectly anyway. Basically, when impetuously joining the fight would have let the target escape he didn't enter the battle but when his restraint rewarded him with the position of sole tackler on the cane he held it down despite the certainty of losing his own ship.

If its playable, I might give the game another shot I swear I probably have something like 3 super low level accounts (like 2-3 month playtime on each) but I just can't get into the game for whatever reason. I love open pvp games (first MMO I really got into was Shadowbane) but EVE's huge learning curve just rapes me... even when I started a new account with a few RL friends a few years ago. Well chances are I'm going to pick up the WoW expansion when it comes out to play with RL friends and if it sucks, I'll probably pick up EVE if it's playable on my craptastic laptop. /edit each time I quit because I got tired of getting raped at T2 missions. I outfit my ship and blow all my gold according to forum posts/guides for running T2 missions but I still get instant raped if I try them on solo. Also the time I retried the game with RL friends... there was like nothing for us to do together since we were newbies and we gave up after playing "together" (lol more like solo) for 2 months or so.
