Makes it hard to want to play PvP when I know we're just going to get raped -_-.
The thing is, do they really suck, or are they just outmatched?
Playing with level 10-40 republic vs 50 pvp geared empire isnt a fair match, and you will get pulverised regardless.
Ive had many games like that on empire where we are simply outmatched and get crushed.
Then ive had games where everyone is batshit retarded and yeah, its awful.
I even get told to "Shut the fuck up, we're doing what we want too" on the pvp on alderaan just by saying "we only need two points to win"..k then -.- Its not like you'll get just as much action holding mid or anything

I've been struggling to get myself going with swtor but i'm still unsure why. The game it's self seems to operate pretty well. One of the factors for me was I wasn't sure of an end goal, it didn't feel as if enough skill was required in the game. After watching the video from the poster i quoted it got me that raid feel again, so I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on a few things for me.
Firstly, what are the end game raids like? Do they require much skill? That boss shown in the video looked very cool but it was difficult to tell if any of it was that hard apart from the jumping which i think would just come with practice.
Gear. Whats the end game gear like? One thing i always enjoyed was starting off as a low level looking a bit worse for wear in mmo's and gradually building up gear to look the part. Do the epic's (or equivalent) look decent? I know the lower gear looks pretty cool but can you tell the difference between someones gear who hasn't done any raids to someone that has?
Meters. Has anyone any idea if any sort of dps/threat meters are going into the game? I know some people feel they ruin an mmo but I think if you use them right they can be a really useful tool and way of judging and improving yourself.
I just hit 50 the other day, so i havent done any raids yet, but i can say one thing for sure. Some of the 50 flashpoints have some of the most creative and technical fights ive done in an mmo.
Most of the wow dungeons the boss's are tank and spank and the ones that arent can be if your geared enough. None of the fights are really that hard though.
I did directive 7 last night and none of us knew the fights really, they were really complex though required alot of strategy and moving around. It was the most fun ive probably ever had in a "dungeon" in an mmo before. Even some of the lower level dungeons have great fights.
At level 25 there is mandalorian raiders which certainly isnt a walk in the park. Fighting the boarding party especially in that fight was quite interesting.
Also i remember in wow, i never bothered with dailies because they seemed like such a chore for what they gave you. In swtor dailies are actually pretty fun, they have normal daily quests which you can do on your own then 2 and 4 man heroic dailies which need a half or full group and its basically like a mini dungeon (although some of them can be quite long) Between that and searching for datacrons and matrix cubes, plus all the different combinations of matrix cubes. I just feel like i have so much to do at 50 its daunting. To me it feels like more than ive ever felt when i hit top level in wow (i dunno if it actually is more but it feels like it)
As for the gear, i have seen some pretty unique sets. Watch some of the character progression videos to get a feel for how your gear will look as you go through the levels.
Smuggler:
Sith Warrior:
Bounty Hunter:
Jedi Knight:
So far ive really been enjoying the boss encounters , well have to see how the raids go but for the flashpoints its been a hell of alot of fun.

Also what level are yoou, because i found everything to be pretty easy until i hit tatooine and then the mobs started getting alot harder and encounters where actually hard.
Dont even get me started on the "lightwell" Class quest for smugglers, almost impossible to do alone lol.
And it wasnt just me throughout the course of me being on tatooine there were so many people in general chat commenting on how much harder the mobs had gotten. Ive heard people complaining in the general forums even about how their are too many strong and elite mobs. I dont share that opinion i like the challenge but after the level 25 the game does get quite a bit more challenging.

Hah, thanks for posting those -- I've just been reading the thread out of mild curiosity and wasn't all that interested in the game, but seeing some of the progression footage it does look pretty cool. I loved the gunslinger part, I clicked on the video thinking that "smuggler" doesn't sound like a very interesting class, but after watching it I can totally see the appeal of basically being Han Solo :-D
Thanks for all the replies regarding my questions, i still welcome more
It seem's these some very positive views coming out, though i suppose being realistic it's less likely someone not liking the game would be reading this, but still it's good to see people actually enjoying themselves. It's actually encouraging me to get back on it.
My character is 29 and i've ran mandalorian raiders, but only recently and it was actually really fun especially that i did it with a bunch of friends.
I started off pretty fast and got to 25 pretty quickly compared to most on the server but my willingness to play dropped and i found myself spending more time on other games. I played wow for years and know how questing works and some of wow i love questing in other parts i don't. I found the questing in swtor to be a bit dull in parts and i think i was in one of these dull lulls and this is why i struggled to keep going, along with the fact i wasn't sure if there was much light at the end of the tunnel. By this i mean i wasn't sure if raids/end game were worth all the effort but from reading here it seems they probably are.
From my OP on this thread I wasn't implying the game wasn't hard I was more trying to find out if it was. I've found parts very difficult on my own. There's a difference between hard and skillful and this is what i'm trying to research for this game. Saying a game is hard can relate to the fact you don't have the gear or you arn't high enough level etc. What i'm after is something skillfull, like do you need to know when to interrupt or focus fire mobs or evening such things as knowing where to move. I perfer the idea of being able to kill a boss because you have sat there and worked it out not that you went off and bought high end gear off the Auction house and tank and spanked through it. Going back to some FP i have done though there does seem to be some fun bosses so I was hoping, and it seems it does, carry on to the raids.
Thanks Executor1 for posting those videos, that gives me pretty much what i was after. At the moment i'm playing a jedi sentinal and i just wish they made lightsabers look a bit different at times :D unfortantly their hands are tied
thanks for all the info, i think it's helped me to push on with leveling now.
Yeah that's basically how I feel. I *love* the storylines and the class quests, but the grinding in between is dull. The sith warrior story is awesome, and I'm having a blast. Dramatic cutscenes are especially awesome and make your character really feel badass/unique.
But then right after an awesome showdown and/or cutscene it's right back to "go here and kill X jerks and disable Y turrets." Zzzzzzzz
Also, does anyone know if the faction classes are mirrored? Like, would Jedi knight have the exact same skillset as Sith warrior? Are consular/sorcerer clones? Trooper/Agent? Smuggler/bounty hunter? I'm probably going to want to do another storyline at some point but I'm not sure what to pick and I certainly don't want to go through as a identical class to something I already played.
Also companion question: (sith warrior spoilers) + Show Spoiler +
Would I ever pick any other companion for battling aside from Malavai? I mean, Vette and Jeasa are both DPS, which I deal shitloads of. Malavai has heals, why would I ever not pick him? o.O;
Any good ways to farm affection with my other companions? Malavai loves me and I'm probably near the romance threshhold, (but he's such a dolt I dunno if I even want to lol), but since I never take Vette/Jeasa with me anymore they never gain much affection. Just gift spam or something?

I have been farming affection by using treasure hunting to gather companion gifts. Then I look at the chart located on this website. http://www.oldrepublic.net/261-swtor-companion-gifts-guide-how-buy-your-love.html Finally I give the companions their appropriate gifts. Also there are gift fragments (I obtain them through Treasure Hunting as well) that you can trade in at the curator in the space station, in the section by the galactic trade kiosk. When you trade in the fragments you're guarenteed to get the type of gift you want.
Champion gifts and gift fragments can be obtained through any of these crew skills, investigation, underworld trading, diplomacy, and treasure hunting.
Edit: The skill sets and trees are practically identical across the two factions, basically its the easiest way to balance things. There are/were some minor imbalances that make imps better. Two examples that were noted, I don't know if this has since been patched so forgive me if I'm wrong, one class had a move that instantly damaged while the other had to wait for the particle to connect before damage was calculated, and one class had a 15 second shorter cooldown on what is effectively the same move. There may be a few differences in the tree's, but everything is basically mirrored with the siths getting to shoot lightning while the jedis throw pebbles.

[/spoiler] Yes, they're more or less mirrored. There's occasionally a slight difference here and there, such as Sith Inquisitor gets Sacrifice at 46 that sacks your companion to heal you for 40% health. Jedi Consular at the same level gets Unity which is a 15 second 50% damage reduction for you and your companion. It's a companion ability, so ultimately doesn't matter too much.
Otherwise, the differences are mostly just animation, which current actually effects some things. I want to say the example given is a Sith ability hits with its stun immediately, but the animation on the Jedi mirror ability doesn't hit for 1-1.5 seconds and thus the stun is delayed that long as well. I imagine Bioware will be working on those types of differences, though.

It doesn't really require that much skill, most of it is just basic stuff like move out of fire, kill the adds, beat the enrage timer. The raid instances are overall pretty cool though, and the difficulty will probably rise with the next couple of patches.
Gear. Whats the end game gear like? One thing i always enjoyed was starting off as a low level looking a bit worse for wear in mmo's and gradually building up gear to look the part. The epics looks decent and you can see the difference. But the normal raid gear can be aquired by farming 5man hardmodes and buying the gear from crystals you get there. And nightmare/hardmode raids drops the same loot so if you've cleared nightmare mode, noone will see the difference between you and someone who are just farming hardmode.
Meters. Has anyone any idea if any sort of dps/threat meters are going into the game? I know some people feel they ruin an mmo but I think if you use them right they can be a really useful tool and way of judging and improving yourself.
No threat meters or damage meters, not even a combat log.
Overall the current normal raids are decent, but the hardmode/nightmare versions of them are really horrible. There's so many bugs that it becomes frustrating instead of fun, but since it's a while until you hit 50 and start to raid it will probably be fixed by then so shouldn't be a problem for you.

Not an mmo person im guessing.
Took me under 20 hours on my alt to get to level 17.
If your into the story this mmo is alot less tiresome leveling wise then other mmo's. Actually just in general it takes less time to level up in this mmo than alot of others.
You think this is bad go play aion or lineage 2 lol.
Hmm well I played WoW for probably 5 years on and off. Don't remind me about Aion, biggest waste of $45 ever. I guess it's because when I leveled in WoW I could take a break and PvP, but in this game I just get stomped because everyone is 35 levels higher than me -_-. then on top of that, I don't know how the end-game is. I hear options from pretty easy to dull to unique, and nothing different in hardmodes except more health/dmg. I see they're working hard on it though so hopefully by the time I hit 50 it's even more awesome.
It also doesn't help I've been doing amazingly well on SC2 ladder(silver league allstar).

I was about to try and describe some of the bosses i encountered but instead ill just link a video of a guide for directive 7.
Because those fights have positioning , you have to interupt or yoou pretty much die, focus down order for add's etc.
Obviously this isnt the only instance with these kind of mechanics. And honestly i havent been 50 for long but ive found the level of play to be alot higher than what is needed for wow instances (like i said before im not sure about raids yet not getting started on any until next week)
Also these guides are for normal modes, so doing certain things will become even more crucial once you get to hard modes.
Edit: Also i just remembered , probably one of the craziest instances i have ever encountered was colicoid war games, it doesnt play out like any instance ive ever experienced. Its not so much that the bosses are super tough or technical, its what you need to do to get to those bosses. I still dont even really get it to be honest even though i cleared it lol.

Hmmm, I'm up to the point where I need to select a surname. I asked my guild, and we had a laugh over the possibilities, but I don't want to settle for one so soon. I don't want to regret this decision. I want a name that would work on more than one character. And preferably be funny.
So TL I want to ask thee for suggestions.
My character's name is Che. A female sith juggernaut. Names I've already considered that were quite funny:
Che Male (Not sure if I want to walk around with this) Che PlusPlus (Probably doesn't work on other characters) Che Mist (Probably doesn't work on other characters)

Its just childish IMO to call yourself something that sounds like she male. Pretty pathetic.
Its like two schoolyard children whispering naughty words to eachother and giggling...

Im gonna say this to anyone and everyone Do Not Read the SWTOR forums if your looking to see what people playing the game are saying about it, or if you want to get an oppinion about the game.
There is maybe 50-100 members that sit on there (probably all day) and just say negative things about the game, if anyone says anything positive about the game they will just go "lol" and point out 100 things wrong with it. To be honest its mostly pvp kids who came into this game expecting it to be there next wow arena or LOL or w/e the hell they thought it would be. They probably spent 1/10000000 of their time developing pvp, it will get better as time goes on , but remember wow didnt even have arena's or bg's when it came out.
I also dont get all these people that expect that every new mmo that comes out should have as many features and as much content as a game thats been in development for11 years (yes there are people that actually expect that). Its just not feasible and even so i think swtor has done a pretty good job. I have no problem with someone going on the forums and saying they are going to quit because ( insert some constructive critisicm) but to quit then stay on the forums and fill them up with garbage about how bad the game is to serve who knows what purpose.
This was actually a post i got from one of the haters after i posted something positive about the game: "Man what ********, you havent hit endgame i can tell, you say that because its flashy and have a nice story its a good game? ye i agree its a good SINGLEPLAYER STORY GAME. There is no fluid combat, and the rest of you crap is about the story, you are just ***** that your Jedi is so awsum and can be a goodi to sho."
does that kid sound older than like 12? lol alot of the hater posts are like this but some are well constructed but they arent any better its just the same people saying the same things over and over again. I think most of us realise the game has a few problems right now, but on those forums they just get blown way out of proportion. Regardless he got really worked up about me saying something positive about the game , these people in there feed of each others hate and because most of the people in the forums are people that have quit and they are probably rejects from other community forums they all just fester in the SWTOR forums. Its actually disgusting.
