WoW pvp? a joke.
I really enjoy SWTOR PvP its got a few things need tweaking but the entire game does. Look forward to hours of fun. I didnt enjoy WoW pvp at all -_-
Also, people saying "we dont have target of target blah blah thats why pvp sucks" - they can add it very easily in later patches and i understand you all need mods and macro's to hold your hand through the entire game. Im sorry for that
Strange that you feel this way. WoW has the best skill and reaction based PvP that I know of,
If by "skill and reaction based" you mean "Whomever has the highest Resilience wins based" then yeah, I agree!
Comments like that are the mark of a bad PvPer. Anybody who thinks that resilience "ruined pvp" is a moron, and doesn't care about competitive pvp.
But it did.
Rewarding people who play the most instead of those whom are the most skilled is silly. Equal playing fields are the way to go in my opinion. You're entitled to disagree, but don't make such a broad statement as "if you disagree with me, you're stupid."
._.
Res did infact ruin WoW PvP, and it made the game even easier than it was before. Nothing is "hard" in WoW anymore.
You're right. My shield slams in vanilla that 1 shotted people were good for competitive PvP...
Shield Slam never 1-shotted anyone, and yes a warrior who has ass-candy and full epics should 1-shot someone in full greens. which it how it was. you have to realize the gear differential back then.
pvp is 10x more fun when battles don't last forever. the only battles that would last somewhat long times would be rogues vs warriors (who had good gear) since the rogue would keep going back into stealth etc.
now, in WoW PvP, no one ever dies because it takes 30 seconds to kill anyone who doesn't even get any heals. yeah sounds real fun lol

You know i just played WoW on a 10 day trial(scroll of ressurection) and in that time, playing a few hours a day, i got both my paladin and druid in full current season gear. It doesn't take time at all to get your resilience gear. People who think resilience is a bad thing are the people who don't care about COMPETITIVE pvp. Without resilience any form of competitive pvp would be entirely broken(and if you say its broken now, then it would make it 100x more broken).
Really? When i played it took like 2 months for good players to get the full arena set (current one) and like mirrion hours of battleground honor farm to get the previous set and offpieces.
When i say current set i mean the current honor set, the s11 honor set. To get the current Arena gear it takes about 20 mins a week.

So Resilience was clearly the answer, not nerfing Shield Slam in PvP.
Resilience is a very lazy solution to the problem of balance. Instead of properly balancing their game, they decided to just add in another stat that made PvP what it is today. Sure, it worked -- to an extent -- however, it was extremely lazy and reckless in my opinion. I don't think it's a good precedent to set of "We can't/don't want to balance our game so we'll just add a Resilience-esque stat"
Oh gawd lets stop right here. They can't nerf every skill that does too much damage in PVP when you get good enough gear because it would break the PVE balance and im pretty sure Blizzard has stated time and time again that WoW is a PVE game first.

If you are only looking for PvP no PvE I wouldn't recommend swtor. The PvP is fun and good but if thats all you are looking for I doubt you will enjoy this MMO to be honest.
On December 24 2011 11:09 Capped wrote: Anyone wanting "fps-speed and control" spacebattles in an MMORPG are downright stupid, im sorry :|
Why? They've already said they got people working exclusively on space combat, and that we'd most likely see group content or even raid content eventually. Just can't see space raids being worth anything at all if you can't control the ship freely so it might be coming.
@ resillience; Make a WoW resillience thread and discuss it there? I'm sure most people here have no interest in this at all and PvP balance discussions about MMO A vs MMO B never ends good because it's unbalanced in every game and every system has strengths and weaknesses.
@SWTOR PvP: After having played a bit on 50 I personally think the PvP is entertaining and I'm having a lot of fun, but that said, it's not going to hold me long term so I really hope they have more PvP content in the works. There's also an outdoor area called Outlaw's Den that has free for all PvP (yes, you can even kill your own faction), random chests spawn there and give you credits/20 mercenary commendations(PvP badges for gear). But you don't get anything from the PvP kills themselves, the chests are pretty rare and the area is small. It's still cool though and something I hope they continue to expand on and even if the rewards are pretty terrible I already go there just for fun and I do meet other people there so it is fun, hopefully it will remain an area where people go to have fun and PvP and hopefully everyone haven't gone all "no rewards so waste of time"-mode. There's also an outdoor PvP zone on Ilum, which is basically two fortresses and some other stuff where the goal is to capture eachothers bases, but haven't tried that yet so no idea about any details on it (like when it goes vulnerable, when it resets, etc).
At ^ above post. Why are people expecting that stupid? Because asking for FPS like combat to be implemented into an MMORPG is like bitchslapping your buyers in the face. Its adding a playstyle to the game they didnt advertise nor try to cater to demand.
Adding a system like the mythical water combat of GW2 would be a better idea. Where its still MMORPG-style combat but "different" because its not on land (I dont know the way to say up down forward back left and right rofl, brainfart at 3am.)
Ive not experienced the space combat but i damn sure dont want or expect FPS style speed and combat when i want to sit back and play my MMO for the evening.
Drop the WoW shit, honestly -_- i think i instigated this, i really shouldnt have. MMORPG (Im talking Wow-esque MMO's GW PvP is amazing for example but a totally different thing) PvP really isnt all that balanced nor engaging, it always comes down to gear, ganks, class vs class matchups and rotations. Ok sure you have your GCD timings and stuns, KD's, status inflictions, speedy use of a block skill and all the rest, it does take a degree of skill i agree, its still unbalanced.
Oh and i fucking love Knocking some noob into the green acid / fire in huttball then stunning the little gimp. <Evil grin>

@Capped I agree, FPS combat has no place in a Hotkey MMO, but I think that it should have better space combat, something with the mechanics in Rogue Squadron simple, easy but fun, unlike Star Fox, which just... too easy and is a dead end in gameplay. ::Wait.... isn't what I just suggested, if controlled by the mouse.. basically that? /facepalm.::
And then, maybe, add a small persistent galaxy, like Eve, but tiny(by comparison), have Guilds get a Capitol ship, players just get their regular crap, have a 'small' space infront of the planets or in the middle of space, where guilds can control the area 'n such... Then, you could have all the joy of a Sandbox MMO with out losing any of the Themepark elements.

They don't have to nerf abilities to balance PvP they need to build it from the ground up with PvP in mind (w/o hurting PvE!), and how I'd do it:
-Balance the abilities for PvP FIRST, and Balance order: 1v1 > 2v2 > 3v3 > and so on... -All health/energy bars show in %, not in #'s, disable #'s for PvP, or base numbers must be low(1-~1000) -All abilities do x % of hp, always. (damage between 1-20% I guess or ^), scale normally(with gear) in PvE -Rebalance damage outputs for PvE by how they scale with stats. -NO RNG, no crits, no non-crits, no dodge, no parry, no nothing. -Gear is 100% aesthetic for PvP -Premade cookie cutter builds to select from for PvP, choices are hard to balance! -Make a debuff when you're in a 'PvE' spec, to reduce your damage to ~non-viable if you engage in PvP while in that spec, or nerf the abilities effects, like removing snares/roots/stuns... -Either ban, or make tracking addons for other player ability cd's.
This removes the 'sense of progression' from the PvP aspect... But I think it'd be well worth it, even though it doesn't take 'long' to get PvP gear, it's seriously a pain in the ass(and still has balance issues). I don't mind getting PvE gear, but for some reason, I hate working for PvP gear, but I like PvP more...

Again, I don't understand why, you already need to aim and move your ship sideways and up/down (and if anything the aiming part is adding a playstyle), you just can't move freely around in the mission, you fly in a straight line on a predetermined path.
Ive not experienced the space combat but i damn sure dont want or expect FPS style speed and combat when i want to sit back and play my MMO for the evening.
Then don't do space combat? It's sort of like saying "remove the PvP system, I don't want to "compete" against other players when I want to sit back and play my MMO for the evening". And since you haven't even tried it, come back after you've tried it and see if you still think it's a bad idea compared to the current space combat system. You might not like the space combat system at all, and that's fine, but that's not the issue here, it's the could be vs the current one and not if you like space combat or not.
I'd recommend the interview that TotalBiscuit did with Rockjaw the other day. They dont talk much about PvP balance or future content.
But from what Rockjaw did say about future content is that they have had writers/voice actors working since basically the day since they finished everything we have now. And that they also have had a dedicated post release content team going for about that amount of time as well.
It was a very good interview and gave some really good insight into the decision that Bioware made about Early Game Access, Release copies/numbers, and Server Population issues.
Like I said before I'd highly recommend this interview. I would embedd it but since I'm a lurker I haven't figure'd out all these fancy gizmos for this here forum.

Hey guys don't hesitate to post some screenshots of your characters, or I don't know, any unusual stuff that you encounter I'd love to see what the TLers are up to.
I just hit 33 on Veela, Fzero the Honorable of The Teamliquid Legacy.
Jedi Guardian aka prot tank
I'm having a blast so far. I've been hard pressed to do anything else outside of work than play the game. Haven't been this sucked into a game for a while. I miss Dota 2 beta, but not enough to stop playing lol.
Only real complaint I have so far is that the skill trees seem to be a bit of a mess. Lots of useless stuff that feel like point wasters.
Edit: I'm streaming most of the time at http://twitch.tv/fzerotl if you ever want to see what I'm up to.

I've done every single flashpoint/heroic that the game has directly sent me to so far. I'm not saying that SWTOR has no interesting fights, I just find it strange that I haven't come across any non tank-and-spanks yet.

Cademimu.
And if you say it's tank and spank, then you might as well quit this game.
