This is an old (several months?) GGAC combo vid I stumbled back across today. Something about it is just mesmerizing. ![]() + Show Spoiler +

Both visual novels are by Type-Moon, but the developers and producers of FUC and MBAA are all different. I guess that means most FUC rights are owned by producer Capcom and most MBAA rights are owned by producer Sega. Pretty close. Both Fate Unlimited Codes and Melty Blood are extensions of Type-Moon franchises (I prefer that term over "based-on", MB has its own canon, dunno about FUC). Fate Unlimited Codes is published by Capcom but developed by another company, AFAIK. Melty Blood is developed by French Bread, published by Ecole. I guess Sega is involved because of the arcade board (Naomi). And of course Sega and Capcom both have games in this SBO already without FUC/MBAA. I guess Type-Moon might have a say in the matter still though. Why FUC instead of MBAA? I don't know. As you say, I can only think that Type-Moon had something to do with it, because I find the decision to be pretty bad. MBAA is a pretty big overhaul, and overall Melty Blood has evolved quite a bit to become a competitive game from its early days as a doujin PC game. Also, according to the ranking in a recent Arcadia (one or two months ago) it was the third most popular game in non-dedicated cabinets. FUC has not convinced me as tournament worthy, especially since I find the videos to be extremely repetitive and boring. Hopefully this is a one-thing shot and the Type-Moon franchise games go back to MBAA.

http://www.youtube.com/user/akugi04 Eternal Fighter Zero is my favorite PC doujin fighting game ever created. Its kind of a mash of moves, systems and references to other fighting games, plus some elements of its own. There's a bit of everything: a parry/just defend hybrid, "roman cancels", supers, juggles, loops, on the groun combos, etc. The game features characters of Key's visual novels (AIR, Kanon, ONE, MOON). The game is pretty simple on paper, but it can be pretty fun to watch at high level. I played the game quite a bit until 2005. EFZ had something of a community around 2004-2006, but I think its pretty much dead by now in the US. Apparently its still played in Japan, at least by a core group of players. akugi04 is an account that puts videos of a Japanese tournament named X-Off. There are other tournaments where they released replay files, but these are the only ones I can find on Youtube. If anyone is interested I can describe what happens in some of these games. Baing a Misaki player myself, I'll have an easier time explaining 神崎's matches.

I have a hard time to believe that, considering that a Tsukihime remake has been announced, and Tsukihime merchandize has a TM hologram sticker. Besides, Tsukihime, Fate, and Kara no Kyokai have overlapping universes and even characters. Do you have a source? (honest question)

I'm getting reminded of a couple doujin fighters I played before way back in the day when I knew even less than I did now: Valkyrie Fight and the sequel Valkyrie Fight Tag. I think they're free downloads at least now, although I'd gotten them at the time from somebody else. They're based on the RPG Valkyrie Profile, and are surprisingly decent (that is, if you're expecting another hack job game rather than a robust tournament fighter). If you've played VP you can imagine how naturally the actual game maps into the doujin fighters--it's brilliant in a really obvious kind of way. VP's already got 3 attacks per character, off-the-ground and air combo systems, and supers (PWS) for each character. At least there's the comedy value of playing as a mage and then comboing Mystic Cross into Frigid Damsel or some such. ![]()

(honest question) ummm, I read it several years ago so I dont have a source but I KNOW the IP has been transferred from Type Moon to elsewhere. Besides, Type Moon is a doujin circle, they dont have the ability to produce merchandise like that and distribute it through sales channels in the first place.

+ Show Spoiler + It is a new school 2D fighter, with a tekken-esque combo system (you juggle your opponent standing on the ground while she/he is on the air), good air game and interesting new mind games. There is no parry and no airblock. No airdash(except one character), but double jump possible. If you input your second jump as fast as you can, it somehow breaks your upward momentum and makes some instant overhead possible. The developer of the game called Shrok, he was one of the devs on Arcana Heart 2. He started making this game as a hobby project. The first playable version was released more than 1 year ago on PC, I think. Shrok updated it regularly with patches. But half a year ago the patching stopped, and shrok introduced this day as the release the date of the brand new, upgraded version of the game. The game has an interesting new school system, which leads to very fun gameplay. The two most interesting feature of the game: ** After choosing your character, you have to choose 1 of the 3 different SHIFTS, these are "monster", "freedom", "tranquility". These are similar to the arcanas in the AH games. For one stock of super meter, you can change your character to this chosen mode for a limited amount of time. All the modes modify the special moves and supers of your character. MONSTER mode usually increases the damage of the specials, increase recovery time and thus leads to enourmous combo damage. FREEDOM mode does the opposite, decresase damage and cut the most of the recovery times and this way it allows you prolonged combos and shows other uses of the originally too slow special moves. TRANQULITY mode... this is the one what you can`t use generalisations on. It radically changes your special moves, sometimes it makes a completely different type of character from the original one! ** The other interesting thing is the Powerbreak system. This can change the momentum of a round very easily! You can earn "monster points" by comboing your opponent or blocking your opponent`s strings. Your score will be the number of hits in a combo or the number of the blocked attacks from your opponent. Your score will get back to zero if: -A new string is blocked. -A new combo has began. -A Powerbreak occurs! Powerbreak will happen if you and your opponent attack the same time and the hitboxes of your attacks collide. In this case, the game timer stops, and the character with less points will be launched to the air, allowing his/her opponent a combo or escaping some situations for a limited amount time, which depends on the point difference. You can use powerbreak against projectiles too! Come on guys, take a look and build a community if you like it. The game will be constantly patched and updated with new contents. Akatsuki Blitzkampf + Show Spoiler + Very easy to pick up 2D doujin fighter. The most interesting thing about this game imo, that this is like the easiest fighting game to play mechanically, so mind games dominate the game.Average combos are about 4-5 hit long. -Airblock is possible, but it depletes the guard bar much quicker than ground blocking. -Besides the usual life bar and super bar, there is a guard bar, if you block this decreases, if it hits zero you are "guardbroken" and can't do anything for 1 second. -All the super bars has 3 blocks. 3 button system (A B C) -A+B throw (throw break is possible) -B+C reflector aka parry (you have a LARGE windows to input it, easy to perform. What is better about it than the parry of third strike that if you miss it, there will be a miss parry operation hence it is punishable) -A+B+C ultimate super (uses all the 3 stocks of super bar) -move motion + B+C the super (or EX) version of a special move. Uses 1 stock of the super bar. The cast is interesting, the characters differ very much. There is a nun with gun, generic shoto, brutal samurai with unique style, self powering guy, BLITZTANK, guile clone..

Found something nice: http://www.geocities.jp/akugi04/xoffmatome.html Each X-Off page has a link to replay files. Random clicks from the akugi's site led me to some other tournament's page: http://www.geocities.jp/kmskyut_ran/efz-colosseum_4th.html http://www.geocities.jp/kmskyut_ran/ has links to more recent tourneys. Haven't seen the replays.
