If I'm building a hard carry dps hero (say Chronos for simplicities' sake), is it better to go Riftshards, Savage Mace, or Shieldbreaker? Or is it just highly situational? I did some number crunching and in terms of pure DPS Riftshards is much better than Mace (based on EV), even considering a low base damage of 60 (unrealistically low, but I thought it would help the case of the Mace). Obviously Savage Mace has some very great mods, but if you're Chronos hitting someone in your bubble, it seems much more advantageous to just go Riftshards instead of Mace (which it seems like everyone does instead).

It's slightly situational. Shieldbreaker is great midgame before people get high leveled and farm their items, because they'll have much less armor - the difference between 8 and 2 armor is much bigger than the difference between 18 and 12, so it's not quite as strong as an endgame item. Riftshards, in pure damage, is the best damage/cost item in the game I believe - especially on chronos, because he doesn't have a crit ability, therefore making it better for him than others. Savage mace is a great endgame luxury because if you're playing against other agi carries, often times they will go wingbow as one of their luxuries - savage mace gives you huge damage and counters wingbow very well. In regards to wingbow, it's actually one of my favorite items and I love building it on all agi carries. On chronos, even with EP/steamboots, I find +60 damage and +60 AS as well with the rewind stacking with evasion just amazing on chronos - it makes him godly in 1v1 carry fights, as autoattacks are often either evaded or rewinded. Anyways, that's my 2 cents ;p

I remember reading SB/RS is best dps per gold. SB is an attack modifier which means no frost and no lifesteal. Savage Mace propagates to illusions and stops channeling spells including tps. Rift is pure dps lux item.

So you can only have one, not one of each type? (lifesteal, slow, stun...what else is there?) And you toggle these somehow - icon near the minimap or clicking on the items? Can you have multiple attack modifiers if one is a skill of the hero? - pred gets lifesteal from skill, and slow from frostburn? And could he get two lifesteal modifiers - one from skill and one from whispering helm- would they stack or only one would be calculated?
