Makes sense now:
== Account Type Explanation ==
- Basic: The standard, free account new players will receive upon sign up. * Access to the weekly 15 free heroes * Matchmaking restricted to All Pick * Can purchase access to additional Heroes through the in-game store
- Verified: Basic accounts that have been upgraded through a show of commitment to their account, by either purchasing Goblin Coins or surpassing a certain threshold of play time * Access to everything a basic player has, plus the ability to participate in Verified Only Matchmaking, to guarantee separation from Basic players if desired * Can choose to play all matchmaking modes, however the use of Tokens or Passes are required (some tokens are awarded once a Basic account upgrades to Verified)
- Legacy: anyone with a paid HoN account before the F2P switch has automatically been upgraded to a "Legacy" account * Access to Verified Only matchmaking * Can continue to play all game modes without the need for Tokens or Passes * Will continue to enjoy free access to the general hero pool

How to kill a community, by S2.
The upper levels will stagnate more than it should with this new system.
|
- Early Access * New heroes may be released as part of the Early Access Program * Early Access is a new system that allows Legacy players to purchase the ability to play these heroes prior to being available for FREE in the general hero pool * Early Access Heroes are disabled in Tournament Mode
|
Erm wow.
Legacy accounts still don't get to use the "Early Access" heroes until they are released to the entire playerbase. That means you still have to pay to play as Monkey King right now even if you bought hon from the look of it.

Yep, early access seems like pay 2 win to me.
You can still ban the early access heroes before they go into the general pool, but really, what the heck are they available in MM games for in the first place?
This update reminds me of when I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh and worked in a store that sold the cards - I could pay 2 win ezpz.

Its a good change for everyone, well done. I would not want to be a free player...

oh great another crash whilst installing such that i have to uninstall and reinstall hon and then manually rebind all my keys EVERY DAMN WEEK >.<

Not enjoying the aspect of early accesss but whatever. HoN needs to somehow make money these days. Also i think you might be surprised. They might give out free early access passes for signing up to websites etc.
Although i am going to enjoying stomping noobs on my sub account @ 1500 for a long long time

My brain hurts with all these changes; i can't decide if it's a good, bad or indifferent thing
I guess i'lll be downvoting AP even when i have a group of 5 :/

infact to further my comment. If you can't beat the competition this is the quickest, easiest way to cut out the majority of the now exhausted hardcore income and rake in any last ounce of easy money.

I don't think anyone's denying that this is to make money. I think part of it is to increase hons popularity in buildup for the NASL but the previous model of one static payment of 30 dollars wasn't working so they've done this to get more money out of hon.

Meh. I don't think F2P is going to help at all, I mean anytime I play someone is raging at someone to uninstall their game. Why would the casual player want to play with kids like this?

Actually once f2p players hit level 5 there's no escaping them for anyone :/
I really wish we had 'legacy' MM.

I think his point is that this wont really work, the harcore people that like HoN's previous system now have an even greater reason to hope for Dota 2, while the other part of the crowd that like LoL's system don't really have much of a reason to switch. It's hard to beat a game that was designed with that system in mind. I definatelly can see some issues with the way S2 is doing it, but it's hard to think of a way that doesn't have a lot of issues.
Will they start releasing heroes much faster, because that's one of the reason the system works in LoL? LoL also has runes and I believe a lot of cosmetic items that can't be bought with ingame currency, unlike HoN. It's hard to say how this will impact HoN's development, so I don't really have an opinion so far, but it kinda sucks that the people that paid for the game with the premisse of not having to pay again suddenly losing it, even if it's only temporaly, about newly released heroes.

Yes brilliant deduction.
Thing is when MK is released to the player base the Legacy accounts get him for free right away. The basic/verified accounts will still have to buy it after release.
Your account still has many great perks to it. The gameplay itself hasn't changed. I honestly don't see what the big deal is.
