I have a higher end PC and it works perfectly well for me. I can't comment on lower end PCs though. If you have PS5, I'd just go that route unless you want to do some modding.

So I've gone over 100 HR and my thoughts are: 1) Combat gameplay is nice. It's more refined than World and isn't as ridiculous and busted as Rise. Balance is overall in an OK spot although certain weapons are pretty clearly more broken than others. 2) Story was about 10 hours, and then flowed into high rank fairly smoothly. Alma is a good handler and the NPCs overall are more likeable and 'dependable' than the garbage cast that was World. Surprisingly did a not terrible job here, though I wasn't expecting MH to go in that direction (although there have obviously been signs). Not sure I like the direction but whatever. I appreciated that the protag was clearly brought along as a veteran, ace hunter and was treated as such throughout the story. 3) Unfortunately you can see them changing direction on map design after the first one, maybe two areas as you go from vibrant, wide-open ecosystems to dark janky corridors. You can sense the level designers having like a clear constricted goal in mind and it's a staggering drop in quality and quality of life as you go from feeling like you're fighting in an area vs. fighting inside these tiny ass hallways all the time. To be honest it kind of sucks. 4) The loss of functionality is very noticeable. No farm (though you do get access to a similar equivalent I suppose), no mine, no personalized cabin where you can show collectibles, just a hub NPC that gives you access to random tradeables and free-stuff-over-time. Ship merchant also only shows at one of the area hubs. You have to enter the tent every time to restock items and change equipment instead of simply being able to access a chest, which adds to load times and such. It's not the biggest of deals but adds to the relative lack of content. 5) 28 monsters, which is more than base World but still sort of a shame considering this game was in like 8 years of development. There're a few cameo monsters who come in with only a variant instant of the original, which is really weird. Other monsters simply don't have any variants. I'm not sure what's up with this but it kinda reeks of Wild Hearts. 6) They still haven't learned a lesson about end-game variety. Considering they have a quest difficulty (1-8) and monster difficulty (1-5?) they could have easily adjusting things so you can get a 5* tempered Barbara become a 7* quest and thus drop r8 artians and r6 decos, but they didn't, which forces you to grind all of like 4 monsters nonstop for a gacha game end game. It's sort of dumb and reduces replayability. 7) End game weapon grind is the pits. I don't think they needed to have learned a lesson from Genshin Impact but here we are. 8) No colosseum, no more than two target monsters per hunt, no side quests to unlock equipment... there's just a painful content dearth. Enemies are also so easy that end-game speedruns are just trying to break 2 minute kills. That's insane. It's just weird - I get that they're trying to target a more casual audience than like Nightreign but this is on some other extreme. I don't intrinsically have an issue with relatively not difficult combat but at a certain point it combines with the lack of enemy variety and turns into "do you want to slag the same 4 monsters for 3 minute hunts for hours and hours in order to Genshin Impact a weapon that helps turn your run from a 3:00 kill into a 2:55 kill? I'm not advocating for big power scaling but it's very demotivating.
I still enjoyed the game and got 60+ hours from it and I have friends who've gotten like 100+ hours from this (idk how they live), but I also agree with JP reviews more-or-less leaning toward "if you must have MH and you can't wait until like Nightreign it's a good core game, but if you can wait you can just wait until more TUs or until the equivalent of Iceborne."

I think that's a fair review. I haven't made it to your level and I've got about 35 hours into the game, so I might get your sentiment soon lol.
I know they released the roadmap of what they want to do and more monsters are coming, as well as DLC. I don't know how big the next expansion will be, but I think it'll be fairly large. Hopefully we get it by end of the year since they released so early. If we get it around end of summer, it'll be awesome. GTA6 is probably going to no-life a ton of people, so they need to maximize their time.
|
One, maybe two monsters are coming in about 3-4 weeks. Then maybe one or two monsters in like 3-6 months (given that they said summer). Iceborne was like 1.5? years after World, so it'll likely be a while.

I mean, I'm still optimizing and trying to get the right stats for my Artian. I know there's farming and everything like you said, and I'll probably get into it. But I'm also not trying to no-life the game lmao. If I do that, it'll ruin it for me later on and I probably won't pick it up again.
I'm also probably skipping Nightreign as well since it just doesn't look like something I'd enjoy. Opinion might change but atm, that's a pass for me. Next games are AI Limit and Berserker Khazan. After that who knows.
But I'm about to get into Wilds so if you want to add and we can do some hunts together, feel free.

I still haven't even started Elden Ring, I guess I will have to get into that now lol

Ugh the performance optimisation is just horrible. I didn't think it would be this bad even in released format.

My biggest issue is input lag. I'm using controller and it doesn't always respond immediately. Wanna hop off the mount? Try 4-5 times. Maybe get a lucky 1 shot. Whistle for the mount? Same thing. It's frustrating as shit lol.
But so far, I haven't had too many performance issues. Everything is running smooth enough that it doesn't take away from my experience.

World ran really well for me, so I really don't get why this is having so much inconsistent framerate. Got my partner a ps5 copy to play along and now I am jealous haha

About to get back on and grind the day away, lets goooooooooo

Does your HR automatically rank up to 50 after the last Arkveld hunt? I was stuck at HR 40 for the longest and then everything opened up after that. If so, then it's about to go down. I'll keep playing until I can get all the armors/weapons I want, but I dunno how much more after that. More games are about to drop that I need to get on.
|
I forget HR bumps exactly but yes HR is story locked, then jumps to a certain point and then you just gain HR normally via hunts after that. If you completed the last hunt and hit 50 then it's the usual end-game content grind after that.

I wanna get to 100 but we'll see if I survive that long. First Berserker and AI Limit are next up I think.
E: Happy birthday Southlight!

Finallygot my Dahaad armor. Now to grind and get the Gore armor. I was close to getting everything I need but I made the mistake of joining a lobby and some random got us killed. So close.
Now I'm HR60 and it's still pretty fun to play.

Postgame weapon discussion spoilers + Show Spoiler +I've just started making Artian weapons. They are allegedly the strongest if you get a good roll, but I'm finding them substandard even when I get the rolls I want.
Anyone rolled anything really good they would recommend aiming for? Any weapon except Lance

Anyone rolled anything really good they would recommend aiming for? Any weapon except Lance I haven't really researched what the Artian weapons should be. I did a Fire and left it at that. Hunts still take time, but I chalk it to skill issue.

Have made some more, seems like for pretty much every melee you want Attack/Attack/Attack for the parts, then hope you get 4 attack and 1 sharpness on your rolls. Blast/sleep or para depending on preference.
Affinity rolls don't seem necessary, they come with 5% base so you're hitting 90% affinity with 2 piece set bonus from + Show Spoiler [lategame monster] +, WEX and max might, 100% affinity on wounds. Can easily fill in the last 10% with either a point in latent power or some points in expert/agitator if you really want to.
I have no idea what's optimal for ranged
