We're going to set up a pasture. For your animals to graze on. Crazy! haha. Push i --> make an area like you would a stockpile --> Enter, you'll see a zone placed down. --> hit n --> hit shift+n --> Select what animals you want to graze in this location...grass WILL disappear so if you have more than like 10 animals you might consider a bigger zone or multiple. I usually do 5 horse sized animals in a 7x7 zone off in a random place somewhere. edit: this is also handy for cats/war dogs. Make a 1x1 pasture by your main entrance, and have a war dog dragged there. Bam, it's like having a photon cannon at your front door. No more goblin thiefs or anything sneaking in! Cats, pastures to corral a catsplosion, or pastures to set cats to only "patrol" in your food stockpiles. :D

I eventually assigned them to just go shoot at capybara men which they easily killed but now won't loot for the meat. They're now currently hunting and doing it right, bu tthey're so innacurate T.T I read the wiki and made sure they were assigned to train, active (they were even in uniform), had a barracks with an archery target in it, had ammunition/quivers/weapons. Any ideas on what I was doing wrong?

With the immigration and such I ended up having about 70 dwarves relatively fast and wanted to assign an armorsmith. Do I really have to go like u->select a dwarf->c... etc. like 50 times until i find one that has a "talent" for the job? Download the Lazy Newb Pack, and use the "Dwarf Therapist" utility. Saves you hours of time.

Everybody will wear the best item available for their uniform. If somebody upgrades and sheds his old then somebody else will equip that if its better than their current. Unless they grow fond of their items. Sometimes a dwarf will fall in love with his copper axe and won't trade for a new masterwork steel one.

My two best marksdorfs have fallen in love with their bone crossbows, and refuse to use anything else lol.

My two best marksdorfs have fallen in love with their bone crossbows, and refuse to use anything else lol. it's really not a big problem. The material for crossbows only affects their melee damage. The worst possible situation in that regard is if they fall in love with an adamantine crossbow; it's like your dwarfs trying to deal out death with whiffle bats. The only thing which is relevant for crossbows is the quality, masterwork is 2x accuracy and artifact is 3x. iirc the best material for crossbows, or any other blunt weapon, is bismuth bronze or silver ( depends of the situation) because of the density. Silver tends to do better against other humanoids and other conventional creatures, but apparently can't touch a bronze colossus for shit.
