You could play 2v2 with 1v1 ruleset in the beta already. Co-op in SC2 has proven to be a lot more popular than competitive team modes, so it makes sense to prioritize that.

There are a lot of lobbies for 5v3 hard CPU custom maps in brood war. So they are pretty popular and a fun challenge.

At least in StarCraft they were a combo of buying skins/announcer packs, with some of the money going to eSports side of things, iirc there were some for Katowice/Blizzcons

Don't underestimate how much more popular coop is than 1v1. The financial success of them making coop in SC2 is a big reason they even started making Stormgate.
It's also easier for them to make coop missions than create an esports worthy 1v1 game. Once they have a working editor they could pump coop maps out every other week, but making a 1v1 on the same level as SC2 is difficult.
One thing that's sad is waiting until 2025 for the editor. It's only 6 months but if it offers more than previous editors did (or is easier to use) then people could flock to it.
I can see people being annoyed by waiting 6+ months for the final T3 units. I guess they want to see how the meta develops before adding more units?
After reading all the QnA following the release of the 'untextured, unanimated floating Blender primitives faction' I am now certain that all of the money went to extensive, militaristic PR training for all the team members. They team all speaks so elegantly in the absence of truth.
They really are moving well and making an absurd amount of simplifications wrt to their plans. They are smart about making cuts and folds with the reduced resources. Most of the co-op missions will be aligned with a campaign mission, rather than just a few as with SC2. I saw that coming. But man for the angeltoss to not have any moving parts, like literally, now that's absolutely wild. The absolute guts to save money by being like — well what if the RTS race didn't have units? These game developers could stare down the cartel.
Its pretty funny to have the QnA just make all these fresh promises and insinuations none of which appear on their carefully drafted roadmap (a 12 step process!) but I know they can't help themselves.
People have to buy a shit ass ton of stuff to keep this machine going, get your cheque books out stormheads.
Its weird how they go with 'random fake runic language' on all the signs and banners. They selected a near-future Earth setting but seem so uncomfortable with the level of detail or reality that would imply. Like if you had English on that banner, or a few languages like it was some Korean/English/Russian multi-language sign, well then you've made decisions about where you are, what people are, what happened to countries after the invasion and on.
During the QnA they had another round of disagreement where people call the game 'cartoon-y', then the developers shoot back (again) with the assertion that it is 'stylistic'. That was dumb. Why they get tagged with cartoon-y, is an unwillingness to make choices about what they are doing. Slathering stuff in hieroglyphs is an example of that.
Post apocalyptic already has realism as a genre property, so the contrast between the expectation there and the fact that you can just gleefully build a house out of a demon skull is going to give a cartoon vibe.
Its very comfortable for developers to inhabit that un-descended pre-pubescent space where you don't make decisions because its helpful — don't have any language on signs means no localization, no geography means no politics/no race/no religion. Taking religion out of a game with angels and demons is a huge workaround. It doesn't even look like you'll see the kind of non-denominational forces of evil vs forces of good type discussions you get with Diablo. This feels like even more of a loss given post-apocalyptic works rich history of commentary on the fallibility of current society.
They end up setting the whole thing on EARTH with PEOPLE, which are extreme simplifications. (Like how cartoons simplify things.) If its going to be on Earth then it would have been great if they even named what the hell desert that is. But then of course you invite criticism about the details of the biome, so its easier to just make a DESERT.
I don't really get why they didn't just say it was in a galaxy far, far away if they wanted to be so abstract.
It isn't them failing to make design choices, it's just shit you apparently don't prefer.
Choosing to not call it the Sahara desert IS a design choice. You'd choose to call it the sahara if you were making a grounded, realistic setting. Iunno what you've seen that suggests Stormgate is going for grounded realism, but I think that's your miss more than theirs.
Having specific language on a sign is also a design choice. It gives you freedom to set tone (SC1's "Bob's guns" doodad comes to mind) but also requires localization and other considerations you kindly mentioned. It's a choice, and one you'd ideally make to support your vision and not because some whiny babies on the internet don't like your game because it is cartoony.
I miss your satire. Your latest criticisms just read like someone who doesn't like something digging deep for a nitpick, instead of just not wasting time on the thing they don't like.

Dude, you don't like the art. We heard you the first time. You don't need to repeat it a gazillion times... give it a rest.
I am a bit disappointed that 3v3 is delayed and that the campaign will in fact stay on the (very) small side at EA release as those were the modes I was looking most forward to. Coop was never really my thing in SC2 and won't be in SG since I have noone to play that really
At least in the beta you could play the coop missions solo by setting up a custom game and you would still earn progression that way as well. Of course difficulty was still adjusted for 3 players but I think some people managed to beat it on brutal solo.
You don't have to localize fake runes. Localization costs money. They're a small indie company (I love being about to say this unironically after calling blizzard this for 10 years)
Look at this bonus XP "Abyssal Creature' boss in the co-op map. Look at how it shoots a tentacle out of its ass to grab units. Did you see the ass tentacle in this latest Stormgate beta?
I think this is intended to be an alien tape worm type creature which resides in the Abyssal Creature's stomach. They have a synergistic relationship. The Abyssal creature houses the tape worm and shares some of its food. While the tape worm abducts things through the creature's ass. Finally some pleasing well-thought out science fiction type details in this game. I retract all criticisms like the worm retracting into the ass.
