Expected to release this Holiday season it's will have backward compatibility, dual sense controllers, with a choice of a HD camera, and a media remote control.
Bloomberg is estimating the price to be around $470 but with Sony's vast online subscriber numbers this could lower the cost. Source
Some of the Games:
Hopefully we learn more about the details of Backwards Compatibility and how far back it goes, I don't expect many PS1 or PS2 games. Though there are rumors some PS1 games like Twisted Metal being remade for the next gen.
I think the discless version will be ~$400 or lower. The blu-ray version will definitely cost ~$450+. I think they could get up to $500 and still sell a helluva lot of systems. If they go for the $450 route, they'll have stocking issues. I'm hoping they have a setting in the console that allows for the color to be changed on the controller and the console itself.
Definitely can't wait to see the skins coming out for it by 3rd parties.

Design discussion: I couldn't care less how it looks TBH. Definitely not waiting half a year for a "slim" or a "all black" version
Since my TV is on the wall, I'm gonna buy/ build a sideboard specially for this anyway
How do you leak a price? Especially of something this big, in today's world? I wouldn't sell it in france for a year.
If the price is to be correct, that is about what I figure it would be. And agreed on the waiting game. If I was Sony, just never make a slim version and just sell skins.
The non-disc version seems to be 399€. No real sources for that one though
Question: As a mainly PC user, I have steam, gog, epic store, ... to chose and buy games from. On the PS5 I will have only sony store I guess. How is the pricing of games? Specially "older" games?
What I really want to know is, which version of the PS5 to buy and if it's worth to get the disc version for some cheap older games (maybe buy used PS4 games as well)? I don't own a PS4 and therefore no PS4 games
Depends on the game. Some games drop slowly in price over time and some drop quick. You might be able to find used games for sure. I think you can borrow the game from someone, install it on your system, and then be fine without having the disc.
I'd assume that the PS4 games will stay in price for a little while longer, while possibly only dropping to ~$40 upon release as PS5 will be the main console being developed for.
I think there are also games that are forced to be installed on the SSD, so you'd need to look into that and probably prepare to buy an external to have space if you plan on getting a large library over time.
It looks like PS5 is going to be a big console, and the main reason it needs all that space is heat.
Matt MacLaurin is the vice president of user experience design at PlayStation, and he's been responding to comments about the PS5 reveal on his LinkedIn page (as spotted by VG247). While MacLaurin isn't divulging any big shockers like the PS5 price, he has been willing to give some extra context to the console reveal that Sony did at the PS5 Future of Gaming event last week.
One commenter asked why PS5 needed to be "bigger and bulkier" than PS4. "Thermals," MacLaurin answered. "This gen is little supercomputers. While the 7nm process delivers amazing heat performance for the power, the power is very extreme."
MacLaurin's comments about "the 7nm process" refers to the ever-shrinking semiconductor technology that allows tech companies to fit higher performing components into the same amount of space. The other half of the equation is making sure those new components don't overheat. If your PS4 has ever started to sound like a bayou airboat, you know that ventilation has been a problem for Sony's current generation.
Aside from being a big fella, PS5 also has a distinct look about it. MacLaurin was willing to share some thoughts about that too in response to commenters.
"I understand it's not for everyone, but no good art is," Maclaurin said. "Still, I think it's refined enough to tuck away quietly. The editions are going to be lit."
Sony showed off its PlayStation 5 console design last week and briefly teased the OS, now Sony’s VP of UX design at PlayStation, Matt MacLaurin, is promising an overhauled user interface for the PS5. Describing the new software interface as a “very interesting evolution of the OS,” MacLaurin says it’s a “100 percent overhaul of the PS4 UI and some very different new concepts” in a LinkedIn thread.
“As it’s UI it’s practical first, but it’s a whole new visual language and a complete rearchitecting of the user interface,” explains MacLaurin. The new PS5 OS is “more subtle than flashy, but no pixel is untouched,” he adds.
MacLaurin says the team will show off the new OS soon, after Sony briefly teased part of it during its PS5 games stream. The PS5 OS was shown as part of several Easter eggs throughout Sony’s event last week, culminating in the hardware reveal.
While Sony is promising a totally overhauled dashboard for the PS5, Microsoft is taking a slightly different approach. Instead of a radical redesign, Microsoft is focused on optimizing its existing Xbox One dashboard for the upcoming Xbox Series X so the UI is as familiar as possible. The Xbox Series X dashboard will stay aligned with the Xbox One, but with some enhancements and updates made before the new console launch.
MacLaurin also teases a “maybe” in response to a question about changes in the homescreen interface, but doesn’t reveal any specifics for the PS5 OS. Perhaps more interestingly, MacLaurin also hints at custom hardware designs for the PS5 in the future that will go beyond what we’re used to with the PS4.
“This [hardware] is also customizable in ways previous gens weren’t,” reveals MacLaurin. He even teases a “maybe” response to questions about a black version of the PS5, and that “there will be a special edition for everyone.” It’s clear we haven’t heard every detail about the PS5 hardware or software just yet.

So you are leaning more to the disc drive version of the PS5?
Another thing I'm kinda hoping for is a updated version of PS Now. Like paying 15 bucks a month for ALL games (and not streams but downloadable pls), even super new releases and obviously PS Plus has to be in it as well
I'm definitely getting the disc version. I'm still old school that way. And until the download speeds from PSN is better, this makes the most sense. I would consider a digital only if I ever start a family or buy/build a house where my nieces and nephews come to stay over or whatever the case is.
Happily for anyone who struggles to summon much interest in raw tech specs, last week’s PlayStation 5 broadcast was heavy on games. Having seeded details about the console’s hardware and performance throughout the year, Sony opted to show what developers have been doing with that speed and power.
Of the 28 games shown, nine were from Sony’s own studios, meaning they will be playable only on PS5. A further 14 were what’s known as timed exclusives, meaning that they’ll be available on PS5 first and may also launch on PC.
Exclusive games have always been the shining beacons that attract players to an expensive new console, but arguably their role has been diminishing for at least a decade. Microsoft, particularly, has completely changed its approach to its own studios’ games in recent years, offering up all of them on PC and Xbox and packaging them up as part of a £7.99-a-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass instead of charging £50 for each. Xbox bosses have even repeatedly stated that, in their ideal world, Xbox games would be playable on any screen or device. Meanwhile, the biggest game publishers, including 2K, Ubisoft and EA, almost never make a game for a single platform any more, instead selling them across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
However, Simon Rutter, PlayStation’s EVP for Europe, says that for Sony exclusive games are “hugely important. More important, I think, than they’ve ever been. Through their proximity to the system’s designers, PlayStation’s studios are able to really extract the most out of the system performance and that’s a really valuable attribute for a platform holder to have. [PlayStation] can rely on a studio network that can really show off the innovations that we’re trying to put across … when the exclusives are as powerful as Marvel’s Spider-Man or Horizon, they are important games that people want to play.”
Take Gran Turismo, the hyper-realistic racing game that has been synonymous with PlayStation since the 90s. “Gran Turismo 7 is going to benefit from almost every single technological enhancement that we have in PlayStation 5,” says Rutter. “The loading times will be next to nothing compared to what they have been in the past. Sitting in the cockpit, the 3D audio allows you to hear the thunderous roar of a Ferrari behind you or in front of you, and you can recognise the difference between that and the engine noise of a Maserati. Driving the car using the DualSense controller, you’ll have a different feeling in your hands from the smooth undulating tarmac of a racetrack, compared to the gritty sensation on a gravel track. Pressing a soft accelerator will feel very different than pressing on a stiff brake pedal or gear paddle.”
Sony’s approach is a reminder that games consoles are about more than tech specs; their features, and the selection of games that their manufacturers curate, create a culture around them. Nintendo specialises in consoles that are portable, flexible, family friendly and fun. Xbox, historically, has always put connectivity at the forefront, centring games such as Halo and Forza that you play online with friends. Sony, meanwhile, likes to invest in a diverse portfolio of games to attract players who like to feel as if they’re on the cultural cutting edge.
That comes at a cost, however – £50-60 per game – and, in the conspicuous absence of pricing details for the PlayStation 5, there is speculation that the console could push £500. Add in a monthly online-play subscription and you’ve got a very expensive hobby. For players, the games have to be pretty great to justify it.

I hope the old hack is still available. with PS4 me and a buddy did the swap so I have his ps4 and he has mine. this way when he buys a game i can play it and when i buy a game he can play it. we cut all game costs in half.
Sony hosted ‘The Future of Gaming’ event earlier this month to unveil its brand new piece of technology, the PS5. Although it didn’t feature any details for PlayStation VR 2, a new patent could offer some indication of what to expect with the next-gen headset.
A while ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a patent that hints at sickness reduction for PlayStation VR 2.
Now, the company has filed a new patent that seems to target a “highly enjoyable viewing experience” for the headset.
As unearthed by Gaming INTEL, Sony’s latest patent filing is for a new information processing system, method, and computer program.
The patent hints at a new information processing system that will “provide a user who views a virtual space with a viewing experience with high entertainment characteristics.”
This new patent also proposes a way to allow players to feel more immersed while using the head mounted display. Wherever the user rotates their head, a panoramic image according to the line-of-sight direction is displayed.
Sony has remained tight-lipped regarding their next-gen VR headset. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed as of yet, it will likely launch sometime after the PS5.
Sony is reportedly increasing its PlayStation 5 production to 10 million units in 2020 as it "sees the prolonged effects of the COVID-19 pandemic boosting demand for gaming."
As reported by Nikkei Asian Review and Bloomberg, Sony had originally planned to produce 5-6 million consoles by the end of March 2021, but the change in demand due to the global pandemic has caused it to change course.
Sony is said to have begun PS5 mass production in June and "under the latest plan, expects to assemble 5 million units by the end of September and another 5 million between October and December."
Not all 10 million may make it to store shelves in 2020, however, as logistical delays may delay a percentage of the PlayStation 5 consoles to 2021.
A big factor in the potential delay for some of the stock is due to shipping constraints, as "a large proportion of Sony’s consoles are made in China and sent out via sea around the world."
It can take months for these consoles to make it from China to the U.S. and Europe via ocean lines, which can cause issues keeping PS5s in stock. Nintendo has recently faced a similar problem with Nintendo Switch.
Sony is also said to be increasing production for PlayStation 5's DualSense controller. It had originally planned on producing 10 million units.
While we do know what the PlayStation 5 looks like and that it will be released in Holiday 2020, we still don't know the price or exact date. However, the PlayStation 5 Reveal Event did showcase some upcoming games for Sony's next-gen console, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
Alongside the news about PlayStation 5, Nikkei reports that Facebook is also increasing production on its Oculus headsets by at least 50% to 2 million units.
I don't remember an announcement for it, but it should be backwards compatible regardless. They announced CP2077 for sure will be available for all 4 consoles(PS/Xbox)
I'm definitely getting it when it drops. I missed all of the PS4 era. I refuse to miss this!
Edit: I've played games on the PS4, but I didn't buy a console. Felt I should clarify that. From the games I've played, if PS5 is 1.5x more powerful than the PS4, it's going to be the defining moment for console games. With regards to the specs released and the games showcased so far, this is looking to be something special akin to the PS2 or PS3 launch. Haven't been this excited in years.
Why exactly is this big news? Are games supposed to be significantly more expensive than they've always been? Even back during the N64/PS1 days, games were like $60-70 a pop, and that hasn't really changed over the past 25 years, right?

Right lol, how expensive do console companies expect games to get just because the technology of the console is better? Eventually we will have to have good credit / a huge down payment to play the games lol. =P
Its sort of stupid how I they are always improving the console every 6 months (for example more memory). And then they release pro versions of consoles and slim versions of consoles. It makes people always think, ahhh ill wait a little bit cos something better will come out, and then all of a sudden they announce a new console haha
PlayStation 5's latest announced feature is “Activities,” a system that allows players to instantly jump from the PS5’s home menu directly into select areas of various titles. This exciting new addition to the PlayStation’s repertoire is made possible through the PS5’s custom solid-state drive (SSD), which holds 825GB of story and is capable of transferring 5GB/s.
For those unfamiliar with the technology, all of this essentially means that the PS5 will be able to save, transfer, and load data at significantly faster speeds than the original PS4 (or any other console that uses a hard disk drive, or HDD). Originally teased by Sony’s Mark Cerny months ago, the Activities system is just one example of how SSD technology can be integrated to greatly enhance the gaming experience outside of simply performing basic tasks faster. It will be the next step in keeping console players continuously engaged with their games - both single player and multiplayer - and is sure to be a major consideration for players who don’t want to waste a single second.
Wccftech examined today what Activities would look like in practice. In the upcoming racing game WRC 9, players will be able to go directly from their home menus into a race of their choice, effectively skipping the process of booting up the game entirely. Not only this, but the Activities tab itself will feature live updates regarding in-game events, races, and other missions, meaning that players will constantly be aware of everything going on in WRC 9’s world. In Mark Cerny’s own words, “Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with a set of joinable activities in real time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them.”
Cerny’s clarification that this system will apply to both single-player and multiplayer games is a significant one that holds great potential. For MMO players, Activities could drastically cut down on the amount of time players spend booting up titles like Destiny 2 in the hopes that a specific quest is available. Similarly, it would be a great implementation into mission-based games, like Nioh 2, which features daily Twilight missions with different rewards for each completion. The same goes for popular multiplayer shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone and Overwatch, which also regularly cycle through playable game modes.
Back when consoles first implemented the ability to see which friends are online and what they were playing, it seemed like the wave of the future; Activities appears to be the next step in that process. With the PlayStation 5 due to release in only months, it would seem that Sony is saving the announcements of some of its most intriguing features for last.
It’s been a while… but State of Play returns this Thursday with a focus on third-party-published games coming to PS4 and PS VR. We’ll have a few PS5 game updates on third-party and indie titles you last saw in June’s PS5 showcase.
The episode is weighing in at 40+ minutes(!). We’ve got a great lineup in store featuring plenty of new gameplay footage and other game updates. Can’t wait to hear what you think!
And just to be super clear — there will be no PlayStation Studios updates in Thursday’s episode. There won’t be any updates around hardware, business, preorders, or dates either. On Thursday, our focus is squarely on showcasing some cool upcoming games coming to the broader PlayStation ecosystem. Should be fun!
The new State of Play episode airs Thursday, August 6 at 1:00pm Pacific Time / 4:00pm Eastern Time / 9:00pm BST, and you can watch it live on Twitch and YouTube.
anyone can tell me why i cant see twitter links from (CC) StealthBlue? I only see empty posts from him but if someone quotes/quoted him, I see his twitter links. Chrome/Firefox or my TL settings?
I don't use VPN and/or whatever else. It's either Chrome/Firefox or (my) TL settings. I hardly use Firefox but I checked just for this.
edit: I found out. Both at chrome and Firefox settings. tracking prevention: simple, middle and hard. I don't see twitter links on hard but on middle and simple.

Huh. That's interesting. Never saw that setting option when I rummage through there.
I'm slowly losing interest in PS5 since Sony's information politics really pisses me off. Give me a goddamn price and a goddamn release day and a goddamn pre-order form! Not this shitty pre register with your Sony Super ID and then maybe you get a letter that maybe you can buy a PS5 for some vague amount of money sometime between now and 2025...
FU Sony
I didn't follow the launch of PS4 closely. Was it this bad back then?
If I recall, it was all announced at E3 that year. So this ass dragging is surprising. I get the supply chain for them and everyone else is screwy, but a fucking price would have been nice. People still need to save money and plan to buy this console. It's not going to be some impulse buy.
This is probably the worst way to handle a console release.
I didn't follow previous launches very closely but it seems this has turned into Microsoft and Sony each waiting for the other to drop the price first so that one can then undercut the other. I think this game happens with every new launch but the pandemic is probably taking it to the extreme this year.
As for the Sony sign up page although I'm a bit annoyed that it is US only(hello rest of world would like a PS5 as well) I am sort of onboard with this approach as theoretically it should help cut scalpers out of the picture. Maybe it is US only because they found the majority of scalpers were from there? I'm not sure but I applaud the effort.
“Designed for PS5, PROJECT ATHIA will harness the full power of the console and demonstrates Luminous Productions’ philosophy to provide a gaming experience like never before, fusing together the latest technology with art.
PROJECT ATHIA will transport players to a world filled with beauty and dismay as they set upon a thrilling story-led, action-packed adventure which can be twisted, tempestuous and forbidding.”
I could probably get behind a November 19th-ish release date if pre-orders hurry and open by early to mid Oct. I'd also need to see a list of launch titles through the end of the year as well.
Granted, I might still get it just to have the console and wait for the games, but I'd like to break the bad boy in ASAP.
Sony has a currently unnamed event planned for the 18th September during PAX Online. It's one of the only upcoming PAX events that doesn't have a title — it's simply called 'Sony Holder' at the time of writing. And so the speculation begins.
It could well be that Sony has something big planned for whatever this PAX showing is — or perhaps it plans on using this event to expand upon upcoming PS5 announcements. Again, the fact that this slot doesn't have a name suggests that it's all very secretive.
Before PlayStation 5 launches this holiday, we wanted to give you one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!).
Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.
Tune in live on Twitch or YouTube this Wednesday, September 16 at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST to see what’s next for PS5.
Welp this has become a giant mess. They had to announce that preorders would open up after the showcase, but not when. Sony said they would email people when preorders opened up, they didn't.
I definitely took sony at their word, and didn't try to preorder because I thought there would be an actual fucking schedule and announcement. Fuck me I guess
I wouldn't really call dropping 832 luck, farva haha. I was refreshing gamestop and BB like every 5-10 seconds for an hour. Especially gamestop once I got in.
I hear a lot of retailers are going to open them back up, so keep looking around and trying. I'd rather get the standard edition because I have no need for 2 controllers atm. If I could trade it for a game, that would be stellar.
Shit. I hope you guys are able to get one. Getting back into console gaming would be fun. I also need them to release that list of NVME M.2 SSDs that can be installed.
Was hoping it would have real backwards compatibility, but it just looks like you have to pay for a subscription service to have temporary access to some PS4 games. Eh.
Also sucks to see how little clarity was given to actually nabbing a preorder for folks who were looking for one, it feels like the kind of thing where the bots and scalpers get way way ahead of people who actually wanted the thing. Hope folks are still able to get them before long.
I'm pretty sure it has true backwards compatibility. Buy a PS4 disc plop it in and it'll work. Pretty nice because you should be able to pick up cheapo games for 5-15$ as time goes on. Though tbh most of the games you'll want seems like they'll be added to PS+
Preorder experience was terrible. I managed to snag one off of Sam's Club just because I was spam refreshing the PS5 subreddit. I recommend keeping on eye on that, specifically new/rising, for a chanc.
I just checked gamestop and bb and still nothing on their sites. Haven't tried target. And I don't think it was bots or scalpers that took all of the immediate pre-orders. I think it was the retailers listing them too soon and not waiting for today. They screwed everyone over on that. But I feel the pain of those Sony said would have emails sent to preorder and they can't get them at the moment.
i dont know kev... i dont think 400$ digital edition is a good long term deal because sony just confirmed next gen games will cost 70$... which is fucking nonsense and i refuse to pay one singe penny unless all next gen games comes with full DLC and no other bullshits one could count on CD projeckt or sony exclusive studios but besides that ? things look pretty gloomy for next gen gaming tho
Unless there is an emulator in there, I highly doubt it. You've got 3 generations of different system architecture to muddle through to make it work. That's why they haven't done it for the PS4 to PS3. The PS3 had backwards compat for a limited time and the prices for those were insane (think I paid 600 for a backwards compat PS3).
yeah they either creat a dedicated emu like nintendo or just simply remaster or remake PS2 games backward compatibility is not possible due to PS2 and PS3 use IBM s CPU but talking about nintendo...why they are still using emulator for old games albeit they ve been using ARM since forever is beyond meee....
The PlayStation 5 will not be compatible with PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 1 titles, Jim Ryan confirmed.
After months of rumors and speculation, the PlayStation CEO confirmed to Famitsu, as translated by Siliconera, that the upcoming next-gen console will only be compatible with PlayStation 4 games.
Famitsu: We were also surprised when we heard that it will have 99% compatibility with PS4 titles. By the way, will there be compatibility with PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles?
Jim Ryan: We keep in mind the engineering specialized for the PS5, as we produced the device. In the midst of that, the PS4 already has 100 million players; we thought they ought to want to play PS4 titles on the PlayStation 5 as well indeed, so we included compatibility with the PS4. While implementing that, we also focused our efforts on taking in the high-speed SSD and the new controller DualSense at the same time. So, unfortunately, we couldn’t reach the implementation of such compatibilities.
As of now, it is not yet clear how the PlayStation 5 backward compatibility will work with PlayStation 4 games. Yesterday, Sony announced the PlayStation Plus Collection, a new service that will give PlayStation 5 users access to a selection of PlayStation 4 titles like Uncharted 4, God of War, Bloodborne, Batman: Arkham Knight, and a few others
For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 — the PlayStation Plus Collection. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.
The PlayStation 5 launches in North America and other select territories on November 12th and in Europe and the rest of the world on November 19th.

I think its hilarious that I still somehow am capable of playing PS1 and PS3 games on my PS3, and can play PS4 and 5 games on the PS5 some day, but the PS2 remains in the weirdest land of best selling console but can't play the huge library limbo.
As it is, for me, there's nothing that is really pulling me into a launch PS5, so y'all can fight over the scraps, I'll just grab the thing some time down the road.
I wanted to grab GoW and TLoU2, so the PS5 with the PS Plus collection of PS4 titles looked great, but I think you need to pay more than just PS5 sticker price for it so I am in zero rush. Plus I assume Horizon Zero Dawn 2 will come to PC one day, so I'll just wait to play that as well.
I have decided I'll take a chill approach to getting one. I only want it for x-mas. If that is not possible imma buy upgrades for my PC and wait for the PS5 Pro or maybe nothing at all.
Would have been my first console since N64. Ah well
They've always gone up every generation. This is nothing new. The exclusives that PS has over PC and xbox cannot be understated. The fact that some of the PS exclusives may hit PCs later down the line is an intriguing thing for people to consider as well.
yeah, for the first time i will wait for a year, two or three to buy it. makes no sense to get it. there is no visible leap, nothing exciting etc. as it was when older generations came. does it mean sony became too big and lazy or "maximum level" is achieved in consoles world?
Good of them to acknowledge that. I was never in the running to get one on launch since I'm still in job limbo and shit sucks, but it's good news for people that got screwed.
Also good to know it's at least compatible with PS4 games. I'll keep my 2 and 3 around and working, but I skipped 4, and only really wanted to play a decent list of games for it recently. Did not want to still have to go back and get one, especially since they always promise the new console is backwards compatible.

Have they though? I’ll be 31 next month and I remember as a kid having to save the pocket money for my PS2 and Blozzard games which were like around 40 quid or so, now it’s high 40s thru 50s for current gen new console games.
The PC market got considerably cheaper for sure but against inflation games are pretty static in cost on consoles if not cheaper factoring that in.
I’m not in a huge rush to get a PS5 but I’ve skipped the whole PS4 gen and my friend moved to my area with his collection and we do game nights, so game nights and swapping would be pretty fun (I have a Switch), plus I lack things like a Blu Ray player.
There are some real must-plays I’ve missed in the current generation that I need to get caught up on, plus the next gen will bring some quality too!
May have to upgrade my PC one day but really Starcraft is all I play there, it’s too underpowered for top end gaming now but still serves me very well as a general workhorse.
Anyone know how it is with mouse and keyboard? Don't have any experience with playstation, never had one. I don't mind playing with a controller in most games but for any kind of shooter in need my mouse
You should be able to connect a mouse and keyboard setup. I think some people use the PS4 with that as well to play FF14.
@WombaT: That's generally true when factoring in inflation, but the prices still went up. Remember, it's only been 20 years since PS2 launched. We've gotten 3 generations that went from 50$ to 70$ or somewhere around there. With each new generation, the prices have gone up 5-10$ each time.
I'd say give it a few weeks and follow the twitter (though they say "next few days"). Hopefully Sony told the retailers to stop fucking about and do it properly this time. Worst case, you'll have to camp outside a store :p
Looks like you can snag peoples pre orders all over eBay for just 100$ more. Then also there is someone who has 450+ watchers, 73 bids, and it is bidding for $60,400.00 for the Digital download console version. What is wrong with people. lol
Was told the other day about a guy who bought 11 PS5s. And another dude who got the Sony invite or something similar and gamed the site to get 5 for his friends. It's ludicrous.
If you didn’t get a chance to snag a PlayStation 5 when initial pre-orders went live last week, you’ll have a chance to try and buy one tomorrow. GameStop says it will have additional PS5 stock available to pre-order on September 25th both online and in store.
We are pleased to announce that further quantities of PS5 consoles will be made available to pre-order at https://t.co/hfsGYTcy0V and in GameStop stores tomorrow, Friday 9/25. pic.twitter.com/EbRMkAe5RW
— GameStop (@GameStop) September 24, 2020 In a subsequent tweet, the retailer said it’s working on securing more Digital Edition units for people to pre-order, but tomorrow’s availability will only include the more expensive $499 model with disk drive. Neither tweet mentions when online pre-orders will go live. So we’ve reached out to the company for more information and we’ll update this story when we hear back.
To say the initial batch of PS5 pre-orders left people disappointed would be an understatement. While pre-orders were supposed to be available on September 17th, many retails started let people reserve a console as soon as Sony’s showcase event ended on the 16th. The company ending up apologizing for what happened, and said more units would be available to pre-order in the coming days. The PS5 officially goes on sale on November 12th.

well the graphic is straight up downgrade from FFXV .p its soOO bad that they had to put most combats at night to hide the unfinished aspects of the game

This is likely why most AAA titles does CG stuff. Sometimes even up until release.
I think it's refreshing to see the work being done beforehand. Maybe it'll make the final version seem more refined or masks any deficiencies that are there. Seeing a little of the combat and the eikon calls during combat was pretty cool. The CG was stellar as always.
So looking at websites for preorders shows, of course, different bundles being offered. I wonder if it would be possible to trade bundles. I'd take Spider-Man and Demon's Souls over Spider-Man and Destruction All Stars.
The ending is kind of BS. How did they did not have Jin and Yuna together. Jin no longer has a family, no matter what choice you make regarding your Uncle. She's the only family he possibly has now.
Also how can a Shogun disband a clan, doesn't that responsibility fully rest with the Emperor even in Medieval Japan?
They also seem to have boxed themselves in regarding future stories. The second invasion happens in 8 years, far too short to have you play as Jin and Yuna's kid. That and it only takes place as at Sea before the typhoon hits.
I can't even conceive of a reason to buy a PS5 that doesn't have a disc drive. How will I watch my Blu-Rays?
On the flipside, since games are released as boxed shit nowadays, you're effectively forced to be connected anyway. The games' installers always require additional downloading and the no-doubt low quality releases that have become so common in the industry will mandate patching. These release titles look polished, but only time will tell.
I expect the PS5 controllers will also work on PC no problem?? Interested in getting PS5, even more so if I can use controller on my PC as well. I expect they'll be quality controllers etc.
When they say backwards compatible, how far backwards are we talking here? PS4 games are one thing. PS2 games on the other hand... PS1 games... We're talking some legendary games. Sure, they haven't all aged well.
If youre not one to buy a lot of games is there a reason to buy the disc drive version?? I own a PS4 and only ever bought 2 physical copies of games the rest were digital. My hard drive is close to full but I still have some room left.
Not really. There are sure to be some pretty decent special editions coming out for games that only come with physical discs, so that's one reason for me. The other is of course blu Ray capability. But if you're not into collecting artbooks or figures, don't worry about it.
I plan to purchase this as my first ever PS console. If I want to play PS4 games like God of War, I can get the digital edition PS5 and just DL god of war from the shop right?
Physical PS games are at least 10 bucks cheaper than DL versions in Germany. I find it very hard to find any argument to buy the Digital Edition, because if i buy about 7 games the differnce in price already paid for the drive. And i would argue that most people buy more than 7 games for their PS5.
Ah I didn't know that. I also didn't consider that I would have to pay ~60 euros for God of War digital while I can buy it for 10 euros used. So nvm, disc version for me for sure.
It's still wild to me that there were so few extra opportunities to pre-order that weren't the first day, and that there's so little information about how to buy moving forward
Destruction All Stars is delayed until early next year. I just got an email telling my order was delayed. Going to have to wait until I get more information about it. They can take the game out and give me something different. I don't care lol.
so i dont have a pre-order. any chance you think the stores will have some overstock supply available for walk ins??? i would imagine that is a must, but ive seen console releases go sideways. might have to pull out my tent.
The official website for Final Fantasy 16 launched Thursday morning, including tons of details expanding on information from the reveal trailer.
For one, we learn the protagonist’s name: Clive Rosfield. He is indeed the older brother of the red-wearing child from the trailer, Joshua Rosfield. There’s also Jill Warrick, a childhood friend to the Rosfield brothers, who isn’t from their homeland but was raised alongside them. The character bios hint at a tragedy that occurs between the two brothers involving Ifrit that causes Clive to start on a “dangerous road to revenge.” Uh-oh.
Joshua is a Dominant, meaning he has the ability to call upon his nation’s related Eikon, Phoenix. Most nations in the world of Valisthea are built around Mothercrystals, huge crystal mountains that supply aether to the areas around them. Each Mothercrystal has an affiliated Eikon, which Final Fantasy fans will recognize as the summons (or primals or eidolons) from previous games.
Each Eikon picks a Dominant to bestow its power upon, and while some nations hold their Dominants to high positions and praise, other nations condemn theirs.
Final Fantasy 16 is in development on PlayStation 5; publisher Square Enix has yet to announce a release window. The original trailer for the game said that it would also be released on Windows PC, although Square Enix later removed the mention of the PC platform from the trailer and has not commented on the existence of a PC version.
That game could be something special depending on how they go with it. Keep it as open as FF15 but add the FF7Remake gameplay/fighting to it. If they could get some dope dungeons like they have with FF14, it could be something special indeed.
Edit: Also, if you got a pre-order in, check emails to see if they're shipping accessories. Best Buy is apparently sending out controllers. Not sure if gamestop will do the same or wait.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles India, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Russia, Risk, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Werewolves Within and Space Junkies will not be able to run on the PS5, per Ubisoft.
Still wondering if this controller will also work on PC 0_0 Got myself a PS4 controller few days ago which works perfect using DS4Windows, and i love it. Whether i get a PS5 or not I'd likely want to use PS5 controller on PC too!

Also a rumor that Gamestop will have midnight release. So maybe call around and confirm if you want one? First come first served.
awesome!! edit: from what i've read/seen it only works with steam so far (?)
Called it. This basically puts only Amazon in play. Or Gamestop shipping which is notoriously slow.
Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us! In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.
No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.
Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.
A special thank you to our entire community for your continued support this year. Here’s to the next generation of gaming!
In related news, both consoles have been charged to my account and being prepped for shipping. Here's to them getting here by launch day. I'm only really concerned for the PS5 as that's mine. But as soon as it ships and comes in, I'll post pics for you guys.
It’s finally launch week for the new generation of consoles and Sony has cleared up a ton of lingering questions about the PlayStation 5 in an exhaustive FAQ. It covered a lot of ground but perhaps the biggest takeaway is that PS5 games will be region-free. So, you won’t have to worry about whether games you import from another country will run on your new, oddly-shaped console. PlayStation 4 games were also region-free.
It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the PS5 will support the PlayStation Now service. Although the PS5 won’t run PS3, PS2 or original PlayStation game discs, at least there’s still a way for you to dive back into a library of older games on the console.
Sony has long claimed the vast majority of PlayStation 4 games will work on PS5 with very few exceptions. Some Ubisoft games may not run on the console either, but the details are unclear.
Cross-generation multiplayer will work by default. “Whether you’re playing a multiplayer PS4 game on your PS4 or PS5 (via backward compatibility), you will be able to play with other players on either console for the same game,” Sony wrote. It’s up to developers whether a PS5-specific version of their game will allow you to play with a friend who has the PS4 version of it.
Anyone having any luck getting a system? Walmart will have them back on in about 1.5 hours or so. Gamestop I'm not sure about. I'd avoid Amazon. Target and Best Buy might be the other best choices to try and snag one.

Nope. I had one in my cart and in checkout for Walmart x3, Best Buy, Target, and Costco. All of them failed in the end. I’ve given up until the next wave in a few weeks.

RIP in peace. Mine should get here tomorrow. I'll be camping outside at 9am to make sure I receive it. I want to try and snag another for my sister, but I don't think I love her that much. :p
Mine should be arriving today. But they haven't updated the tracking info in over a day. So I'm curious to what the delay is. I have no clue if they've come or not. It's weird. If my package was lost, I will riot.
So, first week of use. PS5 is incredible. Booted up Miles Morales and God of War (part of PS+ Collection). Miles Morales is amazing. Intuitive. God of War I can't really compare because I didn't play on PS4. But damn, is it a good game.
FIRST GAME TO PLAY IS ASTRO'S PLAYROOM. Trust me, you'll want to do this. It fully explores the DualSense controller. The adaptive triggers are something else. I was literally pleasantly surprised on how great it is. Play Astro's first before any game to understand the controller.
The console itself is massive. Be prepared for the weight, it is uneven. I laid mine on the side while I gamed on the projector (VGA to HDMI). It immediately boots into an update for the console and then the controller. Takes no time really.
The PS+ Collection of PS4 game is amazing (God of War is one) as it give us (me) a chance to play games they didn't with enhanced features.
EDIT: An issue with the Spider-Man game during a certain part wouldn't let me focus/target a part. A restart solved the issue. I'm not sure on other games as I've only played 3 and some were limited (excitement etc).
EDIT2: The console itself it quiet. Even after a few hours of playing, it isn't loud. I tried to get my Jabra earbuds to work but they wouldn't connect. Luckily there is a 3.5mm port on the controller for other headphones.
I'm so frustrated with f5'ing the sony direct page and the various vendors. The way they're doing sales is so pro-botting and so anti-consumer it's absurd
walmart's been simultaneously hilarious and super frustrating. i've had one in my cart for the last 2 or 3 re-stocks, and one time made it to check out ,and it just crapped out
i've recruited something like 5-6 people to help refresh but it's impossible to beat the bots
RIP in peace. They really should open up a lottery system and have them in stock in stores. But I can see a lot of danger happening because people are desperate for one.
Order online for in store pick-up at least means one person can't show up to buy 10 at a time, also slows down bots presumably because they need to pick an appropriate location
Did you have a PS4? To be honest the launch titles were kind of meh for me, but if I didn't have a PS4 I'd dig so hard into so many of the open world games
I don't have one. But the PS+ Collection is really a great deal. Playing Bloodborne now. Already beat the latest God of War. Going to get into Uncharted 4 to finish that franchise out. Then I'll give Bugsnax a go to see what they can do with the DualSense controller.
It's not that I don't have games to play on the PS5, it's just I don't want to rush through them all before more stuff comes out. The biggest thing, like you said, the games aren't really here yet. So pacing is needed. I was |_______| close to getting Demon's Souls but I remembered Bloodborne.
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan says there's "news to come" on a PlayStation response to Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft's popular subscription-based games service.
In an interview with TASS, Ryan was asked about how PlayStation will respond to Game Pass, which has become an increasingly attractive value proposition for Xbox in recent years. While not explaining exactly what the response will be, Ryan did make clear that, "There is actually news to come, but just not today."
As someone who doesn't pay any monthly subscription fees, what exactly is the difference between PS+ and xbox game pass? Is PS+ only for older stuff, whereas gamepass gives access to the newest games?
Are you trying to buy a PlayStation 5? According to boss Jim Ryan speaking with Russian outlet TASS, “absolutely everything is sold”. While there has been a trickle of PS5 stock returning to the retail channel this week, it’s gone in minutes. And the executive has revealed that, after spending much of the year ensuring there’s demand for the machine, now he’s focused on getting enough devices into the market to meet demand.
“Everything is sold. Absolutely everything is sold,” he said. “I’ve spent much of the last year trying to be sure that we can generate enough demand for the product. And now in terms of my executive bandwidth, I’m spending a lot more time on trying to increase supply to meet that demand.”
We’re still waiting for a press release on PS5’s initial sales figures, but it looks like the company sold every single console it could manufacture. The challenge it now faces is swiftly getting more units into the supply chain, because it looks like the product is poised to be difficult to find for the foreseeable future.

PS+ is just that you can play games online and you get like 2-3 games for free every month. You can't play PS games online without it. While X-BoxGame Pass (ultimate) let's you play 100s of games for the fee as long as you pay (think of netflix)
Not sure how it is now, but I think the equivalent of PS+ is Xbox Live actually PS Now is the equivalent of Game Pass
At least this was the case last I checked. Not sure what changed with the new console release

yes but you don't get access to any of the patch updates/bonuses (like ng+)
the only game out of the box that's worth not updating is the last guardian which is 4k60fps unpatched and doesn't have any notable gameplay improvements once patched.
I am actually really pissed as I have been trying to grab one since it came out, I had it in my cart and checking out / confirming purchase, and then it went out of stock again, these auto buy bots are ****ing ridiculous.... they are all sold out within seconds / minutes at the very most.
Despite its cancellation 5 years ago, one project that won't die is Kojima Productions' Silent Hills, the survival horror reboot of Konami's Silent Hill franchise from Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, and Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro. Once again, rumors have risen implying that the game is back in development, with Sony collaborating with Kojima Productions and Konami to make the game a PlayStation 5 console exclusive.
While this rumor has appeared before, numerous times in fact, this time it comes from an industry insider, YouTuber Moore's Law is Dead, who previously leaked the sequel to 2018's God of War ahead of its announcement. In the latest episode of the Broken Silicon podcast, host Tom, claims that he can "almost confirm" that Silent Hills is in development for PlayStation 5 from Kojima Productions, for announcement at The Game Awards 2020.
In the same podcast, he also claims that Demon's Souls remake developer Bluepoint's next game will be a Metal Gear Solid remake, another collaboration with Konami. Reportedly, this remake of Metal Gear Solid has been in development for three years, with PlayStation 5 system architect Mark Cerny directly involved with the game's development. He also claims that despite them being far in development, with gameplay demos ready to be revealed at upcoming events, Sony is waiting to announce the games as it does not want to repeat the mistakes Microsoft made when revealing Halo Infinite.
While this report sounds exciting, and it also touches on recent rumors that Sony is acting as a peacekeeper between Hideo Kojima and Konami after the public fallout the famed director had with the company during the months approaching Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain's release in 2015, which resulted in the cancellation of Silent Hills. While it is believable that Silent Hills could be announced at The Game Awards 2020, given Hideo Kojima's relationship with host Geoff Keighley, it is worth noting that Kojima only began development on his next project last month. That said, Death Stranding was announced only six months after Sony announced its partnership with Hideo Kojima, meaning Kojima does have a history of announcing games very early in development.
Given that Moore's Law is Dead has yet to reveal his sources, who wish to remain anonymous, it is worth taking this information with a huge grain of salt, especially as the host is mostly echoing previous rumors made regarding Silent Hills for PlayStation 5. Also, given the trouble that Hideo Kojima went through resulting in his very open departure from Konami, it is understandable why the director would not want to reunite with the publisher, along with Guillermo del Toro's claims that he refuses to return to video game development unless it is to collaborate with Kojima, which he did previously, portraying Deadman in Death Stranding.
It is also worth mentioning that, while it was initially playable at launch, P.T. was recently made unplayable on PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility, meaning Konami is still likely trying to make fans forget that Silent Hills was ever a thing.
Just as the dust has begun to settle on the PS5 and Xbox Series X console launches, with the Microsoft flagship officially crowned the most powerful video game console on Earth, comes what could be our very first hint at Sony's incoming PS5 Pro counter attack.
That's because in an official Sony Interactive Entertainment patent published this year the console maker describes a new games console that comes with not just one graphics card, but two. A two-GPU next-gen games console? Whoa!
The patent describes a 'scalable game console' where 'a second GPU [is] communicatively coupled to the first GPU' and that the system is for 'home console and cloud gaming' usage.
To us here at T3 that suggests a next-gen PlayStation console, most likely a new PS5 Pro flagship, supercharged with two graphics cards instead of just one. These would both come in the APU (accelerated processing unit) format that the PlayStation 5's system-on-a-chip (SoC) do, with two custom made AMD APUs working together to deliver enhanced gaming performance and cloud streaming.
The official Sony patent notes that, 'plural SoCs may be used to provide a “high-end” version of the console with greater processing and storage capability', while 'the “high end” system can also contain more memory such as random-access memory (RAM) and other features and may also be used for a cloud-optimized version using the same game console chip with more performance.'
And, with the PlayStation 5 console only marginally weaker on paper than the Xbox Series X (the PS5 delivers 10.28 teraflops compared to the Xbox Series X's 12 teraflops), a new PS5 Pro console that comes with two APUs rather than one, improving local gaming performance as well as cloud gaming, would be no doubt the Xbox Series X as king of the next-gen consoles death blow.
The cloud gaming part of the patent is particularly interesting, too, as it seems to suggest that this technology could not just find itself in a new flagship PS5 Pro console, but also in more streamlined cloud-based hardware, too. An upgraded PS5 Digital Edition seems a smart bet, as too the much-rumoured PSP 5G.
And, simply put, the other big question this patent raises is that if this technology does lead to a PS5 Pro console, is Microsoft prepared? Right now Microsoft is still nursing its wounds from the last-gen console war, where it was firmly beaten by Sony (Sony sold more than twice the amount of PS4 consoles than Microsoft sold Xbox One consoles), so without facing down any new hardware from Sony with something as good if not better, it would leave itself exposed to a second straight console-gen defeat.

This. I decided to get a switch this season. The deals for games on the switch have been really good this season too. It's a great season for Nintendo. I'll wait a year or two for the PS5 instead now. Hopefully more people will think like me and Sony will see this happen.
If a Pro comes out, it'll be 2023 at the earliest, 2025 at the latest. They haven't saturated the market enough just yet and dropping a pro would piss a lot of people off (namely bundle buyers like me who could have just gotten a pro for the price). Though, it would be great to screw over the scalpers.
I mean pricing won't drop until holiday season 2021 at the earliest, there's entire libraries of PS4 games that will run and look amazing on the PS5, if you can get it at retail price why not get it now?
Dropping a PS5 Pro within 2 years of release of the original product will definitely sour people who already bought one, and let's be clear unless they start making PS5 exclusives way earlier than probably currently anticipated, you won't be able to fully utilize the power until the PS4 is end of life which means there's no clear benefit
After all of the hype about how massive this thing is, it still fights in the same cabinet next to my switch so functionally it's replaced my PS4. Did all of my save and game transfers, deleted my profile, time to sell my PS4 and recoup some $$
I will do astros to start for sure, the haptic stuff looks cool. GoT is ghost of tsushima, the game looked and played great on ps4 so im excited to look for improvements
So. Update. When I boot the PS5 up from rest mode, I get a loud noise from what I assume is the fan. I'm not sure if there is something loose or what, but it's a good buzz. I want to take it apart to investigate, but I'm not willing to fuck up my warranty.
On December 08 2020 02:43 farvacola wrote: damn man I sure that doesnt happen to mine, let us know if you find a fix
From reading, it could be the fan sizes are different and causing the buzzing noise (rumor is there are 5 different fans installed). The noise only lasts 5 seconds and it could very well be the disc (still have SpiderMan disc loaded) that is causing it. It's currently vertical, so that could be a factor in this as well.
When it goes away or there's more veracity to the rumors and a solution proffered, I'll let you all know. But this is the first run. I'm not too concerned.
EDIT: So yeah. It was the disc. I just ejected it and it shut right up. I'm thinking vertical standing with a disc loaded is going to be an issue for some.
Imma thinking about playing some games during the xmas, it won't be CP2k77 no matter what CDPR will do. So, my eye landed on: Beyond Two Souls, A Plague Tale: Innocence, Code Vein and Valkyries Chronicles 4
What I like - easy to play games with a rich story - e.g. Uncharted, TLOU, NieR Automata. Any of these are good/close? Seems good to me, but since I am not a big PS player...
Don't recommend God of War, Ghost of T. and RDR2. Those games didn't fit with me for various reasons(mostly setting of the game).
Edit> damn, this is PS5 not PS4 xD I hope you won't mind, was just searching for Playstation, didn't check which one is this xD
I was able to score a PS5 today at the walmart drop! I kept getting unlucky but kept trying to add to my cart and it finally worked! But it won't ship till Jan 8th, oh well... I got one for Jan! Hype!
Yeah, I cannot wait to take a break from PC gaming and just relax in front of the console (especially due to covid) , just relax / smoke and game. Hype to play through cyber punk
I'd wait a couple months for Cyberpunk to let them smooth things out so you get a vastly better experience on PS5 (plus wait for the actual CP2077 PS5 game/patch).
But yeah, it's a lovely thing. I haven't touched mine since CP2077 came out. But I'm waiting a few weeks for some other other games to come down too.
Walmart has blocked over 20 million bot attempts to buy a PS5. Taking to the official corporate Walmart website, Chief Information Security Officer Jerry Geisler revealed how the retailer has combated "grinch bots" that "are trying to steal would-be presents." As Geisler notes, blocking bots isn't easy as bot scripts are constantly being evolved and re-written to get around the work retailers do to halt them. That said, Geisler notes it's working hard and updating its bot detection tools regularly in order to make sure customers have a chance of getting not just the new PlayStation, but the Xbox Series X as well.
Adding to this, Geisler notes that when its first PS5 pre-orders went live on November 25, the retailer blocked not one, not two, but 20 million bot attempts within just the first 30 minutes. Building on this, it also audits and quickly cancels any orders that it confirms were purchased by bots. As a result, Geisler claims the "vast majority" of next-gen consoles have been purchase by actual real Walmart customers.
Concluding, Geisler reveals that the retailer has a restock for both next-gen consoles coming soon, but, unfortunately, this is the extent of specificity.
"We have more next-gen consoles coming online soon, and we’re continuing to work hard to get them into the hands of as many customers as possible," said Geisler. "We hope others across the retail industry will join us by asking lawmakers to do more to prevent these unwanted bots on retail sites, so customers have equal access to the products they want."

This is amazing, and really why it took so long for me and many others to even be able to purchase it. I got lucky and used the API Link to automatically add to cart, but I am not a bot so.
I am really enjoying it, although it kind of sucks you have to pay to play online, and it seems really hard to find local co op games to play with friends. And the user interface can be kind of confusing at times, been playing cyber punk, and it is kind of overwhelming the amount of people that contact you / jobs lol, seems like there is no direction, but its still really fun. soon i will be playing godfall if anyone has it and wants to play with.
There's a main storyline to follow and a secondary one with Johnny. After that there is basically roaming around quests. Definitely under the overwhelming feeling.
Paying for online access sucks for sure, but it pays for itself once the monthly games start to kick in.
Ice been trying to beat all the old PS4 games. Uncharted 4 done. Bloodborne done. Days Gone started.
That didn't take long. With Sony now being sued all big three are being sued due to problems with their controllers.
A US law firm has filed a class action against Sony over alleged PlayStation 5 DualSense drift.
This week Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (CSK&D), the firm behind the ongoing class action against Nintendo over Joy-Con drift, asked affected customers to get in touch via an online form.
Clearly, that call to action did the trick. The DualSense lawsuit has now been filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of a plaintiff called Lmarc Turner, of Virginia, and other affected customers in the US against Sony Corporation of America and Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The complaint, filed on 12th February and seen by Eurogamer, claims the DualSense is "defective".
"Specifically, the DualSense controllers that are used to operate the PS5 contain a defect that results in characters or gameplay moving on the screen without user command or manual operation of the joystick.
"This defect significantly interferes with gameplay and thus compromises the DualSense controller's core functionality."
The complaint cites multiple online reports of DualSense drift on reddit and social media, including the tweet below that includes a clip of apparent drift while playing Rogue Company:
The complaint goes on to accuse Sony of being aware of this alleged DualSense drift via online consumer complaints, claims the company equipped the DualSense with "virtually the same analog components" as the DualSense 4, which reportedly suffered from drift, and that options for repair are "slim".
"Customers are experiencing long wait times and having to deal with a maze of pre-recorded phone prompts before finally speaking with an agent concerning repairs for DualSense controller drift," reads the complaint, which points out customers must pay for shipping the controller to a Sony repair center even for in-warranty repairs.
Turner is said to have bought a PS5 on 5th February 2021 and experienced DualSense drift on the same day. He contacted Sony customer service and was advised to reset his console, which didn't work. Turner ended up buying another DualSense controller priced $69.99 a few days later.
"Had Plaintiff been aware of the drift defect prior to purchasing his PS5, he otherwise would not have purchased the PS5, or would have paid substantially less for it," reads the complaint.
The complaint claims Turner agreed to Sony's PlayStation terms of service and user agreement upon setup of his PS5, but wrote to Sony expressing his intent to opt out of resolving any disputes with the company through individual arbitration.
This is an important point in the context of CSK&D's ongoing case against Nintendo over Joy-Con drift. CSK&D filed a class action against Nintendo of America in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington back in 2019 over Joy-Con drift after a similar call for affected customers to get in touch. The Court compelled the case to arbitration, although it declined to dismiss the case. CSK&D says it's currently working to pursue the case through the arbitration process. Clearly, it's hoping to avoid going down that route with the DualSense case.
The complaint demands a jury trial, with the plaintiff seeking monetary relief "for damages suffered, declaratory relief, and public injunctive relief". Sony has yet to comment.
Controller drift has become a significant issue in recent years. There's an ongoing class action against Microsoft for "stick drift" on Xbox One controllers, which also includes specific reference to the company's most recent Elite controller, the Elite Series 2.
And in January 2021, the European Commission confirmed plans to consider potential action against Nintendo over Joy-Con drift, prompted by calls for it to act from its own European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), which received more than 25,000 complaints from numerous countries.
Thought this was worth a separate thread. This's as of Q3 so any deals done in Q4 (Jan-March 2021) could increase this further, and since this covers a period of 7 years it means some of these projects have obviously not been announced yet.
PS5 is still a pretty dope machine. I play mine here and there (mostly stuck on PC with FF14) and I am in love with it when I do play. Once I upgrade my entertainment system (READ: actually purchase one) I'll probably never leave it for PC again.
Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida appeared this week on the Tokyo FM radio show One Morning, where he briefly talked about the development of the upcoming game. Much like Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake, the latest chapter in Square Enix's long-running RPG series will be more "action-oriented," but not at the expense of its story.
"Final Fantasy XVI is quite action-oriented. It's a Final Fantasy featuring story and action," Yoshida said during the radio show as translated by Gematsu. "We really want players to enjoy the story, so we're preparing a mode for players who want to focus on story. Since we have quite the substantial support actions, we're of course preparing something easy to operate and smooth to play."
As for the actual storyline, Yoshida hinted at a tale of hardship that adults could relate to, as he felt that certain challenges could only be understood by an older generation that had experienced "the good and bad of reality."
"I'm from the generation that has been playing the Final Fantasy series from the first game in real-time. I'm almost in my 50s," Yoshida said. "I believe there are certain hardships that are experienced when becoming an adult, so I want to make the main theme of this game something that those who grew up playing Final Fantasy and understand reality can still enjoy, get something out of, and think about."
Development on Final Fantasy XVI appears to be going smoothly, as its reveal at last year's PlayStation 5 showcase had plenty of gameplay footage to show off. In a new recruitment page for Final Fantasy XVI, Square Enix mentioned that basic development and scenario production had already wrapped up, with the team seeking new recruits to work on specific set-pieces using large-scale resources.
More than four years ago, we launched PlayStation VR to offer a transformative new way to play games on PS4, providing a much stronger sense of presence and deeper immersion to players compared with traditional games. In that time, we’ve seen tremendous experiences that have propelled virtual reality gaming forward, including highly acclaimed titles like Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Tetris Effect, Blood & Truth, Moss, Beat Saber, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard. We’ve also enhanced the experience for some PS VR titles when played on PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5.
Today I’m pleased to share that our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity. Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.
We’re continuing to innovate with our new VR system so that our fans can continue to enjoy the unique experiences that are synonymous with PlayStation. We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input. It will connect to PS5 with a single cord to simplify setup and improve ease-of-use, while enabling a high-fidelity visual experience.
One of the innovations we’re excited about is our new VR controller, which will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics. That’s just one of the examples of future-proof technology we’re developing to match our vision for a whole new generation of VR games and experiences.
There’s still a lot of development underway for our new VR system, so it won’t be launching in 2021. But we wanted to provide this early update to our fans, as the development community has started to work on creating new worlds for you to explore in virtual reality.
We also want to thank all of our PS VR players for your continued support — with upcoming games like After The Fall, Sniper Elite VR, and Humanity, there’s much more to come for PS VR whether you’re playing on PS4 or PS5. With both PlayStation VR and the next-generation VR system we’re building, our commitment to virtual reality as a medium for games is stronger than ever. We look forward to sharing more details in the future!
The real-life island of Tsushima will be honouring the work of Sucker Punch Productions by making both the game director and creative director of Ghost of Tsushima permanent tourism ambassadors. Tsushima mayor Hiroki Hitakatsu said this is being done because the pair have "spread the name and history of Tsushima to the whole world in such a wonderful way", making them the first ambassadors to be awarded for sharing the name and history of the island through their works. Sony will now collaborate with Tsushima island to set up a new tourism campaign, designed to teach fans about the place and its historic landmarks.
In a statement, Hitakatsu said: "Even a lot of Japanese people do not know the history of the Gen-ko period. When it comes to the world, the name and location of Tsushima is literally unknown, so I cannot thank them enough for telling our story with such phenomenal graphics and profound stories." Nate Fox (game director) and Jason Connell (creative director) will receive an award and letter of appreciation to mark their efforts.
The mayor then goes on to explain that he didn't appoint them as ambassadors to ensure any sort of collaboration in the future — this is all about Ghost of Tsushima. "I did not appoint them for the purpose of having them do anything in the future. Thanks to the two of them, Sucker Punch Productions, and SIE, I have heard from people all over the world who have learned about Tsushima through their works, and now want to see, know, and go to Tsushima." One example of this would be the fanbase's pledge to help restore a damaged Torii Gate on the island, which went on to surpass its funding goal by more than 500 per cent.
That campaign finished this past Sunday after more than 2,000 contributions. Yuichi Hirayama, one of Tsushima Watatsumi Shrine's priests, said: "We have received a great deal of support from the players of the Ghost of Tsushima game set in Tsushima, and I feel that it is God’s guidance. I am very grateful for the support of so many people during a cramped life due to the coronavirus and the challenging economic situation."
Sony has a newly formed studio under its' umbrella.
It’s been a strange and difficult past 12 months. The pandemic, social injustice, and job elimination have impacted many of my closest friends, family, and co-workers. All of these factors, paired with an inability to see friends and family face-to-face, lulled me into a kind of self-reflective cocoon where I had to ask myself some tough questions about what really matters.
I’ve been making games for a long time — over 25 years now! I’ve had the opportunity to lead the creation of two highly successful original IPs and build multiple teams and studios from the ground up. Some of these adventures have been more successful than I could have ever imagined, and others less so.
Several people have asked me recently: “After all of these experiences, do you still want to be in the games industry?” The answer is always an unwavering YES! The games industry is where I belong!
Whether it’s playing Settlers of Catan with my kids or Valheim with my team, games continue to bring me joy. They’re a way to relax, connect, and share experiences with people I care about. And the act of making games is, in many ways, even more fulfilling. Getting to bring together experts across so many different creative fields – from music composers, to concept artists, to programmers (yes! programmers are creative too!) into a perfectly synched orchestra that delivers new worlds for players to explore. For me, there is nothing more fulfilling or rewarding I can imagine doing.
As I took stock of my career over the last few years and started to think about what to do next, I came to a very simple conclusion: I need to get back to what I love doing most, and do so in a way that gives our team the freedom to explore, inspire, and create.
And so today I’m announcing Haven, an independent studio where many of the talented game developers I have worked with for years (and love dearly!) are coming together to do what we are most passionate about. It’s time for us to refocus on GAMES in a place where we can practice our crafts without any barriers or impediments. We want to create worlds where players can escape, have fun, express themselves, and find community. We want to pour our passion into a project. We want to make something wondrous for people to experience. Because we believe in the power of games to bring joy to people’s lives. And Sony does, too. Their commitment to excellence is unmatched. It’s why I couldn’t be happier for their backing and support.
Together, we want to create games that are a haven for players, and we want to build a studio that is a haven for developers. So, while we don’t have many details to announce today, I want the PlayStation community to know that Haven Studios is already hard at work on an unannounced IP. We can’t wait to show you more!
Following the recent reveal of our next-generation virtual reality system for PS5, I’m excited to unveil more details about the new controller that will play a critical role in providing gamers with the VR experience we’re working to deliver. Our new VR controller speaks to our mission of achieving a much deeper sense of presence and stronger feeling of immersion in VR experiences. It will build upon the innovation we introduced with the DualSense wireless controller, which changed how games “feel” on PS5 by unlocking a new way to tap into the sense of touch. Now we’re bringing that innovation to VR gaming.
Design
The first thing you’ll notice with our next-gen VR controller is the unique design, which takes on an “orb” shape that allows you to hold the controller naturally, while playing with a high degree of freedom. There are no constraints with how you’re moving your hands, providing developers with the ability to create unique gameplay experiences.
We also designed the new controller with great ergonomics in mind, so it’s well-balanced and comfortable to hold in each of your hands. We applied learnings from testing users with a range of hand sizes, as well as the decades of insights from controllers across all PlayStation platforms. The result is an iconic design that will change how VR games are played.
Features
The new VR controller enables players to feel and interact with games in a much more visceral way. There are several features, including key features from the DualSense controller, which match our vision for what next-generation VR games can be.
● Adaptive triggers: Each VR controller (Left and Right) includes an adaptive trigger button that adds palpable tension when pressed, similar to what’s found in the DualSense controller. If you’ve played a PS5 game, you’ll be familiar with the tension in the L2 or R2 buttons when you press them, such as when you’re drawing your bow to fire an arrow. When you take that kind of mechanic and apply it to VR, the experience is amplified to the next level.
● Haptic feedback: The new controller will have haptic feedback optimized for its form factor, making every sensation in the game world more impactful, textured and nuanced. When you’re traversing through rocky desert or trading blows in melee combat, you’ll feel the difference, magnifying the extraordinary visual and audio experience that’s so central to VR.
● Finger touch detection: The controller can detect your fingers without any pressing in the areas where you place your thumb, index, or middle fingers. This enables you to make more natural gestures with your hands during gameplay.
● Tracking: The VR controller is tracked by the new VR headset through a tracking ring across the bottom of the controller.
● Action buttons / analog sticks: The Left controller contains one analog stick, the triangle and square buttons, a “grip” button (L1), trigger button (L2) and Create button. The Right controller contains one analog stick, the cross and circle buttons, a “grip” button (R1), trigger button (R2) and Options button. The “grip” button can be used to pick up in-game objects, as one example.
SIE’s Product, Engineering, and Design teams have collaborated to build our new VR controller from the ground up with a goal of making a huge leap from current-gen VR gaming. We’re thrilled with the controller we developed, but what matters now is how game creators will take advantage of the features to design the next generation of VR experiences. Prototypes of our new VR controller will be in the hands of the development community soon, and we can’t wait to see what ideas they come up with and how the controller helps bring their imagination to life!
There’s still much more to share about the next-generation of VR on PS5. On behalf of all of us at SIE, I want to thank you for taking this journey with us!
If Daisuke Tsuji isn't picked to star as Jin then what is the point? He has done TV, and film before.
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are developing a film adaptation of the hugely successful action adventure game Ghost of Tsushima, with Chad Stahelski attached to direct. The game recently crossed a massive milestone of selling over 6.5 million copies since its July 2020 debut.
The game is developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and centers around samurai warrior Jin Sakai, the last surviving member of his clan, who must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.
Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Spitz are producing through their company 87Eleven Entertainment. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will produce on behalf of PlayStation Productions. Sucker Punch Productions will serve as Executive Producers. Peter Kang is overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions.
Ghost of Tsushima is PlayStation 4’s fastest selling first-party original IP debut, selling more than 2.4 million units worldwide in its first 3 days. The game was one of the top nominees for the Game Awards 2020 with several nominations, including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Performer for Daisuke Tsuji. This will mark the second film to come out of the partnership between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, with Uncharted currently in post-production and set to be released on February 11, 2022. Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are also developing the TV series The Last of Us for HBO, with Craig Mazin attached to write and executive produce.
Stahelski is about to start shooting John Wick 4, after directing the first three films. The films have become a massive box office success surpassing $600 million worldwide. He is represented by WME and attorney Tara Kole.
These are the #PlayAtHome games just released today. There will be more coming out through the months (really looking forward to Horizon to see how it looks on PS5).
Sony Corp.’s Visual Arts Service Group has long been the unsung hero of many hit PlayStation video games. The San Diego-based operation helps finish off games designed at other Sony-owned studios with animation, art or other content and development. But about three years ago, a handful of influential figures within the Visual Arts Service Group decided they wanted to have more creative control and lead game direction rather than being supporting actors on popular titles such as Spider-Man and Uncharted.
Michael Mumbauer, who founded the Visual Arts Service Group in 2007, recruited a group of about 30 developers, internally and from neighboring game studios, to form a new development unit within Sony. The idea was to expand upon some of the company’s most successful franchises and the team began working on a remake of the 2013 hit The Last of Us for the PlayStation 5. But Sony never fully acknowledged the team’s existence or gave them the funding and support needed to succeed in the highly competitive video game market, according to people involved. The studio never even got its own name. Instead, Sony moved ownership of the The Last of Us remake to its original creator, Naughty Dog, a Sony-owned studio behind many of the company’s best-selling games and an HBO television series in development.
Deflated, the small group’s leadership has largely disbanded, according to interviews with eight people familiar with the operation. Many, including Mumbauer, have left the company entirely. Mumbauer declined to comment and others asked not to be named discussing private information. A representative for Sony declined to comment or provide interviews.
The team’s failure highlights the complex hierarchy of video game development and in particular, Sony’s conservative approach to making games for the PlayStation 5. The Japanese conglomerate owns about a dozen studios across the world as part of its PlayStation Studios label, but in recent years it has prioritized games made by its most successful developers. Studios such as Santa Monica, California-based Naughty Dog and Amsterdam-based Guerrilla Games spend tens of millions of dollars to make games with the expectation that the investments will pay off exponentially. And they usually do. Hits including 2018’s God of War and 2020’s The Last of Us Part II are exclusive to PlayStation consoles, helping Sony sell some 114 million of the PS4. Rival Microsoft Corp. has taken the opposite approach, relying on a wide array of studios to feed its Netflix-like subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, which allows users to pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to a variety of games.
Sony’s focus on exclusive blockbusters has come at the expense of niche teams and studios within the PlayStation organization, leading to high turnover and less choice for players. Last week, Sony reorganized a development office in Japan, resulting in mass departures of people who worked on less well-known but acclaimed games such as Gravity Rush and Everybody's Golf. The company has informed developers that it no longer wants to produce smaller games that are only successful in Japan, Bloomberg has reported.
This fixation on teams that churn out hits is creating unrest across Sony's portfolio of game studios. Oregon-based Sony Bend, best known for the 2019 open-world action game Days Gone, tried unsuccessfully to pitch a sequel that year, according to people familiar with the proposal. Although the first game had been profitable, its development had been lengthy and critical reception was mixed, so a Days Gone 2 wasn’t seen as a viable option.
Instead, one team at the studio was assigned to help Naughty Dog with a multiplayer game while a second group was assigned to work on a new Uncharted game with supervision from Naughty Dog. Some staff, including top leads, were unhappy with this arrangement and left. Bend's developers feared they might be absorbed into Naughty Dog, and the studio’s leadership asked to be taken off the Uncharted project. They got their wish last month and are now working on a new game of their own.
Emphasizing big hits can also be counterproductive because sometimes games that start small can turn into massive successes. In 2020, Sony didn’t put much marketing muscle behind the quirky video game creation system Dreams, by the PlayStation-owned Media Molecule in the U.K. As a result, PlayStation may have missed out on its own version of Roblox, a similar video game tool. Parent company Roblox Corp. went public earlier this year and is now valued at $45 billion.
For their first solo project, Mumbauer and his crew wanted to pitch something that would be well received by their bosses at Sony. Recognizing the risks and expense involved with developing a new game from scratch, they decided to focus on remaking older games for the new PlayStation 5. Remakes are considered a safe bet since it’s cheaper to update and polish an old game than it is to start from scratch, and they can be sold both to nostalgic old fans and curious new ones. The team originally planned on a remake of the first Uncharted game, released by Naughty Dog in 2007. That idea quickly fizzled because it would be expensive and require too much added design work. Instead, the team settled on a remake of Naughty Dog’s 2013 melancholic zombie hit, The Last of Us.
At the time, Naughty Dog was in the thick of development on the sequel, The Last of Us Part II, which would introduce higher-fidelity graphics and new gameplay features. If Mumbauer’s crew remade the first game to have a similar look and feel, the two games could be packaged together for the PlayStation 5. In theory, this would be a less expensive proposition than remaking Uncharted, since The Last of Us was more modern and wouldn’t require too many gameplay overhauls. Then, once Mumbauer’s group had established itself, it could go on to remake the first Uncharted game and other titles down the road.
But pivoting from doing finishing work for other games to making your own is difficult, since original development teams are “competing against hundreds of other teams from all over the world, with varying levels of experiences and successes,” said Dave Lang, founder of Iron Galaxy Studios, which has served as a support team and a development studio.
“The people funding the work are often risk-averse, and if they have to pick between a team that’s done it before, and someone trying to do it on their own for the first time, I can see why some people pick the prior developer over the latter,” he said.
That’s just what Sony did. Mumbauer’s project, code-named T1X, was approved on a probationary basis, but Sony kept the team’s existence a secret, and refused to give them a budget to hire more people, leading many to wonder if the company was really committed to letting the team build a new studio. Still, the small team kept working and by the spring of 2019 they had completed a section of the game designed to showcase how the rest would look and feel.
At that time, Sony was going through a management shuffle and the new boss wasn’t impressed. Hermen Hulst, the former head of Guerrilla Games, was named head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios in November 2019. He thought the remake project was too expensive, according to people familiar with the matter, and asked why the planned budget for T1X was so much higher than remakes Sony had made in the past. The reason was that this one was on a brand new graphical engine for the PlayStation 5. Mumbauer needed to hire more people to help rework the graphics on new technology as well as redesign gameplay mechanics. Hulst wasn’t convinced, the people said.
Just when it hoped to enter production on the remake of The Last of Us, Mumbauer’s team got called in to help when another big game fell behind. Release of The Last of Us Part II had been pushed to 2020 from 2019 and Naughty Dog needed the Visual Arts Service Group to polish it off. Most of Mumbauer’s team, along with some of the 200 or so other staff at the Visual Arts Service Group, was assigned to support Naughty Dog, slowing down progress on its own game.
Then, the roles got reversed. Sony sent word that after the completion of The Last of Us Part II, some people from Naughty Dog would help out with T1X. Mumbauer’s team saw this as their short-lived autonomy being stripped. Dozens of Naughty Dog staff were joining the project, and some had actually worked on the original The Last of Us, giving them more weight in discussions about T1X’s direction. The game was moved under Naughty Dog’s budget, which Sony gave more leeway than the Visual Arts Service Group. Soon it was apparent that Naughty Dog was in charge, and the dynamics returned to what they had been for the last decade and a half: The Visual Arts Support Group aiding another team of developers rather than leading.
To Sony, the move made sense. Naughty Dog is “one of the key studios” for Sony’s ability to sell PlayStations, said Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Matthew Kanterman. “Sony’s competitive advantage has always been exclusive content over Microsoft and more new games as well as remakes of classic titles from such a storied team can help sustain demand for PS5.”
But those who had wanted independence were disappointed. By the end of 2020, most of the T1X team’s top staff had left, including Mumbauer and the game’s director, David Hall. Today, the T1X project remains in development at Naughty Dog with assistance from Sony’s Visual Arts Support Group. The future of the remainder of Mumbauer’s team, which has come to be jokingly referred to as Naughty Dog South, remains unclear.
There are things happening at Sony that I don't get. The massive influx of 8-bit indie games and the seemingly lengthy dev times between games for one. Not allowing some of your more veteran devs create is an issue that I take umbrage with. Like the article said, Dreams could have been HUGE. Sony wasted an opportunity. Same with not bringing back Killzone.
It didn't really need one. That's just Sony double dipping and people falling for it. They really are turning into Nintendo when it comes to exclusive. Slowly but surely.

One of the shops here is sending their PS5s for Cze directly abroad because this way they have bigger value. SO people here who are on the backorder are getting e-mails - soon, not soon, soon, not soon - and are getting very happy.
(and sadly I got this confirmed from other sources than bitter customers)

That's messed up. I'm just glad I got on the first pre-order wave. If I didn't there's no telling when I would have gotten one. I'd be furious if I was a Czech customer being toyed with like that though.
This seems to be the answer on why MS broke off talks to acquire Discord a while ago.
At PlayStation, we’re constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect with one another, form new friendships and communities, and share fun experiences and lasting memories. It’s in this spirit that we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communication service popularized by gamers and used by more than 140 million people every month around the world.
Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.
To bring these experiences to life for our players, Sony Interactive Entertainment has made a minority investment as part of Discord’s Series H round. From our very first conversation with co-founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, I was inspired by their lifelong love for gaming and our teams’ shared passion to help bring friends and communities together in new ways. Empowering players to create communities and enjoy shared gaming experiences is at the heart of what we do, so we are beyond excited to start this journey with one of the world’s most popular communication services.
It’s always a privilege to work with great partners to bring fresh experiences to our fans, and we’ll have more to share in the coming months. Stay tuned to our channels and @Discord for all the latest updates.
Yeah, the game is pretty short. They're sticking with it though, as SQEX says there were enough players to justify making it a franchise. So here's to hope that they drop some DLC soon or open up an arena type thing. It's pretty bland atm.

I wouldn't say short. I played a good amount of time for the money and I'm happy with that. I paid 40 bucks and played about 50 hours. Don't need a huge time sink. I could have gone further for Expeditions 12+ but multiplayer was quite toxic and solo was too repetitive so I was happy to end then and there

I meant the campaign mode. You can push through that pretty quickly. After content isn't bad, but like you said, it's pretty hit or miss with the random teams you can get paired with. Add on that people can kick you if your damage isn't high enough (even though you cleared), or the servers aren't steady, it leads to a pretty lukewarm experience. I had a couple where you die once and people just leave in the middle of a run. They play it like fortnite.
Pretty sure there are some studios that aren't particularly thrilled with the way this was announced, but here ya go: GoW won't be out until next year and HFW could make it this holiday, but it might slip to next year as well.
While we still don't have specific release dates for either the next installments of the venerated God of War or Horizon series, the wait may not be for much longer according to Playstation Studio head, Hermen Hulst.
In a recent interview with Playstation Blog, Hulst noted that "PlayStation Studios have more than 25 titles in development. Almost half of these are new IP. The other half, they’re titles that are set in franchises that PlayStation fans already know and love." For example, Bend Studio, the team behind aggressively mediocre Days Gone, is working on a new IP based on the open world systems originally built for that game, Hulst said.
Hulst also had updates about two of Playstation's most anticipated games, Horizon: Forbidden West and the next God of War. Both are currently in development but "they’re frankly affected by access to performance capture and talent," Hulst lamented. Regardless, he feels that Horizon should still be ready to ship this holiday season though there is a solid chance it might end up being pushed back to 2022. For God of War, just assume you won't be getting your Spartan rage on until at least the start of the new year.
The story of Ghost of Tsushima may not be done, as a new standalone expansion is heavily rumored for Ghost of Tsushima, supposedly titled Ghost of Ikishima. If real, it will seemingly be single-player DLC, a presumed complement to the free co-op Legends mode that was released after the game's launch in 2020. In theory, this could help pad out a somewhat quiet second half of the year for PlayStation.
That line of reasoning makes sense given that Ghost of Tsushima was a commercial hit, selling over 6.5 million copies as of March 2021. Although it was likely expected to perform quite well, it's hard to imagine Sucker Punch Productions or Sony could have anticipated the game's explosion onto the gaming scene both critically and financially, which allowed the developer the studio to support the game with a multiplayer update and more. With a motion picture now in development, as well, Ghost of Tsushima is quickly becoming one of Sony's most valuable IP. If recent rumors ring true, it seems Sucker Punch is going to try to keep the series fresh in players' minds.
According to gaming insider Shpeshal_Nick (via Wccftech), a standalone expansion in the vein of Spider-Man: Miles Morales or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is releasing for Ghost of Tsushima later this year. Nothing else is known about the presumably titled Ghost of Ikishima, but its timing could make sense for PlayStation Studios as Sucker Punch continues to develop a full sequel. Ghost of Tsushima is also rumored for PC, so it's possible that it could launch alongside this expansion, which is expected to release on PS4 and PS5.
Ikishima, also known as Iki Island, is yet another Japanese island in the Tsushima Strait, and it was also impacted by the Mongol invasion seen in the first game. It's possible this expansion could see protagonist Jin going to Ikishima to defeat straggler invaders, or perhaps there's something else that brings him there. Either way, it seems likely that such an expansion would take place in a new location close to Tsushima Island. Given it's a separate landmass, it's unlikely players would be revisiting the old map (unless part of the story takes place there).
People have different opinions, it's weird, I know OTOH I have no idea what game won what, like it matters. Some games have their fancy GOTY editions and are bad for me anyway, or are buggy - e.g. Fallout 3 GOTY. I know it because I played it
On July 03 2021 00:12 ZerOCoolSC2 wrote: Ghost of Tsushima is one of those games where it's literally amazing. Like the new Ratchet and Clank, this game went above and beyond.
Sure, but at the same time I saw and decided to never touch it, nothing for me. Even if it would have won every possible trophy I wouldn't play it anyway. And not winning them trophies doesn't change the quality of the game either
PS5 Owners can now get 6 months of Apple TV+ at no charge. I'm thinking about it just for Foundation.Source
Apple is clearly determined to pump up TV+ viewership now that more Ted Lasso is on the way, including on other platforms. PlayStation 5 owners now get six months of free Apple TV+ service, whether they're newcomers or existing subscribers (except for Apple One members). That's quite the lengthy trial — even Apple device buyers only receive three months before they have to start paying.
There are a few catches. You'll have to redeem the offer through the PS5, and you'll have to remember to cancel if you don't want to pay $5 per month once the half-year is over. The promo is only available until July 22nd, 2022 in qualifying countries (including most of the Americas, Europe and Asia). And of course, this won't help much if you're a PS4 owner who won't (or can't) upgrade.
The offer might be well-timed all the same. This will clearly help if you're eager to watch Ted Lasso's second season, but it will also make sure you can watch The Morning Show season two, Foundation and other big Apple TV+ premieres at no charge. Apple's hope, of course, is that you'll be so enamored with that content that you'll be ready to pay when that trial finally runs out.
I feel like it was always going to be a summer release. I highly doubt they've gotten as much done as they'd like, considering Endwalker is coming in November and Yoshida is probably spending most of his time making sure they end FF14 right before moving on to a new storyline.
If you are part of the beta (I hear it isn't too difficult to get into it), then here is a list of the recommended SSDs to use with a list of prices, heatsinks, and all other data. I'm personally not going to get an expansion until I'm more secure financially and have the games to actually warrant it. SSD RECOMMENDED LIST
Component shortages could keep limiting production on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch all the way through the end of next year, according to a new report.
Toshiba creates power-regulating chips which are used in everything from cars to consumer electronics, and a director of the company confirmed to Bloomberg that "the supply of chips will remain very tight until at least September next year," with "some customers not being fully served until 2023."
The Toshiba director, Takeshi Kamebuchi, pointed to both material shortages and high demand outpacing the company's production capabilities as reasons for the lack of chips. While companies such as Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo may be able to switch between manufacturer sources for other console components, the safety certifications required for power-regulating chips make that a more difficult proposition.
"We consider which customer faces the most severe situation, such as the risk of the whole production line halting or the business getting obliterated without the supply of chips," Kamebuchi said. "Game console makers are among the customers making the strongest demands and I’m sincerely sorry for their frustration as none of them have a 100% satisfaction."
Toshiba's planning to expand its production of power semiconductors in the coming years, which will hopefully cut down on the possibility of similar bottlenecks appearing in the following years. It sounds like the component shortage - and its impact on video game console production - may take a while to get back to normal.
I found it rather easy to order a PS5 last month. Just subscribe to one of these Twitter/Telegram drop news feeds and be quick to click links and order when they message. Here in Belgium we had webshops with PS5 drops 3-4 times / week.
It's all gonna be shitty bundles though, I got disk version + 2nd controller + demon souls + ratchet + spiderman for 800 euros which is a bit steep, would've bought the 2nd controller and at least 1 of those games anyway but definitely not all 3. Oh well.

That's a damn good deal and those games are all pretty amazing. I only got Destruction All-Stars + Spider-Man +2nd Controller for 650USD. (Or was it 700USD?)
That would be the game to end a lot of the kiddie games that have come out trying to emulate them. I hope they do succeed and it comes back as glorious as the old games.
Took them long enough. Can't wait for the next batch of games from this studio.
Sony has acquired Bluepoint Games, the Austin-based studio best known for remaking Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. Financial terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed. Rumors that Sony was buying Bluepoint started to spread online right around the time the company acquired Returnal developer Housemarque in late June. Sony didn’t say whether Bluepoint will continue to focus its efforts on remastering past titles or if it will work on an entirely new IP now that it’s part of the PlayStation Studios family.
You can probably try in-store at walmart, target, or best buy as well (or whatever electronic stores you have). But yeah, online is probably the easier route.
Subscribe to a Twitter feed or Telegram channel in your country that notifies whenever a new batch is up for sale. I got mine within a week of signing up to one of these services. It's gonna be hard to find a deal that isn't a bundle though, so prepare to spend 600+ and get some games that you may not be interested in.
This release can't come soon enough. My PS5 is so ready for this game.
I'm playing the Stranger of Paradise trial now and it's pretty decent. Mad I can't jump but that's whatever. Buttons seem clunky as in they are all over the place and if you switch jobs you need to remember what each button does for each job. I've gotten smoked quick trying to remember how to cast a spell and then be a dualist and then switch to a swordmaster.
The State of Play Sony did today (10 minutes ago) was bad. Probably the worst thing I've seen them put out in a long time. Every game was garbage besides FNAF and I'm not even interested in that.
I'm the only one a lot of people know who actually managed to get one. One of my friends got his 3-4 months after me . The systems are out there. Just have to find them.
In Belgium it was quite easy to get one, just subscribe to a twitter feed / telegram feed / ... that announces drops for your country and be ready to act quick. Randomly calling up or visiting your store won't work.

My sister was given 3 chances to get one from playstation direct. Never did. I almost disowned her.
If you're in the US and looking for a PS5, gamestop will be open from 5pm-9pm with limited stock. Check out the website to see if there is a participating store nearby. There's one nearby me if anyone can't get to one and would like me to try and stake one for them.
Sony Group Corp.’s PlayStation division is planning a new subscription service to compete with rival Microsoft Corp.’s popular Xbox Game Pass, according to people familiar with Sony’s plans and documents reviewed by Bloomberg.
The service, code-named Spartacus, will allow PlayStation owners to pay a monthly fee for access to a catalog of modern and classic games, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak to the press about the plans. The offering will likely be available on the smash hit PlayStation 4, which has sold more than 116 million units, and its elusive successor, the PlayStation 5, which launched more than a year ago but is still difficult to buy due to supply chain issues.
When it launches, expected in the spring, the service will merge Sony’s two existing subscription plans, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. Currently, PlayStation Plus is required for most online multiplayer games and offers free monthly titles, while PlayStation Now allows users to stream or download older games. Documents reviewed by Bloomberg suggest that Sony plans to retain the PlayStation Plus branding but phase out PlayStation Now.
Details on Spartacus may still not be finalized, but documentation reviewed by Bloomberg outlines a service with three tiers. The first would include existing PlayStation Plus benefits. The second would offer a large catalog of PlayStation 4 and, eventually, PlayStation 5 games. The third tier would add extended demos, game streaming and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games. A representative for PlayStation didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Although the PlayStation has outsold the Xbox in recent years, Sony has lagged behind Microsoft on the subscription front. With this new structure, Sony will look to compete with an Xbox feature that has been popular and lucrative.
Microsoft’s Game Pass, which is often dubbed the Netflix of video games, has more than 18 million subscribers. It allows users to pay $10 to $15 a month for unlimited access to several hundred games. Xbox has built its overall strategy around the service in recent years, putting all of its internally published games on Game Pass as soon as they’re released. Xbox has also made big acquisitions, such as Bethesda Softworks last year for $7.5 billion, with the goal of bolstering the Game Pass library.
Sony is also putting resources into expanding its efforts in cloud gaming, the people familiar with the plans said. Microsoft’s xCloud game streaming service became widely available earlier this year.
Super cool man. I will probably get the blue one. Do you have DayZ? Been wanting to get it but don't want to play it by myself really lol.
I've looked at it I don't know how many times and just haven't pulled the trigger on it sadly.
Well.... I may have to gift it to you for Xmas so we can play together...??
Just got back from my vacation. Wasn't ignoring you (somehow my passwords aren't the same and I wasn't going through the trouble of changing it). But thank you for the offer! If I didn't have a backlog of gaming along with other things, I'd def take you up on that. This coming year for gaming is going to be insane and I'm already behind.

looks veryy nice indeed. Looks like a dark souls like ofc and I was looking out for a detail that I personally dislike in Dark Souls which is invulnerability on dodges/rolls, which I think make a hole in gameplay quality. And this game here looks like it does have a roll/dodge but it isn't invulnerable : I see the boss in the video make a large sweep attack and the player does a backwards roll but not enough to escape the sweep so he does get hit. I like that. Oh it comes out on PC as well that's great 0_0
It's from the same team that made The Soulsborne series of punishing games, so I expect it to deliver on that front at the very least. A bit more gameplay and I think I'll be sold. It still felt...empty. Either it's another Souls game where the plot/story is light and told through cutscenes, or it has proper RPG elements with NPCs that interact with you and tell you the story (much more than in any of the souls games. Bloodborne was a bit better at telling us what the hell was going on).
If the price is right and the games come out looking like Horizon, this might be added to my library. Needs to work with PC as well though, I have a project I want to test on it.
PlayStation has changed its plans for the in-development Twisted Metal reboot, sources have told VGC.
Last year VGC reported that a new car combat instalment – which by release, would be the series’ first in over a decade – had started early development at the Liverpool, UK-based Destruction All-Stars developer Lucid games.
However, VGC has been told that the project has since ceased development at Lucid and, according to sources, Sony has decided to instead move the series revival to one of its first-party studios in Europe.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Lucid Games did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
It’s understood Sony still intends to bring back the car combat series in time to coincide with an upcoming TV series in 2023, and early work has begun at the unnamed first-party studio.
Sources did not provide an explanation for the change of developer. However, one person suggested that the poor reception to Lucid’s PS5 title Destruction All-Stars could have contributed to the decision.
Destruction All-Stars wasn't bad. Just bad timing for a car BR. Which, if they bring back TM, would be very ironic. Lucid Games will get more work. Not worried about them.
Such a long trailer and I still have no clue what kind of game it will be lmao. Will it be open world or a linear story? Several elements which look good at first glance but will have to see how good they actually are. Like the room of requirements or your own little fantastic beasts animal farm xd It's a game I'll 100% pick up but I have modest expectations.
On March 18 2022 06:37 ZerOCoolSC2 wrote: Skyrim meets Howarts? Or some more elaborate Fable maybe? It's definitely really interesting.
I hope for some Fable elements. I want to have the choice to be a good or a bad wizard. And hopefully you can influence the story quite a bit. A linear story would not make any sense, imo.
Aside from them not mentioning anything about the linearity of the game, everything looked surprisingly good. Especially the environment was almost perfect, imo.
for me PS5 its maybe later, it feels a little bit redundant to own 2 big piece of hardware maybe? but maybe later idk i definitely like to get PS controllers for PC!
Man, this console generation is going to be so freaking weird given COVID and how long its taking to wean studios off of PS4 hardware, including 1st party titles.
I think this year and half of next will be the transition periods. I'm waiting for the 1st party studios but also third party AAA games to start coming out. The 2nd half of this year is showing that there is going to be some great stuff in the pipeline for PS5 owners.

Will do. My sister has gotten a few of them already (emails, not PS5s). I'll ask her to forward me that as well. I looked the other day online and Walmart had some in stock (resellers most likely). I'll do some hunting and I'll post what I find here if it gives sufficient time for people.
Walmart, Target, Gamestop, and Playstation Direct seem to be the best places to check. One Tracker
Sony Group Corp. is preparing to introduce a new video game subscription service for the PlayStation as early as next week, said people familiar with the plans.
The service, which has been in development under the codename Spartacus, is Sony’s answer to Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox Game Pass, a sort of Netflix for video games that has amassed more than 25 million subscribers. Sony’s will debut with a splashy lineup of hit games from recent years, said the people, who requested anonymity because the plans are private.
Sony’s new service will combine two of its current offerings, PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus. Customers will be able to choose from multiple tiers offering catalogs of modern games and classics from older PlayStation eras.
Documents obtained by Bloomberg last year showed the most expensive tier will also give players access to extended demos and the ability to stream games over the internet. A spokesperson for Sony didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
PlayStation consoles have outsold Xboxes in recent years, but Sony lags behind Microsoft’s efforts in the streaming market. Xbox Game Pass offers hundreds of games for $10 a month. One of Game Pass’s biggest selling points is that subscribers get access to many titles on the same day they go on sale in stores for $60 or $70 each. That includes this year’s much-anticipated Microsoft sci-fi game Starfield.
Sony will likely be at a disadvantage there. The new service is not expected to feature its biggest titles on the day they come out. The upcoming God of War Ragnarök, for example, is unlikely to be offered on the streaming platform right away, said one of the people familiar with the plan.

I got one from Amazon on Wednesday. I subscribed to several PS5 Radars on Twitter and tried to get one since January. It really boggles my mind that it is still so hard to get one.
So my PS5 is now in my city. Doubt it will move on Sunday, but will probably move to the hub closest to my house on Monday. Which I then plan to call them up and ask if I can just come pick it up. The entire thing weights 16 pounds according to UPS! Also ordered some Sony headset as Sony is voiding all shipping fees, even express delivery. As long as it us ordered through Playstation.

I tried to get one when it released for 2 month but couldn't. Then I thought they just don't want my money and moved on Maybe I'll try again with PS6
When I set my sights on a PS5 I subscribed to a Twitter feed and a Telegram thread specifically for PS5 drops in Belgium. Got one within a week. These feeds/threads must exist for each country. I imagine the PS5 radar iXphobos mentions is something similar. All you gotta do is put notifications on, make sure you already have an account at bol.com or amazon or whichever the equivalent in your country is, and wait.
So my PS5 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow but I don't know what it is waiting on, my PlayStation headset has shipped as well and should be here tomorrow as well. No idea if one is waiting for the other to be delivered all at once....
Depends on where in the city it is and when it got to the warehouse. The drivers usually only take that day's deliveries if it gets there by a certain time and is put in the correct place for shipping. If it isn't, then it's moved to the side for the next day. You could get them together or you could get 2 separate deliveries. Perfectly normal.
Dunno what games you ordered with the PS5 but I can recommend Horizon: Forbidden West. Get the first game first if you haven't played it yet though. Two amazing games, 10/10.
I gotta recommend Ratchet and Clank or Astro's Playroom right off the bat to learn just how amazing the controller is. After that, def get Horizon, Miles Morales, Cyberpunk (if that's your thing), and then just wait for more lol.
I haven't tried it yet. I hear a lot of it is really straightforward though. Isn't it just backing up everything to the cloud and then redownloading it to your new system? Let us know how it goes.
Did you get a bundle or a plain system? Disc or digital?
Well the PS4/PS5 transfer did not work even though both were on. Had to redownload Ghost of Tsushima, FF7 Remake, and The Division 2. Thankfully my Div 2 stuff is online so it was saved. No idea about ff7 Remake; though I fear the worst, Ghost of Tsushima is also at zero. Those are two long ass games to restart.
Is there a way to silence the PS5 voice. I can read i don't need her announcing everything.

What voice? I have never had a voice come through my system. Maybe it's a notification setting? That's a new one to me (also haven't started the console after the latest update).
If you backed up your save files to the cloud, you should be able to get those back once the games are restarted. You'd have to reinstall the games regardless though. Maybe someone else had more information for you here than I do.

Yeah man. That has literally never happened to me and I have my PS5 hooked up to a surround sound system lol. Guess those early adopter bundles had that setting off my default.
