Anyone play? I just downloaded it yesterday and it's SOOO MUCH FUN TO PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS
the drifting makes it a competitive game. everytime u drift u build up a bar that lets u give u a boost (kind of like powersliding in mario kart). anyway im awful at drifting, its so hard
In most korean games like this (GunZ, Pangya, Soldier front) you need to pay to get premium items. They are usually better, but not THAT better. at least in skill based games.
well int his version u have " my cash " , and " my lucci " u get lucci points in races. it's like 50,000 lucci for a new cart . and u get like 60 points for top 3 in a race oO
Kartrider rocks my IGN: Basje i played alot of races so my rank is decent but it rly takes forever to get a high rank >.< the problem is with a lower rank you cant race most fun tracks >.< but a great game nevertheless
I get a run-time error about 30 seconds into the game. No specific event triggers it, it just comes after a certain time. Anyone have this? It does the same thing on all my computers.
Ok, WhatPulse causes it to error for some reason. I did the tutorial, but now I can't join any games. It says "Network setup in progress. Please try to log in later."

yeah you have to turn it off because game guard detects it as potential danger.

I restarted my computer and the message went away. Every couple of hours it comes back, though, and I have to restart again. Not a big deal.
EDIT: The game is cool by the way. I've been playing with my brother.

It's because Game Guard (the built-in anti-hack program) is detecting certain programs that it classifies as potentially harmful. Try to close all the programs you have running, even at the task bar. Go to Task Manager and close processes, etc.

why am i getting runtime errors? i never got it last night. it's been like this since the new patch. anyone else having the same problem or someone knows how to fix it?
Okey this game seems very cool, but my keyboard is old and sucks and wont allow me to press right arrow key + forward and shift key at the same time to drift.
Is there anyway to reconfigure the keys or use a gamepad?
WASD also works to control your kart, and doesn't have the same problems, at least on my keyboard, Pistasj.
Some noob tips: In team speed games on zoomtown, drift every turn until you have 2 nitro boosts and your team nitro turns your boosts blue. Then just drive normally (don't drift). Take every corner as tightly as you can manage, even if you have to lay off the gas pedal. Save your nitro boosts for the straightaway on the last lap. You will pass nearly everyone that passed you using their nitro boosts earlier in the race (this is because drifting and taking turns wide slows you down considerably on zoomtown). In rookie-level team-speed games where no one really knows what they're doings, this should allow you to finish between first place and third place. Since team speed game winners are decided by accumulated score, it's important to finish the race, even if you have to give up first place to do it (wiping out because you drifted more than you needed to is a bad thing).
Team-item games... don't drift at all, it's not useful. -Don't use suicide bombs unless you believe you can take out 2 of your opponent's members with you-- it's not very useful to use the suicide bomb while an opponent is in the lead (it makes their lead bigger). If you simply HAVE to get rid of a suicide bomb, and there's no good targets for it, drive on the edge of the track, so your teammates can dodge the explosion when they see you shining bright blue. The ideal time to use it is when you're in second place behind one of your teammates (who's in the lead). Just activate the suicide bomb and back up into the crowd of opponents behind you. You'll buy your leader loads of time. -UFOs with lightning bolts through them take the UFO off of the leader. If one of your teammates is in the lead, try to hold onto these and watch the top right of your screen for when the leader gets UFO'd... you'll save him some hassle. If an opponent is in the lead, just use these immediately. -UFOs will attack anyone that's in the lead. Do not for any reason use one if your team is leading. Save it for when your opponents take the lead. -Magnets should be used on straight-aways and on the furthest person you can target for maximum benefit. If you feel like targetting someone close by, take care to avoid targetting a teammate, it'll screw you both over. -Angel immunity is very handy, but try to avoid overlapping them. Having two halos above your head doesn't make your team any more immune than they already were. -Get used to the distance the water balloons travel, you can get pretty good at "aiming" them so they'll only hit opponents. If you want to avoid water balloons, it's easiest to do so if you hug the inside of the track. -If you're in the lead, be clever with your cloud and banana peel placement. Save up shields whenever possible, and listen for when to use them. Missiles and flies make very distinct sounds and if you time your shields well, you can remain immune to a lot of stuff.

few things i still have questions
halo = makes ur team immune to all items for a few secs? shield = counters what? everything? rockets / flies / waterballoons?

Halo makes your team immune to everything but the dancing devils thing and UFOs. Shield does the same thing, but it's only personal use (halo is whole team).
The dancing devil item inverts steering controls for everyone on the opposing team. So A = left, D = right becomes A = right, D = left. It's not a really big deal. For me it's only a problem when its effects turn off durring a tight turn.
To drift boost: as you're coming out of a drift, release and then press up, and you'll boost. To boost at the beginning, press up as the timer expires.
I'm at 1 finger, once I have a green hand I'll let you know if anything changes... (I'm betting you get to undergo the L3 license quests, and probably get new maps and shop items to buy and play).

Thx for the WASD tip, Tadzio00. I've been owning speed races at Zoomtown-Freeway. I got a level up and was wondering why I did not get any new stuff unlocked. I then discovered it's only closed beta which will last until may 30. I can't wait to see this game released because it's so much fun and I want new cars and acessories for my character.

My IGN is BaboLogix only Green 5 finger >__< I'm pretty crap at this game but it's soooo fun :D
Found some old friends of mine sitting on vent playing this, apperently they had been up all night playing. Iv barely had time to check it out myself, but seems really fun so far.
The new map owns me hard. Fastest I've seen someone do it: 1:58. Fastest I've done it: 2:06. My first lap drifts are fine, but half the time there's a non-drifter that'll 180' me with a fishtail. Fine, I'll recover and on the 2nd and 3rd laps the non-drifter won't be near me. Then my 2nd lap I catch up ground. And when my 3rd lap is good, I'm a happy camper, but often I feel like I finally have a feel for the turns and end up taking one too tight-- and the new kart, as much as I like it's smooth drift, really likes to stick to any walls you touch. Oh well, it's still my favorite map. I love it since its the only map available where it's strategically beneficial to drift every turn.
Release and press up as you're coming out of the drift. Having a tight drift is something you do by feel, and I can't describe it... and half the time I drift too wide anyway so even if I could describe it, I wouldn't listen to me if I were you ^^
I've found that you have more time than when I first heard about it than I thought, so maybe not trying to hit it so fast would be good. You have a small amount of time from when the skidmarks go away that you can get the boost.
for drifting the most important thing for me is starting early and then pulling out hard. If you do it right, you'll end up looking at the wall during a big turn and getting 1-3 drift boost during it (for me at least), because of the hard pull out you will lose the drift, but the boost will put you back in to the turn it great position.
are buying one of those karts at the shop worth it? just wondering lol i see people with fancy karts XP i think i have enough.. not sure =P only raced like six 12-ish times or so though
ive been racing with a crazy guy who keeps getting 1:58 and 1:59's and i NEVER finished that track EVER! I just dont know how, when i race with friends i clock at 2:12 or 2:13's
I just raced with a guy that was doing 1:57 1:58s and claimed to be able to get 1:55... o.o
Following his example I got a personal best of 2:02... managed to finish every race, but I wasn't on his team so got minimal points. At least with him in the race there was no danger of messing up completely and getting -17 from a perfect.

seems like it takes forever to level up in this game
Maybe its because you're becoming more korean just by playing games koreans play.
Levelling takes ages, as the max number of rating points for a team game perfect is +28, not sure about single. You need 875 to lose your first yellow finger iirc.
there isn't anything included in the beta besides beginer stuff. so you'll have to wait for the full release for the better karts and tracks and ranks. that being said it's not THAT much of a grind i find figgure maybe 4 mins a race by about 15 points a race (assuming you win most), it racks up quick. or maybe i play this too much....
It's not as easy as it looks. I'm retiring a lot since I started trying to learn it. Should improve my performance if I figure it out though. Posting it for the more coordinated among ya so you can go pro! ;p
Well, what I need to be doing is (say on a right turn):
dw+shift aw d+shift aw d+shift aw w
What I have been doing while practicing (again on a right turn):
dw+shift aw dw+shift aw
and at this point I end up in a wall because I boost on the second dw+ shift. Letting go of the forward button as quickly as you need to pull this off is what I'm not getting. It's simple, I know what my problem is and how to correct it, but my fingers won't listen to me. the bastards!
Its a shame that you can't play a race in slow motion to get it down... it's all or nothing. Full speed learning curve.
i can get the double boost to work most of the time which is all you really need on the desert map, but when you need triple or continous boost (like zoomtown) i end up trying too hard and tapping the wall.
plus with these karts i am not convinced that alot of the higher level techniques are needed except to shave the final second or two off your time, ie i can get a 2:01 with normal drifting on pyrimad and 1:59 (ok only one time ;_;) with double boost.

I am wondering about something: when you start the race, how do you get that 'boost'? Whenever I start I slowly go up to a speed, while all the other racers get this yellow flame from the 'thrusters' in the back and start really quickly? Also, it might be my imagination, but I can swear in those videos the people are using nitro (or some sort of yellow boost thing) on the straight runs before they're actual nitro meter is full?
Finally, which is better, the Korean or Chinese version? Because the English version..well, it's not that great >.<....do you need some sort of identification for Korean or Chinese version?

the americn version is just a beta, the korean and chinese versions are pretty much identical and have everything. i am assuming that once the full international verison goes live it will have all the traccks and karts.
as for how to get the boost at the start simply don't press up untill the word start appears, if you time it right you get a boost.
Also you can get a boost anytime you do a drift by simply pressing up again 1 second or less after the end of a drift.
that video will show you the fingering to do for the basic drift.
Well, actually, if you noticed during patching, I saw when it was updating the maps directory, there were names like 'Pirate', etc., so they probably will come as a big update once the closed beta begins :D
Considering I might have just lost around 40 liquibet places to KR, I might as well make my first post now...I've followed Kart Rider for a while now, but aside from a very brief stint in PopKart (I didn't even learn how to drift) I've been playing KR since closed beta started, and I can stay competitive with the best racers in american right now. My two biggest tips off the top of my head are:
1) Abuse the fact that you can restart a time trial for no cost as long as you haven't finished all the laps, and that there's no time limit. In short, use time trial to practice pretty much everything, from track strats to advanced techniques.
2) Learn how to perfect drift (aka best drift, or most efficient drift) the majority of the turns on your track(s) of choice. It's pretty much required for the more advanced techniques, like double boost and continuous boost, to be effective. Also, you'll see a dramatic decrease in your average times.
Also, I've got a hunch that Lurker is rekrul in disguise.

How do you judge what a perfect drift is? I prefer the burst kart, but I can't figure out when I should be starting/ending my drifts to maximize efficiency.

If you look at the tracks made by your kart as you drift, you will notice that the tracks will converge through the drift until they touch, then diverge in the opposite direction. From the point at which the tracks touch onwards, the drift will not increase your no2 bar. You want to avoid this happening if you can, as it slows you down without giving you no2. So, the "perfect drift" involves starting a drift around a turn at the right time and at the right angle, so that your kart remains close to the wall but your tracks do not touch during the drift. You'll have to determine where to start drifting and what angle to approach for each turn in a given track. Here's three videos that might help - the first two explain the concept of perfect drifting, while the last shows someone running Freeway with no advanced techniques except perfect drifts (though I'm still uncertain whether her boost placement during the straight is the fastest way).
Strategies for playing with laggers? Anyone have ideas?
I just got out of a game where one of the better players was a lagger, so for all 3 laps on Pyramid Mesa it looked like he was both behind me and in front of me simultaneously. After the 5th race, and the 4th time he put me into a wall, I decided I couldn't stand to play with him anymore and left. Usually, laggers aren't that great (or they're really great) so it's bad the first lap, but the second and third laps are clear sailing. But occasionally there'll be some bad lag from someone about the same speed I am, and it's just awful.
And your character reacts to what's on the screen, so the lagger can be a kart's length in front of you, but if his lag causes him to teleport into you, you do a 180-- or if he's behind you on your screen, but really closer, he'll have a sudden speed boost on a turn and knock you into a wall... as if he'd used a "magnet," except he doesn't get screwed over along with you.
Anywho... anyone have any strategies for playing vs laggers? Are there any driving techniques that seem to work well vs them and keep you competitive? I've noticed that little bumps don't screw me so bad if I'm performing a perfect drift rather than a tight corner, but it's not 100%. If I ever figure out how to double boost consistantly, I'll report on the effectiveness of that.

that guy's time was pretty bad, zoom isnt so much a drift map, i drift only 2 corners on it and get about 2:28~ secs however mesa is pretty much an all drift map.
Drift is good on Zoomtown and Pyramid Mesa, and it's decent to drift on Arc Enemies if you don't mess up. The rest of the maps, I lose position that I don't tend to regain when I drift. I still drift to help team n2o, but I have a feeling that until I can fill my n2o bar much faster, drifting will hurt me on a lot of the beta maps.
I played it in korea when I was there, and tried the beta when it was available, and the american version's cars are so much worse that it was a lot more boring. So I'm just gonna skip until the american version gets some more content <_<
Quick everyone, PM me your email so I can refer-a-friend you. Gets us both an entry in their sweepstakes, and the top prize is an Alienware laptop (second prize is an iPod Touch)!
Nexon's timing is kinda rough, I'm in the middle of a grad school level design portfolio which I have to finish before I head off to WCG. And PROTL (my guild) just had to lower their application times to 2:27.99 for Freeway and 1:59.99 for Mesa in anticipation of the open beta, the latter of which was a total beeyatch to get since I hadn't played the foreign versions for the past two months.
BTW, this was my initial reaction to the announcement 5 days ago:
followed shortly thereafter by:
Funny though how the announcement came out a day or two after Kennigit asked me when it was coming back.
Penguin Town Ice Cave Arc Enemies Freeway Oasis Bizaare Bazaar (new) Woodland Zig Zag (new and way harder than Pyramid Mesa ever was... I perform a 360 on it at least twice every race)
New characters = Orion (footballhead) Brill (nerd) Maridia (mushroom?) Mos (construction worker) Chunk (fatty, and I LOVE him!)
Missing in action = Pyramid Mesa (I loved you so, come back!) Solid Kart (my favorite kart is nowhere to be found T T) Suicide bomb item (only affects you if you like item mode... this was the most strategic item from the last beta... why'd they get rid of it? dunno but I suspect noobs complained it was useless 'cause you blew yourself up)
Thoughts so far = Zig Zag is so hard, and the other maps are cakewalks... give me a medium difficulty map to build my skills up for zig zag, pls! The loss of suicide bomb makes item mode even more mindless than it was before. I'm sad about its removal. Getting close to your enemies and setting one of these things off was one of my favorite things about item mode last beta.
can anyone give some tips about drifiting the right way? and by that i mean drifting perfectly through a corner to boosting. i just cant seem to get it done properly.
GTR: start earlier than you think you should, and if you hit the inside wall you started too early. Hitting the outer wall because you started drifting too late doesn't force improvement the way hitting the inner wall does... at least in my opinion.
I use wasd keys and right shift and right ctrl to play.....
Edit: Here's some video tutorials. Probably better to see it done right than to get tips from someone like me that's still learning.
Hmm, I've learned how to drift 'safely' on most maps (including Zig Zag), just gotta perfect the boost (tbh, I don't think I've got one boost out of a drift yet).
In order to do the quad or quintuple drifts on one turn, is it necessary to have an awesome car? (and by awesome car, I mean the kind thats only available in korean/chinese versions)
Just finished chapter 1 of the scenario mode. Man! The last scenario is so simple compared to the second to last. + Show Spoiler +
last race is on zig zag vs chunk and brill... cake walk compared to beating a bunch of chinese laggers 10 times
I had to play sooo many single speed races on zig zag to beat that (you have to win 10 races, minimum 4 racers and team mode wins didn't count). Zig zag was the only track people were bad enough on so I could win semi consistently-- assuming people didn't ram me into walls. Best time was 3:18.
I learned people don't like racing on zig zag. Many uncounted souls joined my rooms only to leave as soon as they saw the map. And one dude decided to spend a whole race putting me into walls because I wouldn't change the map to something he didn't have to drift on....
Since it's still beta... does that mean we are going to lose our characters once Full-Game comes?
Also to the post above, I've had the luck of being in games with zig-zag and BT lovers. Most of those maps I've either had 6-8 riders, most would just stay to replay it over and over. I believe I was playing in the rookie channel, not sure though.
Fuck yeah. I'm downloading it now and should be under the rider Venrae. Pyramid Messa was fun last time but I could never break 2:02 or some time around there.
The last couple of day I've been spending alot of time in time attack working on double boost. I can maybe do it half the time on some "good corners". But when I fail I usually drift too much probably because the kart is'nt straighted out properly when I do shift----> after the drift.
I'ts basically hard as hell for me. Anyone here mastered it, or can you tell me how long it usually takes?

I couldn't get the double boost at all.. I don't really get it, I always end up doing a single boost and drifting after.
Not that I'm complaining, it's free and fun, but will they ever add more tracks/cars? So teasing looking at the youtube kartrider videos when the international version only has one decent map.
They will not add everything at once. They will probably add stuff little by little to increase the money the earn from the players. That way players will buy all items and not just the gosu items you see in korean version.

Which makes me wonder whether or not to just sign up for PopKart? I've seen tutorials for registration for popcart, but they seem to be outdated or something because there are more boxes than most guides show. Can anyone who knows that language help me out with the registration there, because right now it feels like I'm just spending most of my time on a account that will probably get reset once NAKR full comes out.

agreed, but I can't find a guide on how to sign up
Been searching for an updated one of those for 2 days, either I suck at it or it was pretty well hidden. I'm thinking it was the prev rather than the latter, anyways thanks again. There's just really no way to express, in words, the perpetual orgasm you have just caused of me without sounding completely creepy.
They updated english kartrider today. We have two new karts. Solid C1 and Marathon C1. I bought the Marathon. Not so very much improvement on it, just seems to have a little higher top speed.
i don't think there is a difference worth more then say .1 seconds between the c1s. just get whatever you want.
there must be somthing i am missing on zig zag with people posting sub 3:10 races while the lowest i can get is 3:12. There must be multiple boosts i am missing by not cut drifting or double drifting.

Here's a 2:59 with a beta kart. Looks like there's only 1 spot where he links his drifts. The rest is perfect drifts and not hitting any walls. Would be hard to duplicate this time with other racers around, imo.
My best time is 3:12 too. Best I've seen someone finish (in a live game) is 3:06.

That's not a beta kart, that's an upgraded kart and the video is either from KKR (korean kartrider) or popkart (chinese), you can tell the difference because there's no caution/hazard pattern between the karts exhaust and number. He's still very good though and it's well worth a study.
My IGN is PROTLx1esu, though I'm relatively a noob when it comes to the rest of my guild (my penance for not devoting myself to Popkart between the closed beta and the open beta like most of the remaining members did).
I'm running a tournament this Saturday for those who are interested in playing Kart Rider competitively, check it out here and send in a time to see if you can qualify: First American Kart Rider Tournament

oh, you're in PROTL? :O I played with some of those guys before. I was relatively noob compared to those guys back then so I can't imagine how shitty I am compared to them now.
My ign is BlueDiz. I'll be playing at random times.
To anybody who's playing korean kart rider (or chinese, I guess), I have some questions!
1) Do you need to use paykarts in order to do those high level techniques? (continuous drift, double boost, etc.) 2) Why the heck do they let rainbow stars into rookie games ;_; i haven't placed in like a month 3) Can i use an american credit card to charge nexon cash?
Yeah, though requalifying on Mesa (in anticipation of the open beta Benson lowered the times and made us all requalify) was a beeyatch, as I didn't play popkart during the break. Sub 2 min is not fun if you're just using basic drifts.

1) No, but they're much easier to do with paykarts (probably because of the better control) and give you much more of a boost bar benefit (because of the increased speed).
2) Try the level below rookie; that cuts off at either green glove or blue glove.
3) Yes you can (at least for the chinese version), but if it's VISA you need a "Verified by VISA" account. If your card provider doesn't support it, you're like me, S.O.L.
my kart rider is retarded. =/ it lags WAY too much, and the graphics are kinda messed up.
it was fun when i played it though. before the whole lag thing. they really need a capture the flag mode though like the korean version. CTF on KR is so much fun. XD
On October 17 2007 06:40 blagoonga123 wrote: Unfortunately I just recently got the green glove so now I'm forced to play with all the crazy pros and what not. T_T oh well.
Pros? In the American version? There's almost no such thing, i played with those protl guys and they're pretty crappy too, the only good players are the ones that pop in from the korean/chinese kart rider.
So yeah, there's only 3 1/2 hours left to register for my NAKR tournament, and there's only 14 spots filled, so if you sign up now, you're pretty much guaranteed in no matter what your time is.
Just ss the time when you're viewing the track in time attack. I just want to be consistent.
EDIT: But since it's so close to the deadline, I'll put your name in for you, and you can post the picture and your IGN (I think it's still Tadzio, right?) later.
sorry for rebumping old thread, but I found this one and didn't want to make my own.
I saw this game advertised the other day watching Gom Intel-Classic and I think it looks pretty cool. I've tried the download link on the first page and tried finding it on my own but looks like it may not be available to North American anymore. Can anyone confirm this? And if not where can I get it, I want to play
You can play popkart (chinese) or kkr (korean). I play chinese one (because I failed to dl the korean one for some reason) but it lags. Lag is not really an issue in kr because you can treat it as a single player time attack while other players teleport somewhat.
