if it truly is, nintendo as a company is way dumber then I thought. Look at their quarterlies the past few years, this company literally lives off the 3DS.
At the very minimum the Switch needs a price cut to be competitive with the 3DS. People aren't going to drop $300 with the intention of it being just a handheld like the 3DS.
I'm amazed, that people fail to see how future proof the Switch actually is. Nintendo can simply pump out better tablets in the future like they did in the past with the Game Boy (color, advanced, etc) and the DS/3DS. The Nvidia Tegra is the fastest tablet chip out there and its follow-up generations will set the standard for years to come.

Switch games don't all need to be $60.

On the eshop, 1-2-Switch is $50, Bomberman is $50, Shovel Knight is $10, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is $25, Fast RMX is $20, Snipperclips is $20, and I am Setsuna is $40.
In the coming soon section, Blaster Master is listed at $10.

There are many 3DS games that costs $60 tho
and the Switch isnt a handheld either, nintendo never marketed as one, they are more in the 2in1 combo than exclusively handheld or console
people assumed it was a handheld, thats not nintendos problem honestly.

there was talk of a "review conspiracy" that Zelda didn't deserve 10/10. Generally, when reviewers are influenced in various ways by publishers/manufacturers they will take a 5/10 game and review it as a 7/10. Or maybe call a 3/10 and call it a 6/10. Generally speaking, huge review sites with reputations to protect do not utterly bullshit about a 10/10 game. If large scale review sites do bullshit its about stuff that is much harder to prove.
I got a Switch and Zelda. If there were no framerate drops its a 10/10 game. Its an absolute masterpiece. Including the framerate drops in my experience i'd say its a 9/10 game. The style of combat and puzzles makes the lower frame rate tolerable, but clearly noticeable. Hopefully, they can patch the framerate drops out of the game.
I think this thing will eventually replace my 3DS.

$60 price point for Switch games is also relevant. 3DS found a niche because $100-$200 console + $40 games is a budget range far enough below other platforms while still being above F2P/indie mobile games. Asking people to drop 1.5x the money for its successor and games is a tough sell, especially when it's an audience that already doesn't really care that much about graphics.
the price of the Switch is going nowhere but down as component costs decline. eventually the Switch in 2020 will be the same price as the 3DS was in 2011.
Basically, it'll be a 3DS that you can dock up to ur TV if you want the big screen experience.

While better performance is objectively better
10/10 games dont mean perfection, it means the pros of the games FAR outweight the cons that it may have, so for reviewers the frame drops arent a problem enough to drop down points out of it BUT thats on a reviewer basis, so for some performance might worth more than to others
GTA5 got millions of 10s and the performance on the ps3 and xb360 is beyond crap, like literally unplayable for me
|
to the people screaming "bullshit" on the 10/10 reviews i will say this... review sites should at least mention the framerate drops in their reviews. if they do not then they are at minimum BS-ing sycophants.
|
I think it's pretty absurd to give games that drop to 20fps a 10/10 rating personally.
|
ive seen many reviews mentioning frame rate issues tho, i did try the game and saw the performance but i never find something to replicate it so i guess there must be something on the inside that we cant see
some areas were perfect but on the way back it was dropping, its not that terrible because is not that frequent imo but the fact that the same area can be perfect or with frame rates tells me that theres something extr,a hopefully can be fixed

Reviewers are doing it right. 10/10 for the game, 6.8/10 for the Switch.
That's one example (IGN).
You don't dock points from a game because it has to run on a shitty system. Someone above already referenced GTA V and its performance on PS3 etc. You don't bash GTA V for that, you bash the PS3.
|
You should dock games for having poor performance. How well a game runs is intrinsically related to your experience while playing it. Do people really have issues with giving a game 9/10 instead of 10/10 because they were negatively affected by technical problems?

That is not the case. Further, its Nintendo's own hardware running Nintendo's game.
if some guys want to call it a 10/10 .. meh.. i just think its 9/10.

Performance is part of the game.

I don't think people realise how bad the frame rate drop can be. At times it drops to close to 15FPS for several seconds. One of the earlier boss battle that I had is literally sub 20FPS at best and dip down to lower. And that goes not only for boss battles, it's for small skeleton encounters as well. And it is close to 100% occurring rate if you use arrow in high grassy area, good luck engaging combat.
It's not unplayable but an incredibly frustrating experience especially on dock mode.
They should have not given a 10/10 score because a game needs to be designed around the platform, especially for exclusive. They should have scored differently on different platform if it was a multi platform and they do perform differently and thus should have different score.

Zelda in dock mode sucks balls. in handheld mode i've not feel it go substantially under 20 FPS. i've heard in dock mode its a memory bandwidth issue. i don't think that's fixable with a patch.

That would be a massive blow to all future switch games and I seriously hope there will still be some big titles for the switch and not full party games.

i think what will happen is they'll make games that just remain in 720p and don't go through the 720p to 900p scaling process.. that way doc mode and handheld mode will feel identical.
|
I don't understand, can't they just give you an option to render Zelda in 720p in docked mode also? It's not ideal, but at least it would give a decent alternative to the user.
|
you know how these console manufacturers are man.. they want total control. its a totally different consumer culture versus PC games.
