some people who are just bored with everything prefer to point the finger rather than look at themselves. this is boring.. that is boring.. blah blah blah...
It's still only one game and it's not like it's going to disappear. It's not like I don't have other games to play until the Switch is cheaper and has more games.

Weirdly enough more in docked more than handheld mode. We'll see if they can do something about that or if the bump in resolution is just what it is.
its more like an echo chamber than a criminal conspiracy. and both do happen. the 2nd one is just really hard to prove. To say it never goes on just because its a "conspiracy" is off base.
If you consider that it's someone's job and they pretty much have to commit 50 hours minimum to it, it makes sense that they love the game. Someone who hated Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess probably would raise an eyebrow at the prospect of being forced to play a game they're not sure they'll like for 50 hours, so they wouldn't take on that review. It's not a conspiracy, it's just the nature of the job means that those reviews are going to gravitate toward people who are more likely to rate the games highly, even if that means their level of enjoyment might not be representative of everyone else.
Doesn't mean the reviews are going to be wrong, just that you have to contextualize them. And if this many people are saying the game is amazing, it's probably pretty good.

Considering that Daggerfall is more than 20 years old and looks like shit, yet it has better "open world" gameplay than most games today, I find this claim to be dubious.
Open world gameplay is more reliant on the internal consistency of actors within the world than on graphical fidelity. Having people from two towns act like they've never met each other when it took a minute of ingame time for me to travel between them is more immersion-breaking than shitty graphics.

Except for Blizzard games, i wait until a game has been out 2 years before i think about trying it. You are much better able to assess the games long term fun potential this way.
A game like "Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor" is the perfect example of a highly reviewed game that fails the "wait until its been out 2 years test". Of course, you can find certain reviewers you can trust. Destiny nailed it with how boring the combat in the game is/was. However, I don't always have a reviewer I can trust giving the kind of in depth review Destiny provided. This is why I lean on the 2 year rule.
The prices of highly reviewed but truly crap games usually falls fast these days. This also helps assess the game. Unsurprisingly, Shadow of Mordor's price has fallen fast and hard. Because the Zelda is a proprietary game played in proprietary hardware an ultrafast price decrease might not happen even if the gae is truly crap.

I honestly don't expect long-term fun potential out of singleplayer games anyway. If a game is going to keep me playing for 300+ hours, it's going to be a multiplayer game. I don't expect a singleplayer game to actually have enough substance to keep me engaged for that long, and I'd rather a singleplayer game give me a really good 20-30 hours than attempt to make an experience engaging for the player at the 300-hour mark. It's just not feasible for a singleplayer game to compete with multiplayer games for long-term engagement and it's better for them to just focus on the part of the gaming experience they're better at delivering.
As far as multiplayer games go, basically every developer has embraced the idea of patches as a way to deliver new content rather than being a way to fix bugs, so at-release reviews aren't representative of the long-term experience anyway. Developers change the experience so much over time through patching. It's not uncommon to have a multiplayer game you enjoy for years stop being enjoyable because the developer chose to take the game in a direction that you don't like as much.
Super Mario 3 and Mario 64 provided long term fun. if Zelda is on that level i'll buy a Switch. Time will tell. If the guys working at my #1 customer who are raving about how amazing the Switch is are still talking that way in 6 months i'll hear them. If the Switch becomes an afterthought their silence speaks just as loudly.
it happens on TL with guys yapping about how great some new RTS game is. 10 months later less than 100 people are playing the game at any time making competitive multiplayer impossible.

Those games appear once a generation if at all and are largely a fortunate accident. If I only ever played games of that timeless quality, I would never buy a console because I could never justify buying a console for one game.
And Nintendo has managed to pull it off in several previous generations. The NES has SM1, SM3, Tecmo Bowl. The SNES had NHL '94, Super Mario World. N64 had Mario 64 and Golden Eye. If they pull it off again i'm in with both feet.

I believed the hype of Last of Us, untill i played i thought it had a meh story, meh gameplay and the whole "feelings" for that little girl who i dont even remember her name was so overhyped, might have been good for gaming standard, but every other art is years ahead in the "feelings" department
Woah, don't you dare knock down Last of Us. That game was fantastic.
Don't mind Faruko, we confirmed long ago that the only thing that moves him is episodes of Friends. Last of Us is a great game(with flaws).
Somehow managed to snag a Neon Switch on bestbuy.ca a week ago. Got myself BotW as well, and am overwhelmed by the console and the game so far. RIP my wallet though, but man it feels good to get it the day of

I know, right? Last system I got on launch was the Wii... for TP.
At the gamestop I got mine at there was a line about a half dozen long for people looking to buy extra stock. Don't know how many got one though.
Gonna wait at least until Mario and Xenoblades 2 are out.
Buying a console for a single game (that also exists on the predecessor i might add) is just not worth it to me. I actually intended to buy the Switch, instead i got myself a new RC (weee!) which will amuse me until Xenoblade 2 is out. :D
