The absence of the full National Dex has no relevance to your use case to begin with. You aren't going to catch up on the full 800+ Pokemon National Dex with only Sword/Shield anyway. Even if the full Dex existed in Gen 8, you'd very likely to have to play all 3 3DS generations to fully complete it. At a minimum you would have to buy multiple 3DS titles and play them fully to completion.
For the small number of people who maintain a living Dex, the absence of the National Dex in Gen 8 really sucks. For anyone else just following the outrage and saying "well I could have made a living Dex and now I can't", you're not being honest with yourself. If you weren't already maintaining one up to this point, the likelihood that you were going to get the motivation to buy a whole other system, 3+ games, and play a minimum of 3 last-generation games to get the Pokemon to transfer forward is next to zero.
If your use case is that you haven't played a Pokemon game since gen 1/2, and are getting back into the series with gen 8, this change for all intents and purposes does not affect you in any way.

I dunno, I didn't start one a living dex until we got a release date for SM. I never heard/thought about the concept before then either.

The national dex thing only affects people who have 3DS Pokemon and want to carry them forward into ShSw. You're pretty much unaffected

That still only required 2 games and didn't span a different console generation. 3 games AND a separate system is a way higher barrier to entry.
Plus, I could be mis-remembering,but you had already played X/Y and OR/AS so you didn't even have to beat the prior 2 games, you just had to consolidate your collections from those 2 games and trade to fill in the gaps. Completely different from starting from scratch.

I want to say gen2 I only really catch what I intend to use, outside of Let's Go because of XP/candy mechanics.

? I'm not hating. I clearly misunderstood what was possible to achieve in the newer generations. Back in Gen 1 and Gen 2, the pairs of main games (blue/red, gold/silver) were all that were needed to complete the Pokedex, which I enjoyed doing. I had hoped it was possible with sword/shield too.
I appreciate the responses though.

So will this new feature be compatible with mega evolution? Boosters are already extremely overpowered in Pokémon games, so I don't like all these "boost that Pokémon even more" features. I guess it doesn't matter much anyways since these games tend to target children in terms of difficulty, but it still bugs me.
Imo putting Pokémon on the overworld is a good choice, it enlivens the overworld a bit. I think those games would profit from ways to incorporate Pokémon into normal lives of npcs (f.e. have farmers who fleece the new sheep pokémon) and give them small cycles in landscapes, but especially the latter is probably too much to ask for.
I'm not a fan of forced multiplayer features in PvE games, it lowers their replay-value significantly a year later or two.

As of right now, Megas aren't in the game, same with Z moves.

I have a collection of decent Pokémon that I want to play in future games. If each new game is going to have a limited dex of maybe 100 new Pokémon only, I’m going to seriously consider whether I want to keep subscribing to the bank and playing each new generation. If they’re going to have a more robust regional dex with 100 new Pokémon and a rotating cast of 300-400 old ones, then it’s business as usual with me. As long as they don’t overuse gen 1 Pokémon. I’m pretty tired of those.

went ahead and bought mario maker 2. im not big on mario/platformers and i never tried the first one, so this was a risky buy. but honestly, im having a lot of fun trying out the top-rated maps. i love how theres the retro mario levels along with the newer, modern ones. really adds spice to the game long term, and I always think long term.
im not sure about it being a full 60 bucks. maybe closer to 45? but i dont have buyers remorse as of yet.

Hey guys I’ve just started Mario maker 2, never played the first one. I’m having fun trying my hand at level design. I made a pretty tricky precision level I’d love if someone took a look and tried it out
Name: Precision Palace
Code: 95T-C46-CRG
SMB
Castle theme
Super expert
Precision platforming, must collect all coins to win

I got myself Super Neptunia RPG since I'm a big fan of RPG games and the Neptunia series.
That being said, I started playing it today and already found myself ranting a fair amount on discord so I figured i might as well share my thoughts so far on here to help other people about wether or not to get this game. Keep in mind I only played for 3 hours so these are my innitial thoughts about what is essentially the tutorial and what little things annoy me so far. I can't really talk about how good or bad the game is outside of these.
First of all, the game seems to drop in FPS at various times for me while playing in TV/docked mode, so no power saving mode or anything like that. This is a game that is somewhat similar to FF9. It's a 2D game with artwork in the background to give the illusion that you're running through a city or through the world etc. Something similar (or at least it looks that way to me, correct me if I'm wrong) could run on the PS1 in the year 2000 so it has no business going down to like (what looks like) 15 FPS or worse while you're running through a town with 5 NPCs total or while the battle-end screens shows up. Pretty disappointed by that. I could imagine this being just a Switch thing and the PS4 not having these issues due to the added power but again, this thing has no business having issues like this imo. Like, I can absolutely get behind Breath of the Wild having FPS issues in some areas but come on, this?
Secondly, getting through the menu is painstakingly slow. The menu shows up in the top of the screen once you press the + button like: | Home | Items | Equipment | Formation | Ability | Status | Quests | Settings | so you go through it by tapping left or right. Holding left or right makes you go from one to the other super slowly like... "tik... come on ... tik ... come on, i need two more to the right ..." etc. Mashing the right or left makes it sliiiighly faster i think but it still takes forever. And the most infuriating thing is that if you hold to the right it picks up speed eventually, but only once you're at abilites or Status which is like you already got through 80% of the menu at that time in snails pace and only the last 2 left so the game is taunting you. I don't think you can press to the left to get from "Home" to "Settings" either. Little thing but annoying.
Thirdly, like I mentioned it's a 2D game with art in the background to give the illusion that you're walking through a city etc, right? It's really hard to figure out which ways you can walk through or not. There are a lot of places that look like you should be able to walk through because there's a path but it turns out that's just the background. And then there's some places that you can walk through but you don't realize you can because you tried to 5 times and didn't manage to find the exact space that lets you pick the direction so you figure it's locked for now only to realize the pathing is reeeeeeally narrow and only allows for you to pick the upper road in a really specific spot. Seriously, I just tested this and this is from the first town:
![[image loading]](https://i.imgur.com/FNyhaDk.jpg)
The black line I scribbled over with red and green is basicly where the character walks if we assume she walks in a straight line which she doesn't to the right since she either goes downwards or upwards but just to get an idea of space in the screenshot. The green scribbling represents the space you can press up to take the upper path while the red space on the left is ahead of that "crossing" and the red part to the right of the "crossing", which takes up like 95% of the actual crossing, at least visually speaking is already past the ingame crossing so you can't move up or down, just left or right at that point. Like wtf. I stood there trying to get up because I needed to get to the guild. At least make the visuals represent that ingame crossing in that case. Just to be clear, the screenshot above is already too far to the right to take the path upwards. I would have to move a couple pixels to the left and then press up+right to get to the upper part of the city. Both boundaries are in respect to the right side since I picked the right side to align to. So I'd have some clearance to the left more or less the width of the green line. So the left line is not supposed to represent the left boundary in respect to the leftmost of the character.
And lastly, holy shit the jump is annoying. You can dash to the side after jumping (basicly like smash bros air dodge to the side) to get some additional distance but noone told me that so I'm sitting there, doing the tutorial, in the volcano area and I legit die 10 times in a row trying to get from one platform to the next to get some pseudo frame-perfect jump without dashing to the right because I didn't know that's a thing. Following the mainquest mind you, not some chase for a hidden chest in a difficult area or something like that. And oh my god the jump triggers so late after you press jump. I can get behind there being a starting animation before you actually get off the ground instead of getting up instantly the moment you press the jump button but it takes sooooo long. While trying to make those hard jumps without midair-dash i fell down some more times because I pressed the jump button while well on the ground but then just fell off the platform running forward because the jump didn't happen soon enough. I'm sure you get used to it but it's annoying right now.
Oh never mind, the real last thing that i just remembered while taking the screenshot above and getting it over to my PC: There are short loading screens once you're in the game but when you click "load" game the game just doesn't do anything for like 2 seconds. Almost like it freezes or as if you never pressed a button. No confirmation, no loading screen, and then it starts... that's pretty weird. Just giving a quick 2second progress bar for that load-time would make it less annoying even though they might feel that takes away from the game? But then again, wondering if your game crashed isn't exactly a reaction you want to have either.
TL;DR: I still like the series. The voice-acting (so far) is as good as any other game of the series that I tried. The symbol attacks have always taken some attempts for me to get used to in other games so maybe I get used to the weird jump timing as well but the execution of this game just feels sloppy for me. It's charming, funny and looks good. I love FF9 and it's genuinly my favorite FF in the entire series with all it's charm so I liked seeing that this one essentially has the same leveling system as you equip items that have skills (like the spell cure) and abilities (like +HP, again like FF9 you only have a limited amount of points you can spend on abilities so you have to pick) but it's just straight up annoying to play at times.

I don't see the reasoning behind this. Makes no sense.
In a video today, Nintendo introduced Nintendo Switch Lite, a device designed specifically to play Nintendo Switch games in handheld mode. The Nintendo Switch Lite system launches Sept. 20 at a suggested retail price of $199.99 and will be available in three different colors: yellow, gray and turquoise. A carrying case and screen protector set for Nintendo Switch Lite will also be available. Adding Nintendo Switch Lite to the lineup gives gamers more color and price point options,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “Now consumers can choose the system that best suits how they like to play their favorite Nintendo Switch games.” The flagship Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017 and offers three different play modes: playing in TV mode by placing the system into a Nintendo Switch dock, playing cooperatively or competitively in tabletop mode by sharing Joy-Con controllers and playing in handheld mode. The system comes with either Gray Joy-Con controllers or Neon Red and Neon Blue Joy-Con controllers. Nintendo Switch Lite has integrated controls and is smaller than the flagship version of Nintendo Switch. It has no kickstand and, as a dedicated handheld gaming device, does not support video output to a TV. Therefore, it does not come with a dock or HDMI cable. For a full list of the differences between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite, visit https://www.nintendo.com/switch/compare. The new device can play all games in the robust Nintendo Switch library that support handheld mode*, although some games will have restrictions. Compatible game modes will be listed on the back of game packaging and in Nintendo eShop.

What's not to understand? I own my Switch since launch and I have NEVER used it docked, always just handheld mode. Now you can buy a switch that offers only handheld mode for 100$ less. Instant buy if my current switch ever dies.

It makes a lot of sense. I also like it that they made the handheld version smaller. The normal switch is a bit too large for me to use it much for handheld.

Not sure how I feel about a lower-cost Switch that literally doesn't Switch... It's just a Nintendo DS that plays Switch games... I won't be getting one, but it's probably very appealing to those who exclusively play handheld modes.

Also dont forget the cheaper price for the console. $100 difference is quite a lot for some people

Very true, although I'm not sure how many people still want a Switch who don't own one yet and have been holding out for a cheaper model. Could be a significant number, I guess.
