Thats not even remotely comparable to the 3D feature they got rid for the 2DS That would be strange, I can't imagine that having circuitry to allow you to output to another screen being very expensive. I'm all for selling it without the dock to get the price lower, but it should be a possible future upgrade. Possibly the logic is that in docked mode the Switch is like 2.5x more powerful, so they could put a much much lower specced APU to get those 300 some GFLOPS. And I guess it is unnecessary creating games for a DS and Switch if the consoles are getting more similar, so consolidating could make sense. Actually I take it back, I think it's a fine idea. Have one console, consolidate all your game libraries, and be able to offer an entrance price of $150 USD.

I was more interested in a handheld more than a console. So far, however, I've played my Switch in docked mode more than 80% of the time. It's quite big for a handheld and feels more fragile than a 2DS/3DS so I could see why they need a sturdier, cheaper version for kids. Not to mention probably smaller. I'm an adult and I feel it's a bit big for a handheld.

Let them play the way they have been for cheaper and leave them the option of buying to console if they so desire later. I don't think it'd let them cut costs enough. Docked and undocked have different performance, they'd be seriously over designing for handheld mode, where realistically less than half the people would be getting the dock in the future. The detachable/integrated joycon debate is an interesting one, even if it's a mobile unit, the ability to plop it down at a coffee shop, give your friend one controller, and playing together is a nice one. Removing that option to create a more durable and cheaper console is a tough trade. Really, they just need to upgrade the DS hardware to be able to play Switch games, whatever branding they choose is up to them at that point.

Upgrading the DS hardware would be in effect making the Switch alteration I outlined, outside of possibly making it DS/3DS backwards compatible too.

Fair enough, we're mostly in agreement then I'm more interested in the pro version, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled on the specs, I will very likely sell mine the moment I know what's coming, before the price drops in peoples' anticipation for the Pro. Maybe a 1080p screen, hmm. And wonder what the price will be, ideally double the performance, smaller bezels, and a glass screen at an MSRP of $380-$400.

For the Canadians on TL, you're eligible for one year of Switch membership if you have Amazon Prime (or just Twitch Prime). I activated mine two days ago, the FAQ answers everything quite well.

It's simply too bulky, and you pretty much have to have a case for it, unlike the new 3ds. So a Switch 'Light' version with portability in mind would make me a happy camper indeed. Don't even care if it costs the same, honestly.

Been meaning to play through BotW again now that it's content complete, so I'll be keeping a close eye on this to see how the VR works out before dropping $40 on the "cheap" Labo VR pack.

Let us know how it goes if you end up getting it. The google cardboard style just seems too gimmicky, like a 5 minute gag and then the fun is over. I'm still waiting to splurge 2k on a polished VR headset. I go to the biggest and most advanced VR arcade in Canada every couple months with a few pals, and experience is so great... So whenever I see VR butchered with cardboard cutouts, I get sad.

Not awesome: 15 minutes in, the game froze, and all data was lost. Okay.
