Im willing to bet nobody is gonna cry on stream this year. people cried because it was last evo of a game that revived fgc, if there was no sfv everyone woulda just cried about elena being busted not to mention, no1 cried when infil destroyed sfiv for the whole year either, just ban infiltration! Well, I also realize that it being the last year for sfIV was a huge factor for the emotions but I feel like you guys are missing my point. I was just wondering if it was me liking 4 over 5 that makes this feel boring in comparison or if other people that actually like 5 are feeling the same way. The fact that nobody is even disputing that last year was way more hype and are just stating more reasons as to why that is the case in a kind of apologetic fashion more than answers my question though.

Oh man Infil talking up returning to streaming on the world stage

I enjoyed the first two days more. The game is pretty fun to watch, just unfortunate that got the matchups we got today. I really don't like the way Mika plays. The game is going to get better once more new characters get released and people figure out how the new characters play.

i like 5 over 4 anyday, hell, after vanilla released i stopped playing sf until ae 2012 because it was such a pile of shit compared to 3s, so im just holding my biased opinion back. And what answer do you expect? most of the hype is because it was a last evo of 8 years old game, theres nothing else and no, if sfiv was released that year everyone would just bitch about elena and call sleep fighter dead series.

surprised there is no video at the end of evo from capcom

Why are you treating this like a big deal? Hype is not a linear thing that increases with time.

Last year brought more emotion out of people because it had more Ups and also more Downs. It was a rollercoaster of emotion. We had a bunch of Elena lame fest so everyone was really invested to see her taken down. And those games dragged to the end of the round when both players starts playing the time which caused a lot of tension.
Last year also had a huge variety of characters played not only for the mains, but the top players brought out fan favorite pocket characters as well. I expect to start seeing this on SFV in a year or two.

the one thing i can take away from sf5 is the story of infiltration being on top of Japan's most wanted list.

Why are you treating this like a big deal? Hype is not a linear thing that increases with time. Huh? Because it is a big deal?? Why are you watching premiere sports events if not for the suspension, the emotions and so forth? Why are way more people watching soccer world cup compared to champions league final although the level of play is lower? The "hype" is the most important thing in a premiere sports event and is a key factor for the viewing experience. Example: watching an underdog come back from 0-2 to take it 3-2 is a way more enjoyable viewing experience than watching a favorite stomp someone 3-0. So less hype = less enjoyable viewing experience. And if the viewing experience isnt a big deal with spectating events I dont know what else is.

He's saying why does every year have to trump every previous year. Using your own sports example, not every single Super Bowl is as exciting or as tense or as storylined as the others. But that doesn't mean they're trash either. Something can be enjoyable without also being the most enjoyable in history.
It's completely fine to like EVO 2015 more than EVO 2016, for any number of reasons. That doesn't mean everyone feels the same, nor does it mean we need to deconstruct it and find out why one was "worse".

bad: - We should get more of the crowd in the camera shot. I miss the salt shaker signs, the emotion from the crowd's faces - I miss counterpick battles - Felt like the characters that are easiest to play and are most RPS did the best - Brackets on paper, no online updates. 2016, guys. Commentators often didn't know what was going on either.
good: - lots of matches were close, we saw many final rounds - the moment with joe and his dad was at the same level as last year's hype, I teared up a little - 5k players went really smoothly, I think there were practically no delays. Great organisation So, I don't think any of of the criticism is caused by the game itself, it's mostly the novelty of the game that's causing it.

The Super Bowl usually turns out to be the worst game of the entire playoffs.
Anyway, I was super impressed by ESPNs job. Mike and Gooteks and co. were really professional as well.

more characters + post capcom cup balance patch hopefully increases diversity.
btw why are fgc (and smash) prize pools so low?
|
Fiddler's Green42661 Posts
smash is easy since nintendo dont add to prize pools like other games.
SFV has capcom support, but the big one is capcom cup where they put mot of it.
