They don't even have an IGL (I know n0thing is supposed to do that for them, but common...).

Where they diverge is in strategy and leadership. James and adreN likely outmatch n0thing strategically, but C9 is almost surely the more cohesive unit given that they generally seem to be friends with each other. Liquid has problems with leadership, given that adreN is not a strong personality. Hiko may shore his weaknesses up, and will certainly have to contain s1mple's propensity to undermine authority within the teams he's a part of.

Its a huge risk that can pay off but if they wanted to go this route they should've tried to get SicK instead.

I really doubt N0thing can do that when he barely could remember strat called by Sean the same round. Granted, it's hard to find any IGL at all in NA, but still, this team looks like a very pug-heavy style team to me, with no real strategic phylosophy. Also, regarding Liquid, to me their problem is primarily, again, their IGL. Maybe Adren will improve now that he does not need to AWP, and I really hope so, but he still does not feel like a reliable leader to me and I have no confidence in James (well I might be biased on this because of thorin's stories about him).

James was a mainstay in the NA scene for over a decade. Hes never been known to be an amazing talent but hes always been the IGL and coach of up and coming players so I have no doubt of his ability to coach a team with some young talent. My only concern is his lack of firsthand csgo knowledge as he comes from a primarily 1.6 background. Thorin's stories are just that - stories. Thorin will say anything to make himself look great and everyone else look absolutely terrible. Not saying they aren't true but they are definitely embellished. Also, while coaches are becoming the norm in csgo right now, I dont think they have anywhere near the effect towards success that a solid 5 man roster does. James is not the problem with liquid, in fact, liquids results have improved somewhat since he joined. The main problem has always been adren's complete inability to awp on lan and his shit mid-round calling. S1mple can frag as well as fugly and adren combined, so hopefully adren can become more ex6tenz-ish. I dont think liquid will become a top 5 team, but I do think they will be able to do some damage if they can work together to improve for the start of the year.

Oh yea I definitely know that Thorin does embellish his stories and that it is not as black-and-white as he describes it, but it still left with me with some impression that there was some truth to it. Regardless, the main problem is indeed not really the coach. Although, to come back to C9, maybe their plan is to have the 6th man (Coach) doing the job of the IGL. Some leagues seem to let coaches be in the game as spectators (bound to a team afaik?). They still don't have one and I wonder who they are going to pick for that.

It honestly doesn't matter at this point. Cloud 9 is not built to win. Their roster is based on popularity. n0thing should have been cut in place of hiko a long time ago. This stewie2k pickup says to me that cloud 9 isn't thinking about winning in 2016, just trying to gain exposure and build the public persona of a younger player they got for cheap as they head into the e-league. NA scene died when IBP got banned. There is literally no competitive spirit left in the scene. Everyone is just trying to get paid or build their twitter/stream following. Ill give liquid credit for picking up s1mple but that is definitely more hiko's doing than the liquid org. Hiko is probably one of the only NA players left who understands international cs competition and what it takes to win. Skadoodle used to know but he threw it away for the c9 money. I would too I guess if I knew how close I came to getting perma banned.

Thorin mainly does not like James because he tried to argue with Thorin (in front of Nazgul) because he did not like how Thorin portrayed his career in his "Who is" video about him. + Show Spoiler + The story is here, the whole thing is absolutely hilarious to be honest and it is not that long (7min from 2h20m46 in).
